    One world!!!

I was thinking today about HOW we could make the world a BETTER PLACE for EVERYONE!!!

I HATE to admit that I when I consider this topic -- it is usually more singular in nature...

Obviously, there are a TREMENDOUS amount of VARIED challenges facing ALL nations...

    BUT...

Lets just consider a FIRST step...

My idea is to create a ONE WORLD LANGUAGE...

I mean -- come on -- the Tower of Babel was a LONG TIME AGO...

We NOW have INTERNETS and SUPER COMPUTERS et al...

So -- lets look at the worlds BASIC languages, latin, arabic, etc -- feed them into a GIANT computer -- and produce a BLEND language that would need to be learned by ALL human beings within the next 5 years...

The NEW BLEND language should be skewed by the percentage of human beings already speaking that language -- thereby allowing for MORE people to UNDERSTAND the new language QUICKER...

A common language would naturally create a STRONGER common bond and provide helpful to solving some of the complex issues that ALL of society is facing...

    Any thoughts???

    Or -- even better...

    Other ideas???

This was my first thought after reading your post. Nice idea, but impractical and counter-intuitive. I like diversity, so to me this is a terrible proposition. Killing off all culture at once. I could never stand with it.

Why does your culture have to die? We celebrate multiple cultures throughout the year here in the US... none of those cultures are dead, the food, the traditions and the unique qualities are all celebrated...

It's funny you brought this up. I found this article by Ted Cruz our newly elected Senator from Texas. He and Glenn Beck are opposing this Agenda 21. It is an agenda that the UN has come up with but with nothing to do with "One World". They are saying that our Government, I guess meaning Obama, is gonna turn over the Government to the UN. Who in turn will make the US just like Nazi Germany. Unbelievable.
I am gonna guess that your "One World" would become like Ted Cruz and Glenn Beck are afraid of. This is what we have to go through here in Texas, and I thought Kay Bailey Hutchinson was crazy.

Stop Agenda 21: The Constitution should be our only “Agenda.”
    January 20, 2012

    By Ted Cruz

The Republican National Committee recently took a stand in voting unanimously to oppose Agenda 21, a dangerous United Nations plan that takes aim at the American economy – and American freedom – in the name of environmental reform.

Under the guise of world sustainability the plan establishes a regime of rules that attempt to bypass Congress and the American people, handing over power over vast areas of the US economy to unelected UN bureaucrats.

Agenda 21 is wrong, and it must be stopped.

In 1992, the United Nations adopted Agenda 21 to “achieve a more efficient and equitable world economy,” outlining a process to eliminate environmental decay and social injustice through micromanaging industries, communities, and culture. They will meet again next year to discuss its “progress” in over 100 nations.

    We already are one world.

It is just that most haven't figured that out yet.

Language isn't the problem. It is always evolving and money has become the universal language that everyone understands.

    The problem is/are God(s).

There are just too many of them. While the notion of God has been the third primary driver of civilizations....there are just too many humans imposing too many peculiar obligations and interpretations on their God(s).

What we need is adherence to the universal declaration of human rights and an end to medieval religions involving themselves in the governance of the state.

rather than changing languages, I think electronic speech translators will become a lot smarter and more ubiquitous... most smart phones already have apps that can do it, I think we're only going to see them get better with time.

So besides Religion, we need to eradicate tribalism as a legitimate structure for governance.

Fortunately, the flexibility of humans being able to move around the world will eventually result in a kind of racial uniformity and complexity that helps destroy the medieval ideas of clans and tribes and geographically concentrated race based demographics. The farther away we get from this, the closer we will get to 'one world' in practice as well as theory.

Exactly. All the grasping at power by nations is nothing but clinging to something that got us here, but which has become a detriment to going any farther -- sort of like continuing to carry the 30-foot ladder that got us up the cliff now that we're following a winding path through a splendid forest.

