    Your most memorable character

I have had several life changing people in my life that I will never forget.
One was an employer I had during my four years at college. I had no official job title, but
today I would be called a personal assistant. I took him to doctor, lawyer, accountant visits. I scheduled his caregivers, housekeepers and cook. I did the banking as well as the quarterly withholding for his employees. I wrote checks, he signed them, including my own.

He was an highly opinionated and racist man. Every other word out of his mouth was a swear word. It probably took me a year before I got the nerve to speak back to him.
He also had a good side. He was interested in my life and met all my friends, including my bf, although he didn't know about the bf part at the time. When he first met Tomas he asked "Where are you from, boy?". Tomas had an accent at the time. He took a real liking to Tomas.
My boss would always ask me about my girlfriends. On Fridays, I would write my own paycheck and he would sign it. Then he would reach into his wallet and give me cash with the advice to take out some cute girl. This went on every week for 3 years.
In my third year with him, I notice his health begin to fail. He was over 90, so I thought it time to tell him I was gay, since he showed so much interest in my personal life.
One Friday after he signed my check, I slowly brought up the subject. When he asked me if I had a date, I told him I did, but not with a girl. I blurted out that I was gay. His response was "Oh, hell!" He sounded like John Wayne. I asked him if he hated me now.
He then told me that he had a male secretary for 30 years in NYC. He added "he was a fairy, too". Ha!
This man, my boss, the bigot had a gay male secretary and he was OK with it!! He said everyone knew that the man was gay and I asked him why he didn't have a problem with it. He simply said he was the best secretary he ever had.
He went on to tell me how he found about the man's sexuality. He said he had bailed his secretary out of jail numerous times. At that time, police raided bars where gays frequented. They were arrested just for being gay. His secretary actually died from injuries from a beating at the hands of homophobes. I still have his secretary's attache case with his initials on it. I keep it so I never forget who has gone before me.

My boss told his friends and family that I was gay and that they should not use the word "fairy" because it "offended Dan". He also told them that is anyone mistreated me, they would be disinherited. He was my protector, I guess.

So, do you have an unforgettable character?

there's a guy at my last job that i'm still cool with and talk to now and then. dude is the realest and most honest guy i've ever met. he will tell you anything that's on his mind. good, bad, offense, or whatever. he's funny as hell as well. he's the definition of someone being themselves. he says that he lies about certain things but i'll never know what it is. dude is a trip. dude cares about video games and has a horrible sense of fashion for the most part. he always talks about how much he loves porn and masturbation. he's also very intelligent and geeky.

he also doesn't give a fuck as well. haha.... dude says that he's too shy and ugly to get a woman, talks about himself negatively and etc. that's funny because he has no problem saying whatever to women even things that are sexually suggestive and offensive. he's actually handsome. if he was gay, i'd date him but he's straight. i can relate to dude but the thing is i won't admit it out in public for obvious reasons.
one thing about the closet/you don't have to hurry/it will be bad tomorrow/so brother, don't you worry

sixthson , Dan, you yourself are an unforgettable memorable character for me.

You have almost certainly had more effect upon me (positive) that any other single Jubber.

I don't don't really 'do' PMs or any of that one-to-one stuff but, rest assured, you have been a true force for good during the time I have known you on JUB. I sincerely thank you for all your kind words and supportive comments over the past years.

    Re: Your most memorable character

There was this guy at campus which I didn't really like at first. I met him about 6 years ago and he was a complete polar opposite of me. He would laugh all the time, making jokes even when the time is inappropriate for jokes, being not serious about everything, and he didn't let any thoughts linger in his mind for long. Somehow, he took a liking toward me and he often approached me just to make sick jokes (they were funny though now I think about them). So I thought he was annoying and would avoid him at first.

However, during the next year, we started getting closer and closer. He was one of the people in my batch who was there for me when I was in my lowest position (when I just recuperated from a grave illness). He could sense when I was not in a good mood and do something about it, vice versa. Over time, we started hanging around more often and sometimes even had heart to heart sessions - perhaps the first I had with a guy friend. When I asked him why he would hang out with someone like me, who is reserved, weird (I avoided using the word unique at that time), and socially inept, he said that he and I could become great mates, likewise magnets attract different poles, and I offered eccentric insights toward me - as well as a good teasing material.

He was the first guy friend I came out on and he was completely okay with that. He was genuinely okay that when we sat next to each other, he didn't mind putting his head on my shoulder (I take physical easiness as a sign of approval), and he would respond positively (sometimes negatively when it became too inappropriate) when I made gay remarks. He's a cool guy, now I think of him.
come now, my child. if we were planning to harm you, do you think
we'd be lurking here beside the path in the darkest part of the forest?

100% agree with this, but must ask male Shepard or Female?

And add that several of my male teachers growing up where like father figures to me, and I really enjoyed having them around.

I had a mate whom I met on the 2nd Friday of my 1st/freshman year at university. We had pracs for physics on that day. We're still in touch, but he's lived in Israel, the US and now Singapore in the last 4 years.

The special thing about him is his thirst for knowledge. He knows a little bit about EVERYthing, and he is one of those guys who people gravitate to. Leave him at a bus-stop with a stranger for 10 minutes, and within 5 minutes they'll be chatting like old friends and after 10 minutes they'll have swapped numbers and be meeting up for a drink this weekend.

As I said, he knows so much random stuff. The key thing, though, is that he finds it all fascinating and tells it to you in such a way that you'll be enthralled by it too. It's like talking to a David Attenborough. The best way I can describe him - and usually do - is that he could tell you something so amazing about paint drying in such a way that you'd want to rush out and paint something so you could watch him watching it dry.

A guy that I used to like in high school who inspired me to take up videography / photography. And the bi guy that "experimented" on me who is now dating my close female freinds. Yeah that's life for me.

A guy I fell in love with many years ago. He was beautiful in looks as well as in spirit, and we adored each other. Our relationship lasted nearly a year and brought me the closest I'd ever been to wanting to come out, but in the end, I just couldn't do it and as a result we went our separate ways. It was a very long time ago and I'm well and truly over losing him now, but I will always treasure the memory of our love as it was the first ... and only ... time in my life that I experienced the joy of being truly in love with another man.
