Establishment pleading for mercy as Liberals push Republicans off 'fiscal cliff'

One of the many cuts in spending coming at the end of the year is billions in corporate welfare.

Another effect of pushing the GOP to the brink on the fiscal cliff is that taxes will go up, substantially, on investment bankers and venture capitalists like Mitt Romney.

In fact, taxes will raise the most on the top 1%, who get their government insured low tax profit from savings, capital gains, and pork barrel spending will see their rate jump from a measley 15% to 39%.

Its no wonder Liberals in DC are not budging to the 'hostage takers' of yesterday, who will gladly watch the corporate subsidies and tax carve-outs vanish on two of Americans most despised special interest groups: The Wealthy and Defense 'Contractors'.

I cant say Im sorry for Republicans, they will argue that raising taxes will damage the economy, but nobody is buying it anymore.

Americans spoke loudly against the billions poured into the political debate to oust democrats, only to have it hold back another tidal wave of voter disgust over congressional GOP antics.

Republicans had the chance to take a 10 to 1 deal but walked away, now it looks like they will be lucky to get anything at all.

The GOP gambled, Democrats and America won.

(by the way, Americans already hold a 2 to 1 prejudice against the GOP if budget negotiations eventually fail)

"The worry is that Democrats will continue the failed strategy of the past, which is refusing to fight," said Adam Green, co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee. "To do so after the huge mandate of 2012 is absurd."

You forget that if nothing is done, the middle class gets the largest tax raise in history, courtesy of the Democrat party, as the Bush tax cuts expire. The House has already approved a bill to extend all the Bush tax cuts. If Republican just stick to that position, the Dems will cave in rather than take the blame for a middle tax increase.
I think they should allow the tax cuts to expire. It would broaden the tax base by bringing more people into the ranks of the tax payers, and begin to reduce the deficit. It will tip us back into recession, but Obama will get the blame.

I was going to drop in to predict that the usual suspects will weigh in to show how much they hate America, but I'm too late -- it's already happened.

    Sad.

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

I've read the absurdity (can't remember which article) that the GOP wants to go over the fiscal cliff so they then can lower taxes and not break the Norquist pledge. That is pure derision right there to the American people.

It is odd to see people have a different views of this... OKAY lets face facts... The tax rate is going up on January first. Exit polls and subsequent polling has indicated 61 percent of America will hold the republicans to blame if that occurs. The only folks that balme Obama are the marginalized racist and conservative party apologist who get their money by saying ignorant shit and having a following....

So bottom line is if we go off the cliff-(which is really more like a soft shoulder but I digress)-then lets see the republitards stand in the way of 98% of America getting a tax cut.... do not see it happening. All of this leverage is on the left not the right.

I heard this put another way earlier which is funny because it rings so true... Republicans often react to winning by saying "Okay You won, We lost; Now our list of demands are......."

    ridiculous small minded fools......

The slope has been slippery for the past 4 years. Americans chose to continue the slide.

There is no fiscal cliff, you won ... it's the democrat's idea of the new America -- lead by Obama himself.

Let all the new fees and taxes begin!!

Don't worry the Bush tax cuts expiring won't affect people making under 250k even if they have delusions that they belong to the white upperclass. Delusions aren't taxable.

I know, it's odd how this is a "new America" when all that's happening is going back to an older America. THOUGH if one does have huge amounts of cash they are no longer getting a free tax ride on, I can see how that might be seen as a fiscal cliff.

No, Americans voted to try to stop the slide -- that's why they sent more Democrats than before to D.C.

sounds like a threat to me, but republicans have been threatening fiscal cliffs and calamity on taxes for as long as they could. now that their gig is up, they are desperately trying to remain relevant.

Reid has a good record at blocking insanity in the form of bills that aren'y going anywhere anyway. That's part of his job, BTW -- making sure the Senate's time isn't wasted debating things where the outcome is already obvious.

His biggest problem is actually that he's a wimp, a wuss, a wet noodle, a damp rag... whatever; hes got less spine that the GEICO gecko.
