That it has been put up for auction at Sotheby's. Last time I checked, it was in a private collection in New York, just like Champaigne's Saint Jacques. I wonder what became of it too...
"A French marble bust of... by..." ... sheesh! I bet they would put the same description to the Comtesse du Cayla at the Frick, and tout it as proceeding from that collection as its most distinctive identity feature.
The manuscript of should surely still remain in the USA, even if not in New York any more?

If the first impression good, usually it's for last.
If the first impression you had of other works by Mozart was, as you said, that they were "crap", you may not have been judging Mozart works actually, but only those works which happen to be by Mozart that your "impressionist" mind is able to turn into something you either like or do not like.

But you cared enough to make it public all over the net instead of keeping it to yourself
I am still trying to find the proper way to rephrase it, but I wanted to reply ASAIRI...

When JP. says that Mozart's symphony no. 29, according to his "first impression" of it, is "good music", while his other works are usually "crap", he is not actually talking about Mozart's work, but about certain strips of it that fit into what he has already established as "good" or "bad".
One can be put off by certain works that you can not quite get under "a first impression", but to label them royally and definitely as "crap", according to that yes-no simple standard, is saying nothing about what one judges, but about what one is not willing, caring to even consider.

It is not even about taste: to prefer something you must first able to care to understand what it is actually saying, not about your mere "impressions" of it. First impressions are never really "first": they rely on previous ones which generate expectations, assumptions and prejudices. The more you know or ignore, the more or less sense makes what you say.

Otherwise, it is like someone said that Shakespeare is stupid because English is a stupid wrwrwrwrwr, and nothing good can come out of it, and felt justified in that position because English-speaking people say that they do not understand Shakespeare themselves.

Yes. Art is a two-way process. You can't appreciate it if you're not open to appreciating it
I know I have loved particular art-practicioners at one part of my life and then rejected them five years later.

Yes! You can understand some music (like Joan Jett for instance) after hearing it 3 times. Other music is more complex and takes more time to appreciate.

People like pop music more easily because the pop performer has the clothes, hairstyle and lifestyle in their video that you want to have. Anyway try Mozart's 39th and 41st; they have more 'swing'.

People need to open up their ears and listen better.

I agree that SOME of Shakespeare and Mozart is a little tedious but they and the other great masters of world art (Beethoven, Woolf, Gaudi) have produced vast amounts of GENIUS which is still exciting and nourishing years centuries after they wrote it.

I did not say I did not "understand" or even "like" THEM. What I do not understand is what YOU do say you understand in or about them.

You have a conviction about their "meaning" to YOU, but "understanding" is something that has sense only if it is shared, because "understanding" is not a mere feeling, it is reasoning, and reasoning is not exchanging the same sounds and finding the same feelings of assessment in another person outside your self [sic]. What is supposed to mean to me or anyone else that you understand their works, and what is it there to understand? If you dismiss Shakespeare as a whole, which shares the same continuum of linguistic and cultural tradition of Steinbeck and Rechy, what can anyone expect to mean, to "be worth" that statement you made?

In short, what are you exactly rejecting about Shakespeare and embracing in Steinbeck or Rechy: the topics, the "genre"..?

Shia LaBeouf is one hot mess.

He was allegedly drinking moonshine during filming of "Lawless" on LSD during his upcoming film "The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman" and (according to him) performed actual intercourse on "Nymphomaniac"

Right, excuse me for trying to have words actually mean something, and not ASSUME what you FEEL but do not really KNOW what they mean in your ready-made sentences...

Again, you are ASSUMING I am using Mozart as a label related to some uppity-snooty sense of superiority, while it is you who do not seem to go beyond those labels and assumptions because, oh!, it is all very "simple"...
you know, the worst sort of snooties are those who pretend to be simple people, pretending that there is a natural, obvious and simple way of dealing with things... things that they can set apart as "simple" in their own ideal world, with no connection with anything else, because the complexities of the real world, complexities like their own health of the stability of their economies and government, afford them the unassuming comfort of believing that there are actually "simple" things about anything ever going through people's minds.

It doesn't matter whether we are discussing Classical Viennese or gay marriage: the mental disposition to consider anything "non-debattable" is the same, and it is not a question about being in the right side in this or that particular topic, it is about maintaining the same open attitude in anything, and not consider something out of debate and enquiry.

When I see advertisements about yoga for a healthier body and a "more flexible mind", I wonder what sort of "flexibility" they are hinting to... you can be as nimby as Stephen Hawking and have the most "flexible" (which does not mean "loose" or "chaotic") mind you ever met... and the other way round.

In term of being a simple-non debater= Yes, there are good side of for being a non debater (Communist countries) and bad side for being a non debater (Communist countries). I dont hold strong opinion about that, it's just my preference nowadays because people tend to exaggerate and making complication for a 2 mins issue for what? For their own asshole!! (ego). Too many people like that in US, that's why I prefer the simplier way. But hold up- I ended this here 'cause this was your bait to keep debate going

Maybe because,no matter what your level of English, you do not even know what you actually want to say?

So you avoid any sort of discussion, you even fear it when it does not hinting to the conclusions you expected, and you prefer to end it all up by masking it under the appearance that I am a pompous manipulator and you are the simple good, reasonable guy, in a fake a conclusion as the synthetic smell of a spray "febreze".Ok.

I like the genre of Steinbeck when he wrote about the depression and I understand the genre of Rechy when he wrote about life on the streets. City of Night is a classic and I'm surprised that it hasn't been made into a movie but Gus Van Zant said it did influence him when he did My Own Private Idado.

Shakespeare is just crap to torture highschool students.

So for you literature is basically what one writes and reads about, not what and how one writes it.

That D&G's (yuck! argh!!) ad for their "sport" fragrance (or whatever that is) seems to have been filmed in the seaside Roman amphitheater of Tarragona... and that its model's asscheks, that I have always seen in the promotional pictures against a wall, lack some meat... maybe he stood too much posing that way.

Today I learnt that I need to check that I am wearing my glasses and have both the shopping list

and the money to pay for the stuff before I leave the house...not half way to town and the store.

Maybe if I got laid more it would help me focus on other things...ya think?

Okay, I'm off again...now what was that....

oh yeah...Spectacles, testicles wallet and watch
that should do it...ready to go

People actually call it Catalonia? I always called it Catalu˝a. In fact, I did my AP Spanish project on the region and its desire to be an autonomous region, particularly because they [IMO] have their own language of Catalan which is not exactly like Espa˝ol.

You mean "not exactly like Castilian"

Well, if you really know that much about Spain and about Catalonia, you should rather call it/her "Catalunya"
