You're making the mistake of associating the word 'crush' with childish naivete. I would describe a crush as lust, or infatuation; the desire to be with someone. It doesn't require that you write 'goldenmoth <3 <crush>' in your diary a thousand times or that you squee and giggle when he says hello, it just means that you find him attractive (the jock you mentioned, for example).

It is not juvenile to find some somebody fascinating or to be drawn to them, it's human.

I think I've already talked about him on here before. Rough and ready guy ("scally" type if you know the sort), short dark hair, mixed race, somewhat muscular. Total player, and slept around with a lot of girls. I always got on with him well; he was a friendly guy, funny and treated everyone well from the top to the bottom of the high school social spectrum (which he was pretty high up on). Towards the end of our time in high school we did a side project that meant we spent more time together. We'd been getting closer, and during a night out his friend had made a joke about the two of us that made him flustered (which I was too drunk to think anything of at the time). At the culmination of our side project we attended a party and he sought me out to go hang out with in private. As we talked he seemed more nervous than usual, as if he was building up to something (which again I was oblivious to). Another guy interrupted us and we all left together.

I'd always written off any chance of anything sexual or otherwise happening with him because of his track record; the guy got through a new girl every week seemingly. I had no reason to think he was anything but straight, but months later I found out he'd been seen kissing a gay friend of his outside a gay bar. If I'd known there was any chance I would have leapt on him at that party!
