Books you loved to read, but now you can't figure out why you liked them so much

Back in the early 80s, I got hooked on the MYTH fantasy series by Robert Asprin. I thought it was clever, funny, entertaining, and a great read. I even loved (and laughed at) the ubiquitous corny puns. I couldn't wait for the next book to come out.

I read the series several times before shelving them in the 90s to give myself a break from them.

Well, I started reading the first book again recently and, for the life of me, I can't figure out why I loved them so much. It was still clever and the puns were still there, but it simply isn't funny anymore. I'm not at all sure I'm going to read the other books.

I still enjoy reading the Shannara series, The Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy, and the Spellsinger series by Allan Dean Foster, but I truly don't understand what I saw in the MYTH series.

Has something like that ever happened to you?

With Coelho, I loved them first, I was 17-18, now I find them embarrassing.
