What's wrong with me? My list of symptoms.

I went to my doctor with a list of symptoms and I was really disappointed in her reaction. She blamed it all on irregular sleep and depression. She did agree to do a blood test though, which came out fine, but it was just a basic general one not searching for anything specific.

I'm pretty sure that I have something and it really bothers me not to have a name for it so I can have it treated.

I want to share my symptoms with you just in case you might recognize a pattern from your own experience. I know you can't diagnose yourself but it might help to have some idea of what it could be the next time I see a doctor.

I know there probably isn't a connection between most of those but I decided to put everything just in case. Better to put too much than too little...

    • Fatigue (tiredness). I pretty much lack energy 24/7. Doesnt matter if I get my 7-8 hours of sleep.
    • Numbness in my left leg. The veins under my cheek down to back of the knee look swollen. I can feel the pattern (kinda like a net) when I touch it with my hand.
    • Flue like symptoms regularly without fever (in fact I havent had a fever for like a decade and my average temperature is on the lower side or 36.3 C / 97.34 F).
    • On a regular basis I get a cough, whenever I do I get stuck with it for weeks or even months.
    • I often wake up with a swollen throat in the morning.
    • Most days my eyes are really stiff and dry when I wake up.
    • Worsen eye sight and mild double vision at times (closing one eye doesnt make it go away)
    • Irregular sleep pattern (I always get my 7-8 hours though)
    • Benign fatty tumor on the chest which I had removed few months ago.
    • Hemorrhoids on a regular basis.
    • Urinate very frequently.
    • I have traces of something which looks like fungal infection on the back of my tongue near the throat (I suspect there could be some in my throat which might have something to do with cough). I was on Doxytab for like 5 years to treat acne when I was a teenager which might be the reason (very irresponsible of my skin doctor).
    • Erectile dysfunction for 2 years (age 24-26). When I started on Zoloft it got cured on day one. I dont think it was the depression though because it takes weeks or months for it to work on that. One of the side effects is that it thins out your blood so Im rather betting on that one being the reason for the sudden fix.

Discussions with people in general about these things can help.

For example if you end up chatting with a person who has a disorder and recognizes the patterns then you could gain from that.

Like I said I didn't expect to get diagnosed here but someone who has had similar experience or similar symptoms might be able to give me advices on what to say and ask for when getting that 2nd opinion.

    Nope.

I've been reading about disorders lately and I'm thinking it might have something to do with the thyroid or weak immune system. Diabetes also crossed my mind but I had my blood sugar checked and it came out normal.

Do you have a healthy diet? How much water do you drink? Do you do any sports?
To me it sounds like your nervous system can't restore the amount of neurotransmitters it uses up in a day.

Many of your symptoms are those of diabetes. I suggest that you google diabetes symptoms. Definitely you should ask you Doctor to test for diabetes, and do it soon. You should also see an eye doctor, preferably an opthamologist, an MD specializing in eyes.

I was thinking the same... Get an A1C test for diabetes and also a TSH done for thyroid. For your eye problems, a good opthamologist (an MD) can help. Don't go to an Optometrist. Good luck and keep us informed.

Re: What's wrong with me? My list of symptoms.

I had my glucose checked and the results was a healthy 4.5. I was betting most on this because I read about it and I have like 90% of the symptoms listed for diabetes-II. Especially the lack of energy and numbness in my leg. I don't smoke.

I also had the THS checked and it was healthy too. But I've read that if you have strong symptoms they should check for more than that, something called T3 and T4. So I might ask for that next time.

The problem is that a lot of doctors have a ego and they don't like it when the patient comes up with something they didn't think of. I got that feeling from the one I saw last time so I'm gonna get 2nd opinion.

My diet is healthy but I probably don't exercise enough. I still think I have too much symptoms for it to be just that. It's been like this for 3 years and when I was working out it just made me worse.

One thing struck me from the blood test. My neutrophil (most important white blood cells) number was just 2.0. It's technically isn't low enough to be a disorder but it's very much on the lower side. It's suppose to be somewhere between 1.9-7. It has gone down from 3.6 down to 2.0 since I got checked two years ago. Many of my symptoms are typical for a weak immune system and the neutrophil's are the most important part of it.

It is a mistake to think all the symptoms are related. The hemorrhoids and fatty tumor, for instance are not.
Some of your symptoms may result from dry atmosphere in you home, especially during cold weather. The dry eyes, swollen throat in the morning, etc.
Beyond that you have to consider that perhaps you have a bit of hypochondria. Apparently the Doctor did not see any fungus on your tongue, but you continue to believe it. Fatigue is something that is easy for us to exaggerate. Most of us would like to sleep better. Flu-like symptoms without the fever?? I am not sure what that would be. We all have imperfect health, but grouping a number of isolated symptoms together to one big disease is unnecessarily alarming you. I intend this constructively, so please do not take offense.
I suggest you get a second opinion and then try to accept the Doctor's opinion. But do see an eye Doctor as well.

I never did, which I clearly stated in the original post. But when getting someones opinion on your health it's best to mention everything just in case there is a connection of some of them which you didn't see yourself.

My worst period was this past summer so no. It's been on and off for 3 years and the time of year doesn't effect it.

She didn't even bother to check that one. She also didn't bother to take a look at my leg.

The symptoms on my tongue and leg are very visible. I've showed both to my mom and she saw it to so it's not just in my head.

But I'm not much worried about the tongue. It's probably just something I got from taking the anti-biotics. The leg worries me though.

My health is bad enough for it to be noticeable to others. Especially the fatigue. My 70 year old stepfather is more energetic than I am.

It's not normal for a 27 year old to be exhausted and feel the need to take a nap after a half an hour trip to the grocery store.

Some of the things I listed. The cough, fatigue and swollen throat.

It can be a sign of weak immune system to feel that like you have a mild flu for a long period of time. A strong immune system makes you feel sicker for a shorter period of time because you get a fever. The fever is the bodies response to fight the infection.

Doctors are far from being perfect. I've heard multiple cases of people seeing them again and again and never getting diagnosed although they had something serious. My aunt died from cancer because it was diagnosed so late. For years her doctor just subscribed painkillers to her without finding what was wrong.

I appreciate you being honest and I'm not offended. However I think you are wrong on this.

I will get a second opinion and hopefully I will see a better doctor and be better prepared for it.

Go to naturopathic doctor also because some of this may be helped by alternative methods. I can't give you any specifics though. Sorry.

Fatigue, erectile dysfunction, numbness and flu-like symptoms are not uncommon in men with chronic nonbacterial prostatitis. Good luck.

    Thanx for that.

It clearly is a possibility. Sometimes after peeing and ejaculation I get a burning sensation (forgot to put it on my list) which fits this. I first thought it was an STD but the checkup came out negative.

    I'll look into this.
