David Frum: 'Republicans Lied To by 'Conservative Entertainment Complex'

So I missed this chat, but maybe Frum's voice will start to be heard again on the issue.

I can't tell exactly who he's referring to *cough* Murdoch *cough*, but he's dead on. The shoutrage conservative media *cough* Limbaugh *cough* are making the Republican supporters stupider and stupider.

The only pisser though is that Frum was part of the Bush era cabal that used the Rove stupid voter strategy.

I have to think though that his late mother would be proud that he's finally trying to undo some of the damage.

I mention his late mother, Barbara Frum, because she was a highly respected journalist on the CBC who I do not think, from my own personal association with her, would have been pleased with his actions during the Bush years when he was part of the neo con cabal, along with other opportunists, who helped push the US into a war of adventure.

He is not half the man his mother was.

I really wish FOX would have contrarian conservatives and moderates more regularly....so sick of seeing Greta van Susteren who isn't one of the right wing true believers having Donald Trump, Karl Rove, spotlighting Rush Limbaugh's latest gospel .... FOX is too much in bed with the hard core right. Thankfully they had Megyn Kelly trying to walk Karl Rove off the ledge on Election Night and were sane enough to call Ohio for Obama but for my distaste with almost ALL of MSNBC(save Joe Scarborough when he's not trying too hard to fit in with the progressives) the other night the conservatism on FOX is too hard line, too agenda driven. Fair and balanced shouldn't mean we're movement conservative because everyone else isn't.Conservatism doesn't have to mean unhinged and reactionary. We need more voices... the original conservatives were very rational, distrustful of all radical "isms" and while not in favor of radical change accepted the need for slow, evolutionary movement in society. They'd be appalled by what our GOP conservatism has devolved too....radically activist, anti intellectual and deferential to authoritarian institutions. Talk about the Constitution and liberty but often favoring agendas that harm the liberty of others.

I come off on the right here but I'm not an unprincipled one...not even all that conservative in the grand scheme of things. But I appreciate the need for balance...conservative, centrist, liberal ideas battling it out and heard by large audiences. I detest ideologues right or left.

I don't get it.

Republicans specifically created the "conservative entertainment complex" so they would have a way of deceiving themselves. They felt uncomfortable listening to the truth as it was understood by the rest of the world, so they created their own "truth." With its own "experts" and its own pseudo-science. It is a world devoid of problems that Republicans would otherwise be obligated to address. It is a world of infinite American fossil fuel resources. A world without global warming or pollution or a hole in the ozone layer. A world without an innocent and needy class of poor people. A world without disease that is expensive or necessary to treat. A world in which guns work better than diplomacy at solving problems.

That that world never existed was precisely the point. The brilliant insight of the Republican Party of the past 30 years has been that it is easier to replace the truth than to actually deal with the world's problems.

Now, Frum is complaining that the fantasy they created is a fantasy?!?! That was the point from the very beginning of the "conservative entertainment complex!"

I find it somewhat socially justified. I just wish there was a news station that reverted back to simply telling the news with NO lean or opinion. And if they did entertain opinion it clearly stated this is opinionated and not a factually based editorial.