Absolutely. Languages are a gift; the more we have, the better. A language isn't merely a set of sounds that express a given list of concepts common to all, it's a way of thinking. For example, in one Asian language (Korean, IIRC) basic arithmetic concepts are built in, so they don't have to spend time in school learning those things, they just build on it. But even between English and Spanish, or Latin, or German, there are things that just can't be said in both languages, and lots of things that can't be said quite as succinctly in one as in the other.

You're confusing the moss with the stone.

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

That's if that flexibility continues. Americans are far less mobile now than a generation ago, thanks to economic conditions -- and we're the genetic melting pot par excellence.

Although in the U.S., there's one place in particular which leads from so far out in front it's astounding: Puerto Rico. There, it's no surprise for a couple to have five children in five different shades of skin; I recall a case when I was in Miami where a family relocating from the island constantly had to explain that no, they hadn't adopted those kids, they were all really theirs, though they varied in skin color from African dark to lightly 'tanned'. Anyway, if we all had the Puerto Rican attitude, that skin color is no more important than height or show size, it would be a big step toward one world.

Language is quite often viewed as a major point of identity.

It would be much more efficient to have a single language (ideally English or something derived from it; largest vocabulary, incredibly easy to adapt, large user base, etc). It would make more sense too.

But it will not happen any time soon. People's languages are important to them. that is who they are. It allows them to relate to others like them and distance the "other" from them. Look at everyday life. When you see someone who struggles with the native language in your place, you know that they are different somehow.

The difference is rather necessary now to aid with nationalistic feelings. America overconsumes right now. It has 300 million people, but consumes and uses more resources, energy, and everything else than everyone else. That would not be as easy if there was no "them." How can "we" deserve more when everyone is the same?

I can't imagine how John Lennon's message can be achieved,
good message to aim at tho:

    Imagine there's no heaven
    It's easy if you try
    No hell below us
    Above us only sky
    Imagine all the people
    Living for today...

    Imagine there's no countries
    It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
    And no religion too
    Imagine all the people
    Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

    Imagine no possessions
    I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
    A brotherhood of man
    Imagine all the people
    Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

    I disagree with your premise...

The FACT that I do not speak Ukrainian like my older brothers and sisters and most of my relatives, does not in ANY way remove my Ukrainian roots...

I don't believe that MANY languages enrich diversity -- I think that it just makes the world a more confusing place to live together...

I believe the world should have one main language that can be spoken anywhere plus their native language if he/she want to learn their native language.

    Example:
at the moment who ever can speak the main language normally are better off than the people who don't.

Even more-so than you think, language actually has physical impact on matter as it shapes one's internal organs involved in speaking, as well as connections and thought patterns in the brain.
Ie: in Asia, blue and green are traditionally considered shades of the same colour and Asians' dividing line (well... area) between the two is broader than to a European... in a similar way Russians view light blue and dark blue as 2 different colours when European consider them shades of the same (blue) colour... Language shapes perception.

Thought patterns, perceptions, all these form cultures...
In this understanding I can see how uniting the world in one unique language means the death of diversity/cultures of the world.

English is a very very abstracted language. People who grew up with English (or even any western/romance language) don't grasp how interwoven into culture and location many languages are.

    Actually, it does.

Are you a Ukrainian national? See the reception you get when you visit the consulate to get something done. I had to visit a consulate recently to apply for my passport (dual citizen; not Ukraine though). I did not speak the language. I was a clear outsider. I am a citizen. I am one of them, but I was different. It was clear to everyone. Everyone else was speaking a language I do not understand.

It was a huge barrier. The most frequent question was why did I not speak the language.

English is an all around great language. The vocabulary is very large and growing all of the time. There is no academy or other organization to control it. It can easily borrow and steal no ideas. Other languages are not so good with this.

It is easy to learn, and pretty much everyone that matters already knows it. Nothing else comes close in terms of practicality and power.

Chinese isn't a language so you are one step behind. The two main languages in China are Mandarin and Cantonese. While we're at it, Chinese's currency is NOT the "yuan". That would be like saying I owe you 3 "monies". Their currency is the Renminbi.
