Some questions for shirt-n-tie folks?

Are French cuffs (with cufflinks) hotter than "regular" shirts? How about tab collars?

Is a guy with a loosened tie sloppy ... or hotter that way?

Is a tie okay ever with a short-sleeved shirt?

Have you ever been seriously tempted to suggest to a guy with the back part of his tie longer than the front that he consider re-doing it altogether?

French cuffs certainly reach the next level of formality. And my guy wouldn't leave the house with a tie in that condition. Mind you he would never tie it wrong like that in the first place. He could pull off the slightly loosened tie because he has the build for it and the demeanour, kind of a sexy attitude waiting to bust out. I could not; I'd just look dishevelled. Funny thing is he may look it more than I, but it would take way more drinks for him to loosen his tie than me.

I don't wear a tie that often but I wouldn't leave my BEDROOM with such a poorly/carelessly tied tie.......
French cuffs are really snazzy but a bit much for informal wear.
I imagine a tie would be OK with a short sleeved shirt IF the wearer was wearing a sport coat/jacket also.

I see the longer back more often than I should be ... let's put it that way. My theory is that if you're not going to re-do it, at least tuck the offending section into your shirt!
Jeans, dress shirt and tie, okay? Or ... "hell no!"? (I find the combo butch myself)
I still can't deal with both a striped shirt and a striped tie!

The back part of his tie is longer than the front???!!! That would NEVER do! I've actually re-tied several guys in the past. It's also a great way to get to know them!
A tie with a short sleeve shirt is fine if you're wearing a jacket. Without a jacket, it looks nerdy and lame.
French cuffs are pretty formal. I don't see them worn much unless it's with a tuxedo.
I think a loosened tie is sexy but very out of place in a business environment.

Short sleeved shirts are an abomination and should never be worn by anyone, ever (except polo or tee shirts, obviously). The tab collar is the prince of shirt styles, very elegant, but rare. I can't get one anywhere.
If you wear a slim tie I think it actually looks better loosened, sort of rakish, but you must wear a narrow collar.

French cuffs are cuffs at the end of the sleeve that are twice as long as normal cuffs and they have no buttons. You fold them back so they're doubled over, then use cufflinks to keep them together. The cufflinks go through a hole where the button would be on normal cuffs.

I have a couple of tab collar shirts from Lands End (of all places!) -- I asked about them recently at Nordstrom and the guy told me, "Oh no, those are a Special Order item!"

I wear short sleeved shirts in hot weather - must have button down collars though!

If you are doing french cuffs and a tab collar - there is only one way to be seen in them - and that is properly dressed with everything buttoned up to the top. As far as the tie - I would not even leave the bathroom with the tie looking like that - and I have in the past mentioned to someone who I knew informally that they needed to re-do their tie (it was a somewhat formal business meeting and he looked like a mess).

Not as much here, no. I've seen it referred to as a "softball-sized knot" ("softball" is a version of our game baseball played with a larger ball - VERY popular with American lesbians and gay men; the ball is bigger than a baseball one).
