There's no reason to celebrate in this thread:

1. A gay man spends his whole life in the closet because of the homophobic Republicans around him raised him to be.
2. He marries a woman that he later has to divorce when he realizes he can't live a lie anymore.
3. He was ONLY elected as a state representative for the GOP ticket with the assumption that he's straight. Mike Fleck would have never been elected as a Republican state representative in rural Pennsylvania had he been an open homosexual.
4. He still believes in the Republican party with a platform that publicly states that he is a second-class citizen incapable of marrying a man or be protected equally under the law. So he can have a farce marriage with a woman, but can only fuck men behind closed doors.

Yeah except for the fact that Republicans paying down the deficit is ridiculous, no one is trying to rescind the 2nd Amendment, affirmative action has been illegal in nearly all of academia and the workplace for 10 years, we are working to reduce dependency on foreign oil, many Democrats are Christian and abortion is stare decisis and isn't going to change.

So basically out of that whole laundry list the only possible reason to vote Republican is being against abortion but it's also casting your vote for something that is never going to happen.

One local former Rep (Tom Campbell) was elected in a fairly Liberal District in Silicon Valley...his position on gay marriage...

Yes, progressive work on these issues over time has had absolutely no impact whatsoever. By far more important has been closetcases in the GOP coming out, right? The same political interests that did things like funnelled massive out of state money to do things like Prop 8 in California-- all funded by the religious fundraising arms of the political right.
