Re: Pics
These are really fucking pretty. Yes, they give me motion sickness a bit but we will chalk that up to my body not being fully prepared.

HDR = High Dynamic Range. It's a technique that involves taking 3 photos of the same scene (1 under-exposed, 1 correctly exposed and 1 over-exposed) in rapid succession (called exposure bracketing on SLR cameras .... the higher end SLR cameras can usually be set up to do this), then using a computer programme to combine all 3 shots into one perfectly exposed one. Just Google 'HDR photography' and you'll find lots of info on the Net about it. There are also plenty of Youtube 'how-to' clips on the subject. And yes, there are free software programmes for processing HDR images that you can download. Check out this link ....http://www.techsupportalert.com/best...r-software.htm. The one I like from that list is 'Fusion' (easy to use), but the programme I use the most is called Photomatix (not listed in the link). It's absolutely brilliant and really easy to use. You can download it here ... http://www.hdrsoft.com/download.html . There's a basic and a pro version. I'm just using the basic version at the moment as I'm fairly new to the technique but I'll probably progress to the pro version once I become more confident with it. There is a licensing cost of US$39 for the basic version and US$99 for the pro version. However, you can download the trial version for free. It actually never expires but it does place a watermark on your processed photos. No watermark is left if you purchase a license, though.
I'm really enjoying playing around with the technique at the moment and recommend you give it a go if you're a photography enthusiast and have a camera that can be set up for exposure bracketing. A tripod is also a necessity.

Great pictures, ozguy.

I think it's a multiple exposure technique that allows for different details to be shown at their optimal brightness at the same time (one big difference between a regular photo and a realistic painting). A normal photo does only one part optimally.
There are programs that can help, but I think you need to shoot exactly the same scene with differen't exposures/luminosities.

Mostly Photomatix (just the basic version at the moment) but I also have a couple of others that I like to use, too (one called Fusion ... see my previous post) and another that was included in the software that came with my camera (a Canon 7D). They all produce quite different results. Most of my finishing off is done in Lightroom.
