^He made comments about unions. That's when it became political, Tombastep.
Republicans blame the unions for everything that ails man. He gave us a story about being terrorized by unions that strained credulity, to say the least.
But you're right. Politics brings out the absolute worst in me, so Tombastep, I'll take your advice and disengage from this thread.

Blaming the union is just an excuse. Here are the facts.
Hostess executives got a 30% pay raise.
At the same time, they demanded that the workers agree to an 8% pay cut and a 17% benefits cut.
Even as hostess is shutting down, the executives are voting themselves each a $1.75 MILLION bonus.
How is any of this the union's fault?
Hedge funds and private equity funds acting in a predatory or incompetent manner?
Happens all the time - and it's hard to tell how much debt the company's really in, given the amount claimed by the hedge funds could be way more than the same funds paid for the debts. Lenders have probably done the maths and figured they could sell the assets at fire sale prices for a profit while ditching any pay or pension obligations.
Blah blah blah, something enigmatic sounding...
"at the same time" is not correct.
the Hostess CEO gave the execs raises prior to their 2011 bankruptcy filings. when it was uncovered, the CEO in question was fired and the new CEO was brought in on a $1/year salary; I think most other execs also gave up their raises, though I cant be assed to google it at the moment.
I believe it's that new CEO who's demanding workers agree to a pay/benefit cut.
"killing a man should take long enough for one's conscience to get in the way."
The workers had their wages cut enough... people need to stop blaming the unions. This was a case of where the management screwed up for years and continues to screw up. They may have got quite a bit of press coverage which could help their sales if they don't go out of business... but even if the bankruptcy court judge tries to saves the jobs, it's delaying the inevitable. It's MANAGEMENT FAULT the company has millions of debt and a lack of innovation. The workers don't vote on new products. The workers are being abused and lied to.
Even the conservative Forbe's magazine says it's a management failure. The writing is on the wall.

And it's even more now.in 2009 the renamed Hostess had $670M of debt – at least 2/3 the total asset value!
I take care of my employees, and they're not union workers. They're lucky that I let them out of the basement to see daylight once a month.![]()
