I've had people say similar things about my pictures. I tend not to remember exactly who or what they said. you know, this has been on my mind so i'm going to get it off real quick. i hope nobody takes offense to this BUT i am NOT feeling the whole concept of these history months which are being designated towards "minorities" and i put minorities in quotes towards people that are NOT white men. to be honest with you, i think it's an insult and a psychological tool to make those that may NOT have as much power, big in population in american society or better yet historically been discriminated or victimized in american society from all levels including the government level to feel like they aren't shit. as a black male, i refuse to celebrate black history month. i also don't understand why other black people or other people for that matter chose to celebrate it either. you know, history is something that you live everyday because the past often determines what we will do in the present and in the future. memory is fucking important. if your memory bank is NOT working, you cannot properly function in life because you'll always be forgetting what you have to do. i don't need a month to tell me to look into the history of black people around the world or the history of women in the world or the history of the world or the history of gay people in the world. it's supposed to be something that you're interested off the bat. i feel that one huge problem with the school system in america is that they don't teach kids that education and learning is something you do all the time even when you're not in school. the same thing with the parents and guardians as well. they don't push the kids to be interested in education. kids are pushed to be more into entertainment and etc. you have the parents being more interested in seeing their kids play around with furbies, toys, being more concerned about acting out gender roles where you have the little girls playing with barbie dolls and easy bake ovens and boys playing with toy trucks, action heros and the latest x men comic book. there shouldn't be a reason why there are tv ads by state educational systems talking about "kids are passing the standardize test showing that they can read at 3rd grade level". how embarrassing is that? i would have to say that i'm happy that california is actually trying to make a change within it's educational system to encourage further learning outside the classroom or making kids take an interest in history where they're incorporating gay history into the curriculum where it's learned all the time. that's how it's supposed to be. history is NOT something that you take interest in for a month. i feel that the school system is failing the kids because the kids are not going home with the main idea of what school is about. you may not go to school everyday or will be in a educational facility all your life but learning and education is universal and the key to survival in life. i just get a bit pissed off when i see some folks suddenly take an interest in black history on feburary as they feel that's the only time they should be interested in it. then when march comes around, it's back to normal.

one duty that people in general have an obligation to do for themselves is to educate themselves. you don't need to go to school to have an interest in learning. it should be within you to want to know that. don't do it because it's a certain history month. okay, that's enough of my rant.
