Precisely... what the hell would you have so in common with him after, possibly, so much bastardy and miscegenation to be proud of and relate yourself so closely to him?

Only he knows... but imagine being an old gay porn star in an environment in which being a porn star, being gay or being old, separately, is bad enough already.

Damn, it would be FAR more interesting, being Italian, to fake an ancestry relating to the Cavalier d'Arpino than to the Parroting Chickpea.

I learned that Alexandre Dumas was black, that 5.56 fired from the standard G36 only has a appropriate fragmentation under 100 metres, that it is possible to achieve great numbing by intravenous application of lignocaine and some other very handy stuff.

It wasn't an original thought. Science Fiction has been doing this theme since H.G. Wells and well before TV/Movies. The ancient Greeks called it Deus Ex Machina (man against machine). In 1983, WARGAMES with Matthew Broderick played on this fear as well.

While the concept was originally developed by the ancient Greeks, the phrase "Deus Ex Machina" was a calque from the original Greek sentencein to Latin.

Sorry, but no. First, it's latin
Second Deus Ex Machina is employed when a god intervenes in a play to resolve the tragedy. It's an artifice and is now being used to expressed a situation when artificially a greater power is invoked to resolve a problem. It's a cheap trick employed in bad play, movie, mystery book, etc.

Nothing to do with man against machine I'm afraid.

PS : why ex machina, because a poor guy were being pulled from the 'sky' by machinery.

You are correct, Johann. While the everyday Joe still conceives of WWIII with a largely obsolete mental image of a nuclear exchange between global superpowers, what is more realistically being anticipated as the future of warfare is electronic warfare: the ability to shut down a country's entire infrastructure, power, communication or normal daily operations through electronic interference and hacking, or even just causing crippling financial damage doing so.

Re: What have you learnt today?

Hmmmm... I guess I am not remembering my English writing class very well -it was eons ago. I could have sworn my teacher said the main plots of ancient Greece were: man against man, man against self, man against machine, and man against God? I guess I confused some parts in there somewhere. Thanks for the corrections guys!!

But Mr.Bessler- my main point of man vs machine has been a long time plot throughout history.

One thing is certain: as our civilization stands now, it won't be dependant on one last macho man entrenched in a hodgepodgy memorial fortified burrow shooting his last bullets to the brains and hearts of the pioneers of the new civilization that would meet the exact same destiny in one or two or three thousand years from then, and who may likewise claim the same barbarian ancestry to his own civilization that he would be making to the one that he reveres in its disjointed and idolized remains about him, but that his ancestors destroyed in order to establish themselves and the mystified beliefs that he would be standing for to the last bullet.

I do read What Are You Listening To, but find it impossible to keep up with all the posts (especially belamo has the tendency to post every song he ever listened to in there).

I stumbled on the information reading a review ofthe book Gainsbourg by Rudolf Hecke on a website I frequent.

If you tell me it was staged, I'm not surprized, many of the so-called events in pop music are.

Arias have definite structures, which songs may share, although not necessarily but, most importantly, the harmonic writing, when there is one, is not the same in an aria from learned music, from pop tradition or from folk heritage.

Apart from what I answered directly to that, I remind you that you talked about "songs", in general, when you could more accurately use the term "track", since instrumental compositions are songs as much as architecture is frozen music.

As I recall it was just the main central complex along with the Queen that was blown up - a severe setback for them but nothing more - they can replace the Queen with another one very easily if I remember correctly.

Sombre fact: The last time I saw that final Voyager episode was a few weeks after it first aired on British TV, when my friend came round to watch it - on September 11, 2001. We went straight from the credits rolling to suddenly watching the news unfold. Unbelievable day.

    Sad but true.

..and in saying this you grow beyond this. That is also true.

Truth hurts. I'm sorry that's just how things are.

Who are more than this... I hope you find another to love and hold, and not get lost in it.

P.S. If not you are still loved, if by no one else but ME. I LOVE. I AM. I will likely outlive you.

    P.P.S.

Sorry, I should leave, as is appropriate--I LOVE YOU SO CAN NOT!

    I AM.... a freak? I AM. I LOVE YOU. I AM WHO I AM.

It is possible to get liver spots on the foreskin, and there is a possibility it may develop into a melanoma.

    Hopefully not from personal knowledge...
Two journalists killed during live broadcasts by madman smothering them with pillows. Because remember, guns don't kill people....

Hopefully not learned by first-hand experience?

Thankfully no. I do however have a liver spot underneath my foreskin.... It looks benign, flat, doesn't alter in size, and smooth.

Only one? bah. So I learned that mine might be called "liver spots" rather than moles Oh, and they are not underneath so much as all around my shar pei-foreskin.
I have one tiny red spot where my forehead meets the bald rest of the head, and THAT might be one unmistakably genuine liver spot. A few months ago I realized, therefore "learned", that what I had thought during the late summer that was a dirty pore in my forehead, was in fact a new, permanent pitimini mole.

The more you know, the more you learn about belamo...

If I had a more Saxon mind, I could imagine my penis is some penile version of Albright's picture of
    Dorian Gray.
