I'm glad so many guys here don't want to be younger.

I've always felt like there is so much youth worship in the gay community. When I was 16-20 guys were always buying me drinks at the clubs now it rarely happens.

Although i have regrets about opportunities passed by and paths not taken, I am forward looking.

Wishing to be younger is at once ungrateful for the time we have already been given as well as evidence that we have failed to find our purpose at each stage of life.

The question itself seems to arise from the increasingly youth-oriented mentality of our cultures, and panders to vanity.

I am 21 and I wish I could be younger. My teen life basically me being a housewife. I just wish I have a chance to be stupid and naive and irresponsible.

I am 67. I used to want to be younger, but now that I am old enough to be retired and get out of the rat race, i wouldn't want to go back. If I could be younger and still know what I know and still get social security so I was free to do what I wanted, then I would want to be in my thirties or forty.

I kind of understand it. Speaking in generalities for the rest of the post.

Most of the advantages of youth are observable. They're more active. They have more stamina. They stay out late and "have fun". They're closer to the starting line, so their lives have more "potential" ("I can be whatever I want!") and less "history".

A young person who loves to party and get drunk and fuck a lot would look on me in horror - not just because "ew" but because they picture their current psyche in my body. A guy who wants to party but gets sleepy at midnight. A guy who wants to get drunk, but recognizes that a "hard partier" at 20 is an "alcoholic" at 40. A guy who wants to get laid but who no longer looks good enough to appeal to anybody at the club. And so they're scared to death of getting older, thinking it means being a 20-year-old trapped in a 40-year-old body.

And, I'll admit, these people exist. There exist 40-year-old party animals. And I'm the last to say they're doing it wrong. But it seems most of us feel a shift in those years. Just like you didn't hate being eight-years-old because nobody fed you strained peas making airplane noises anymore. And you didn't hate being twenty because it meant no more kickball at recess. Yeah, there's fun stuff from previous ages you tend not to do anymore. But we grow up. We develop new tastes. I don't go to bed early and read long books and listen to obscure music because I'm old, and that's all that's left to me now. It's because I really enjoy it.

I'm happier and more at peace than I ever was at twenty. But put a picture of me next to one of a twenty-year-old, and ask anyone (especially under thirty) which of us leads a happier life. I bet they mostly pick the young guy. Because, y'know, he's not old.

But it is funny if you look at personal ads on a4a and other sites the age ranges sought for older guys are almost always younger. "I'm a 50 y.o. guy looking for 30-48" etc. Of course at 18 you can't say you are looking for younger!!!!!!!!!!!!

Twenty Two and it's whatever. I wouldn't want to be younger though. Youth is the best thing ever, but being old enough to stand your ground is too rewarding. No longer am I force to like under someone else's rules like some robot.

I'd rewind 10 or 20 years if it meant I could change the way things turned out by doing a few things significantly differently to the way I did them this time. But if it meant just re-living my life and experiencing the fun stuff a second time, just the same as before, then no.

I know I'm officially old at 36, though, because I can see every day that youth is wasted on the young.

Li'l Bit is 33, and he prefers not to live in the past. Certainly there were lots of great times in the past, but Li'l Bit would like to believe that there are lots of great things to come in the future. (Of course, this may be due in part to the fact that Li'l Bit is currently on the job market, and he'll be moving some time in the summer.)

In terms of looks and health, Li'l Bit is in better shape than he was five years ago. Youth is overrated.

What expectations in particular are stressing you out so much that you're enjoying your life as it is? Are these your own expectations of those of people around you?
