    Ron Paulís Appalling World View

After reading this, I'm glad that Ron Paul got nowhere in the elections that he has been part of. I never really knew anything about him till this.

    Ron Paulís Appalling World View
    November 27, 2012

Exclusive: There was buzz on the Internet after libertarian Ron Paul delivered what was billed as his final address in Congress. But his near-hour-long speech sounded more like the ramblings of a right-wing crank than the coherent thoughts of the principled idealist that his fans rave about, writes Robert Parry.

    By Robert Parry

Rep. Ron Paul, an icon to the libertarian Right and to some on the anti-war Left, gave a farewell address to Congress that expressed his neo-Confederate interpretation of the Constitution and his anti-historical view of the supposedly good old days of laissez-faire capitalism.

In a near-hour-long rambling speechon Nov. 14, Paul also revealed himself to be an opponent of ďpure democracyĒ because government by the people and for the people tends to infringe on the ďlibertyĒ of businessmen who, in Paulís ideal world, should be allowed to do pretty much whatever they want to the less privileged.

Ron Paul is a horse's ass. He, like so many Tea Party nuts and conservatives, fails to realize that the earth does not stand still.

It is his hypocrisy as a so called 'Libertarian' that is so 'appauling'.

He is just another self absorbed stoner who thought that Ayn Rand was a smart person and a good writer.

Glad I listened to my instincts through the 10,000 times I was told by 'real conservatives' that Ron Paul was the real deal and I should give him more of a chance.

Just another in the long list of old foggies that should retire.

As I have said before, he does have some good ideas like making non-violent drug charges a misdemeanor and curtailing foreign aid.

The losers on November 6, thankfully:

    the war against women

the war on the poor (which is ongoing - we "won" THIS battle, though, for now)

antidisestablishmentarianism (the belief that church and state should be MERGED..."establishmentarianism" plus a double negative)

biggest money = biggest free speech (and those without money = NO free speech)

    boundless, seething hatred toward LGBT

complete state-sanctioned fascism (another ongoing war)

    crackpot science (legitimate rape, etc.)

    state-mandated rape (vaginal probes, etc.)

EXTREME election fraud, voter disenfranchisement, and theft of the popular will (ALMOST ALWAYS, nowadays, by Republicans) **Is there any truth to what I heard about the Ohio machines not flipping like they were "supposed" to, possibly because of Anonymous blocking the software which was intended to steal Ohio for the Republicans?**`

Flawed as it may be, there is now at least SOME accountability in health insurance, unlike in the past when an insurance company could tell somebody "Oh, we're SORRY to see you're diagnosed with cancer. We are DROPPING your ass. You're on your own!" Republicans were itching to repeal things like that.

Social Security being thrown into the banksters' gambling casino, with absolutely no rules or oversight

Destruction of the Internet via absolute corporate/fascist control, extreme copyright laws, etc. (JUB would have been one of the quick casualties!)

    etc.

NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO LET OUR GUARD DOWN. After similar results in the 1992 and 2008 elections, the liberals/progressives collectively said "OK, we got our guy in, ALL is all right now - let's just kick back and chill, and go to sleep."

    THIS CANNOT HAPPEN AGAIN!!!!!

Very few, if any, of these "wars" were actually WON on 06 November. The price of liberty is eternal vigilance.

And it's NOT as though Obama/Democrats are the panacea, either, by any means. The Democratic Party is also uber-statist and corporate, looking out for "big" interests...but at least they're not entirely throwing LGBT under the bus and trying to destroy and "hopefully" kill us off.

LGBT may have had the biggest of all the victories, but that doesn't mean that we can let our guard down, either.

My BFF since middle school here in Texas is what I call a "Ron Paul Republican."

I'd take a bullet for my BFF, and he would for me.

As a Credentialed Member of the Texas Democratic Party, I helped to walk my BFF through the process of becoming the same within the Texas Republican Party.

Because my BFF was a "delegate" within the Texas Republican Party FOR Ron Paul, I actually got to meet the Republican 2012 POTUS candidate.

    I personally like Ron Paul.

He was NEVER a "Republican Conservative."

He wasn't even a "Republican Moderate."

Ron Paul is the only "Libertarian" candidate ever elected to the House of Congress.

He just got elected here in Texas because of his "fiscally conservative values."

    Which were....Libertarian.

Let's call Ron Paul the last "Barry Goldwater Conservative."

He only sounds crazy now because anything "left" of ideology and Fox News, is some how less credible to "liberals" and "progressives."

But check Ron Paul's record as a Congresscritter in the U.S. House of Representatives; on War, the "bail out," Gay Marriage, the Military.

He never towed the Republican Party line.

He's the Dennis Kucinich of the Republican Party.

His Son Rand Paul, IMHO is not from the same fruit as his Father.

It's not just Paul. The lineup of candidates for the GOP nomination for president in 2012 was really astonishing. It's like they went out of their way to find the weirdest people they could find.

We had a woman who claimed the HPV vaccine caused mental retardation. A doctor who once claimed that HIV was transmitted through sweat, and that HIV sufferers were "killers." A man who believed the government should intervene to prevent people from having gay sex or committing adultery. A man who wanted to hire poor children as janitors for schools. A man who claimed Al Gore is part of a conspiracy of scientists to deny the "fact" of global cooling. A man who thought Muslims (and only Muslims) should be required to take a special loyalty oath when they are elected to office. The nominee himself (presumably) believes that native Americans were Jews who sailed here from the Middle East in historical times.

Several candidates opposed abortion even in the case of rape. Most denied the facts of global warming and evolution. All of them think rich people are more important than the majority of Americans.

I appreciate that there is a fine line between genius and insanity. But this group is not weird because they are brilliant. They are an embarrassment.

Furthermore, regarding my Internet comment above, I don't *REALLY* trust the Democrats not to proceed with incredibly thorough and restrictive copyright shit against free expression on the Internet, either, not in the least - but under Republicans it was guaranteed.

Which, by comparison (to me at least) made Ron Paul the ONLY sane candidate for the Republican line up of POTUS candidates.

If I didn't want to ditch my chances of attending the Texas Democratic Party Convention in Houston, I would have voted "Republican" in the primaries just to have voted for him.

But since I haven't voted for a Republican since Bush 41, why would I give that up when I had my BFF do that for me, and with as much conviction?

Not a big fan of libertarianism either... so I don't think my view would have changed. Though I agree with you that he's hardly as bad as most mainline GOP candidates, though at this point that isn't saying terribly much.

Yeah well, like I've stated previously in this forum the last "Libertarian Meet the Candidate Forum" that I attended was at cafeteria where the leading candidate showed up not having completely removed his Klingon make up from the Star Trek Convention that he rushed from to attend the forum.

    I'm not kidding.

So even then Ron Paul appealed to me, despite my view of some of the Texas Libertarian Party Canidates.

But the only time that I actually VOTE LIBERTARIAN here in Texas?

Is when there's a Libertarian Candidate running against a Texas Republican, and there's not a Democrat in that race.

Quite an impressive list. I don't think you left anything out.
And Gloria Lockerman on The $64,000 Question spelled antidisestablishmentarianism.
Would you believe that antidisestablishmentarianism is not in my spell check?

Yeah, but Pat Robertson topped him by saying just end the "war on drugs".

The only place in government for Ron Paul would be an assistant secretary to the Secretary of the Treasury, with the job of keeping an eye on the Fed.

I agree that Paul has a lot of soundbytes.

    "Constitution"
    "Freedom"
    "Liberty"
    "Leave it to the states"
    "Free markets"

    Etc. Etc.

It was his foreign policy that first drew me to his campaign back in 2008, and I recognized what a stark contrast he was to the other candidates such as Rudy Guiliani, Mitt Romney, John McCain, and Fred Thompson. And at that time, the GOP was on the road to disaster.

Then, I took some time to re-examine my political views, as I went through the most difficult time of my life, in finally accepting my sexuality and essentially living poor on the other side of the country when I moved away from my family. I got to see life a bit differently and from the viewpoint of those that have to scrape to get by.

Fortunately, I bounced back nicely these past few years and am living comfortably once again thanks to the support of my family. But I have a stark change in my views after seeing the country differently.

But one of the things his supporters failed to grasp, is that they don't quite get how powerless the President of the United States can really be, outside of Foreign Policy. If you listen to them, the world will finally be right when Ron Paul wins the Presidency. They never quite got past that part and thought about Congress. Neither Republicans or Democrats would work with Ron. Therefore, he really would have been out of luck once in office.

They just never got past the thought of him winning the Presidency and think about "what next".
    Telling it like it is.

I respect the man for believing in his worldview which is a rare quality in the shiftless, hypocritical Congress we have. There are some good merits to Paul's criticisms of the federal government; however, many of his ideas are batshit crazy. That is why he will go down in history as merely a footnote of irrelevance. Neither a bipartisan converter, nor respected by even his own party.
