Do you buy items in bulk?

When you shop do you buy from the bulk bins in your grocery (organic or not). I noticed some stores don't yet have much of a bulk selection but organic grocers do. And I calculated you can save quite a bit by buying bulk.

The only items you can't get are of course produce and meats as these aren't dry goods...

My local grocer even has pasta and popcorn in bulk as well as all kinds of granola in addition to nuts, legumes, grains (many types from amaranth to couscous and so on). Also on offer are bulk sweets.

Long ago, I thought bulk bins were totally unsanitary since I imagined people just sticking their hands in but plastic gloves are provided to handle pasta (cannot be spooned out obviously).

I am trying to get them to add bulk oils such as olive or sesame and maybe honey too though I wonder how they would do a dispenser for that? Health code may also be a factor....

I have never gotten ill from them though.

    Got bulk?

but also, I grew up with a dad who's a hoarder... it left me with an aversion to having a "lot" of anything... it's rare for me to have more than a week's worth of food in my apartment, except some frozen meals, a few cans of soup, and some rice kept around for emergencies (eg: getting snowed inside my apartment in a blizzard)
Ok I understand but buying bulk can also be the way I do it which is to buy small quantities of bulk items at a time. I understand the concept of bulk shopping like going to Costco and buying 100 rolls of TP or a 50 litre jar of condom ments...

Yeah but think of the savings....no wait you could get a bigger apartment buy in bulk and still save over the long run.

I usually buy the smallest size possible even though that's wasteful.

When it comes to stocking up my apartment, I'm always at Sam's of Costco, buying in bulking is easier, cheaper, the items are in higher abundance.

New season rice - several 10kg bags after trying a bag, since these goodies soon disappear off the shelf when others discover how nice they are.

We bough 10 boxes of tissues today, can't be too well stocked in winter. My nephew-in-law bought 50 packs of 18 toilet rolls because they were on sale. I asked my neice if he had the runs.

There is a bulk store a few blocks from where I live, but the grocery store near me has pre-packaged 'bulk' food, but it's not very fresh.

However, if things that I usually buy go on sale, I stock up on them.

I buy bulk all the time, usually SF or NSA candy. My local store has all kinds of things in bulk including spices, honey and pastas.
