Doctors don't like using the word 'cancer' when talking to patients. I wonder if this is part of their training in patient management.

You doubt it? still today, saying to people that they have cancer is exactly like saying that they have the devil inside during the Middle Ages.

BTW I love the way the guys move in that ad: they were silly clothes, and the moves are actually more silly than sexy, but I love men so damn much that they look all sex to me

One of the first things I ever tell/request of a new doctor - as I've lost a couple doctors due to retirements or them or me moving somewhere else - is that they should not hesitate to use words like "cancer" or anything else scary if it's something that may affect me.

Thank you for your concern, Bankside. No, my statement about not wanting doctors to withhold nasty diagnoses from me has nothing to do with anything current (which entirely lacks anything suspicious), but only a reply to a post close to mine and above it which mentioned that doctors don't like to use the word "cancer" on patients.

If something nasty comes along, I definitely want to know.

That the Wikipedia article about Felix Hollaender says nothing about a work I bought as being one of his (so says the cover): Der Eid des Stephan Huller - The Oath of Stephan Huller -.
I bought it for that fraktur thing, you know, having been printed in 1912

How so? But sure glad it's happening.

Four hours ago: Johann Sebastian Bach composed 1,120 pieces of music. (This was a factoid written on a window of a small music conservatory in Highland Park, New Jersey which I saw today while just walking around and hanging out...just before going to a yummy Peruvian restaurant.)

Too many people like me forget to do it. I think manufacturers are trying to accommodate that. Antifreeze today is supposed to compete with the life of your car. Of course I went by the mileage and not by the years. It came out like mud. There was actually a layer of rust over the drain holes in the block.

What a fucking ducking stupid story: some guy gets so infatuated with a certain piece of higher class pussy that he is willing to kill his way up to marriage with her but then, once he gets it, he gets infatuated with the notion of washing away what he considers his sinful past, and spends the rest of his long live as an old sorrowful hobo. Christ! What the wise people comes up with when left alone, having whatever they have for reason delivered to their lowest passions!

The worst thing...is not energy depletion, economic collapse, conventional war, or the expansion of totalitarian governments. As terrible as these catastrophes would be for us, they can be repaired in a few generations. The one process now going on that will take millions of years to correct is loss of genetic and species diversity by the destruction of natural habitats. This is the folly our descendants are least likely to forgive us.--e.o. wilson

Maybe we're thinking different churches. That sounds like an English saint. I was thinking Roman Catholic. My Aunt had had pharyngeal cancer, so she always made sure to go. I remember you would go to the communion rail and the priest would come by and press crossed palm leaves to each persons throat and say a blessing - I think it was one or the other of the days mentioned, that's why I asked. My Aunt's been gone for a more than a couple of decades.

Now that I think about it maybe it was crossed candles and not palm leaves.

Elaine Stritch is still alive, and she appeared in Three Violent People, playing herself, as usual.

The Great Seattle Fire was a fire that destroyed the entire central business district of Seattle, Washington, USA, on June 6, 1889. Because of the fire, the streets in downtown Seattle now sit up to 22 feet above the original street levels.

No, I'm afraid you're mistaken, she's gone to Birmingham, MI.

I said that she was still alive, not that she was still kicking

Well, I said I wasn't sure about the spelling. IIRC, the guy was actually Greek, very early. There was something in the story about choking on a fishbone.

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "
