Why does Taylor Swift even get nominated for Country Music awards anymore, her new songs are hardly country. They're basically all mainstream pop now.

Also, why country has never majorly broken boundaries outside of the US is a mystery that historians hundreds of years from now would probably like to solve. I mean go to UK or any other part of the world and start naming country stars, people barely have any idea who they are. It seems country is very US-only. In fact most country stars with some international success are those that have infused pop music into their work at some time.

Overall, country music to me is mostly boring as hell and very annoying. It's basically the concept of singing about anything. Your pen fell off the desk? Country song right there. Start with how the day was, where you got the pen from, what you were thinking about when you put it on the desk, and how you reacted when it rolled off the desk. End the song with a verse about how you should have left the cap on to prevent the pen from rolling. This will serve as a hidden message about your love life.

I think Taylor is relegated to the hybrid categories such as pop-country. I think the reason Swift was shut out of many categories is that she didn't have a new album to coincide with the rewards show. Next year she will kill with Red which is already platinum within one week and smashing records.

I think the reason Blake got Entertainer of the Year is because of The Voice. While I hate talent competitions in general, I actually like The Voice. The show crushes in the ratings more so than X-factor or American Idol. Funnily enough, Keith Urban is on the AU version of The Voice.

I'm no country bumpkin but that genre of music definitely grew on me. Outside of Taylor Swift, I think the only country act that has the potential to go internationally is Zac Brown Band. They are amazing musicians and people who even hate country can appreciate their talent.
