Actually Hamas has reason to celebrate... they received a shit ton of relief that they have been vying for since 2006. Less restrictions on movement, no more direct assaults or precision strikes, ease of flow through border checkpoints... Hamas would do well to solidify this into tangible results for their people and also at the same time esnure a deepening loyalty to their political and militant wings.

Hamas also absolutely refuses to disarm or cease the threat of violence...they say history shows the only way to force Israel to deal with the Palestinians is threat of violence. Hamas has NEVER lifted a finger for opeace because it simply doesn't have an incentive in the Muslim world to stfu and grow up.....protectors and hand holders abound in Iran, Lebanon( with Hezbollah), Egypt, Syria( now currently with Iran-supported Bashir el Assad and if Assad is replaced by Muslim Brotherhood sympathizers, the most organized and well armed of the opposition to his brutal rule).They are just biding time...peace is not in their vocabulary and in reality, not that much in that of the Palestinian Authority(formerly al Fatah) governing the West Bank,either.

Trying this would be a precarious venture, but why can't Israel promise to stop settlements-by-force-or-eviction, observe a permanent cease-fire, and change the security wall in ways which do NOT block people in the occupied lands from their own gardens or livelihoods...with an agreement from Hamas that they would no longer support or launch terrorist attacks, and they would observe a permanent and unconditional cease-fire AS WELL?

Of course, one side failing to observe these rules would break the treaty, but it would be GREAT if it actually were to work.

Unfortunately, there are too many people on both sides who **WANT** violence, death, and mayhem - remember what happened to Yitzhak Rabin (who was indeed on a route to guarantee peace). He got assassinated rather quickly, and it wasn't by somebody from Hamas - it was an Israeli who killed him.

WIKIPEDIA: He was assassinated by right-wing Israeli radical Yigal Amir, who was opposed to Rabin's signing of the Oslo Accords.

That was the saddest day in the Middle East, perhaps, in modern times.

It is illegal to kill for the Israelis to kill children in Palestine and they do not go out killing Palestinian children. What happens is that Hamas uses children and civilians as human shields when fighting the Israelis and the Israelis have no choice but to do this.

Hamas fires bombs at Israel from kindergartens and maternity wards. Try bombing the USA, China, Germany or any other country from a kindergarten. See what happens.

For a small country that has received hundreds of rockets in the last year alone, Israel has shown remarkable restraint.
