You made a thread about the US. I find it embarrassing for Americans when they think the internet is all about them. And I find it dispiriting when people from other countries focus on the US when on a given subject, their own country or some other country might be of greater relevance/interest/magnificence/excellence.

But when you make a thread about the US (and despite its unwarranted attention, there are still certainly interesting things about the States worth discussing) it makes sense for Americans to respond.
Everything isn't all about us? WTF! this thread is full of lies.... lies i tell you....

BTW what i highlighted in blue..... well it isn't possible so you should be so dispirited... that is like being dispirited over gravity or daylight. It just IS.

LOL. If I recall correctly, you've travelled a fair bit abroad. I get the impression you're aware that even if your heart will always be in your home country, there is plenty going on outside it, and other people have got good reasons to keep their homelands in their hearts as well.

What I have seen online and at JUB is non-Americans using the internet to talk about the world, but Americans using the internet to talk about the US. It's not a rule, just a trend.

Actually one of the reasons I am for both a draft of all US adults into a working corps but not necessarily a military is to broaden so many more Americans horizons. I come home and hear so many generalizations about other peoples and countries... it really is mind boggling. The die hard republicans will come hunt me down now but I would go so far as to say that nationalism is just about equal with religion for killing mankind through weaponry or poverty. One world and one humanity ala Star Trek 's world would be a place I could be proud to serve.

There have been studies done to conclude that the conservative minded people travel far less and several of them have not been out of their respective country. I personally feel this is why the GOP has to dissect each "ethnic" group. They don't know how to be color-blind.

They definitely don't know how to be color blind, around here: the south end of our county votes better than 90% Republican, and the south end is also pure white.

Nor is it pure white by accident: anyone who isn't a white Christian 'conservative' had better not settle there, unless they like replacing windows, repairing flats, and having anything laying around loose on their property vanishing... and those are on the Klan's generous days.

Meanwhile, in central county, the Klan is in retreat: just on Black Friday shopping I saw blacks, a Korean family, Hispanics all over the place, and some Chinese. It felt like I was back in civilization!

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

Maybe one of the European posters here can help me out, but if I'm not massively mistaken... don't Australia and some of the European nations give a "window" between college and work where young people are encouraged to go backpack/travel internationally?

Could be, it was explained to me by a guy from Australia and I'd never heard of it before. He just said Australia has it and it was common in Europe too.

It's called a "Gap Year" and it basically means bumming around youth hostels in another country as a way of experiencing the world.
Americans need to keep their guns so they can protect themselves from gun violence just like Nancy Lanza did. And like Chris Kyle did. And like Gabby Giffords did. And like Tom Clements did. And like Michael Piemonte.
