Some rappers put out their "they see me rollin, they hatin'" song...immediately followed by their "I'm sad because people hate me for no reason" song. Look, either you're cool with people hatin', or you aren't. Pick one.
May be because of some intrinsic difficulty to making real something so fairy and airy.
Or Mozart's religious work (the supposedly greater ones, not the church sonatas and the like): I used to wonder how come he composed such stiff and boring stuf in that department, until I read Landon or some other commenting on the creative restrictions that fettered his talent.
Did the Abramic religions brand sodomy a crime or did they merely adopt a pre-existing tradition in much the same way many modern churches have embraced environmentalism?
I'm not an apologist for Christianity, it's just that some things are far, far, worse.
I learnt today that the French members of parliament are fools, understand next to nothing to what is a logical expression, are badly educated and are saying such absurdities as to drive me crazy. I would need to behead quite a number of MP.
(The 3 major articles of the law about the same sex marriage and adoption have been voted, the 4th is to adapt the different codes of law, the 7 next are minor.)

Houdon is weird? Bernini? Giambologna (however gothicist he may be)?
That people are willing to forget that they just tried to backstab you - if you're useful, of course.

The Enlightenment being Europe's true gift bequeathed to the world; a history of putting religion in it's place, not steeping in it and wallowing in it. A history of first questioning absolute papal authority, and then questioning even the authority of the local theocrats. An indispensable legacy that made modern freedom possible.
And Europe's current problems are not to be solved by rushing back into the bosom of Christian theocrats: is is by applying the principles of the Enlightenment to the religion of anyone else who comes knocking at Europe's shores; of questioning anyone's sense of divine entitlement as was done with Europe's old religions; of making clear that Europe is outside the scope of people's private beliefs.
If any religion can't pass through the same Enlightenment filter that Christianity did to become a modern and moderate personal matter, then such a religion has no place in a free continent.
I learned today lots of details about what a vacation in Iran might entail. I would so like to go. I could.
Unfortunately, what I already know is that $2,400 a week is too much of a splurge.
Greek Red DamselThe worst thing...is not energy depletion, economic collapse, conventional war, or the expansion of totalitarian governments. As terrible as these catastrophes would be for us, they can be repaired in a few generations. The one process now going on that will take millions of years to correct is loss of genetic and species diversity by the destruction of natural habitats. This is the folly our descendants are least likely to forgive us.--e.o. wilson
BOSS: I'm sorry, but I'll have to lay you and Jack off. SUE: Can you just jack off? I feel like shit today.

How do you tell the difference between a carpenter and a chemist? (A chemist in USA, not British, definition.) Ask them to pronounce unionized.
