Do sunglasses really protect your eyes from harm?

    .
Human eye has evolved for thousands or millions of years.
My questions is, does it matter if you wear sunglasses or not ?

I don't wear sunglasses because it is annoying and inconvenient.
It seems people wear it just for fashion or to prevent other people from looking at their eyes.

I normally look abit longer at the people who wear sunglasses because they look suspicious

People evolved to live 30 to 40 odd years. The only reason we live so long is because we're smart enough to protect and preserve our bodies. if we didnt wear shoes our feet would be fucked. if we didnt use sunscreen wed die of skin cancer. and so on.

Yeah, but the po-po can tell what you are by the unidentified discharge weeping through your pants anyway, so what's the point?

My professor said that UV rays can't penetrate most plastics/glass. So I'm guessing those who wear glasses (for vision purposes) have more protection than those that don't, but those who wear sunglasses get a greater amount of protection. Just make sure that when you buy sunglasses, make sure you have the ones with the thick temples (the sides). The problem with the thin temples, is that you're protecting your eyes when you're facing the sun, but when you turn and now the sun is hitting the side of your face, the rays are can also hit the side of your eyes.

    Thin temples:

Have no idea Telstra as they do not give you the composition of the lens , which is what you need to know as in UV Factor ect .

Though the comments about the seller are all really good and i like the style .

Eyes have their own protection against reasonable UV levels. But if you are from nordic areas and go to equatorial areas you will need special protection. Otherwise for your area shouldn't need anything. Exception is at beach or in the snow. Most sunglasses don't wrap around enough so leakage is a concern. Just avoid the brightest time of day. Better for your skin too.

Most sunglasses are very expensive so likely not worth it.

Sun glass hut and all those mall kiosks are scams. At least go to an Optometrist store or better yet ask an Opthomologist.

Sunglasses definitely protect your eyes, but there's a catch: you can't believe the claims on the labels. When I was at OSU we took a bunch of different pair that all claimed to block 100% of UVA, and tested them at the physics lab. In reality they ranged from 98% clear down to around 50%. The claims for UVB protection were closer to accurate.

Human eyes evolved for savanna, where our ancestors spent more time in shade than in bright sunlight. If you're going to be out in bright sun more than half an hour, you're beyond the built-in protection. But even then, having shades will help keep your eyes stronger longer.

It probably wouldn't hurt to wear a pair when inline, either, seeing how much time many of us spend at the 'puter.

In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

yes, i always wear sunglasses or a snap-back

my mom had this weird "pimple" looking thing on her eye one day! she was scared as hell, so she went to the doctors and apparently you can get sunburnt on your eye, she had to use these special drops that were like aloe for your eyes. Eventually it went down, and it hasnt come back. But the doctor said the cause was not wearing sunglasses(in florida, but it can happen to anyone in the sun alot) and that you should always wear them

There are sunglasses that block the UVA and UVB without being dark.

If you want to view the world in a beautiful way, get some polarized lenses that block UVA and UVB -- they kill glare, which actually lets you see more of the color and vibrancy.

I have always wondered as well. I don't really own any pair. And since I am short sighted its a pain to wear them together. But I do find in times especially when I go shooting on a sunny day, I own them.
