Oh no... I meant *I* had to get them to let me drop it my last two years because of all the other classes I was taking. At the h.s. level they're more flexible about it if you have a specific reason, or at least mine was. But with a required yearly religion class it's even hard to fit in all the CA state h.s. requirements let alone if you're taking anything extra for college.

My friend was in Catholic school for years, even though they weren't Catholic. He said the public schools there were a joke, and it was worth going to chapel and pretending to agree in religion class if it meant not going there. Sounds like that wasn't the case with you, though.

That's how it was for me. I'd say at least 50% of the student body wasn't Catholic. Our parents just didn't want us going through metal detectors everyday. I got in pretty big trouble during a during-the-schoolday on campus mass in the gym when the priest was lifting the cup of wine and I whispered "o holy big gulp" and everyone started laughing. :/

    YES!

I have a similar story. We were in church, and I think it was some special function (I don't recall what). During an idle part of the mass, I glanced over the bulletin, and there was this note - "Thanks to Marilyn Smith for providing the floral arrangements for today's service." I glanced back up at the front of the church...and saw these two small, all-but-dead flower arrangements on either side of the altar. I nudged my brother, and pointed to the note in the bulletin. Then when he had read it, I indicated the altar area with my head and muttered "Yeah, THANKS, Marilyn." We both started laughing so hard we had to leave church.

One time when I was a kid, I went to church with my grandmother. She kept a wooden spoon in her purse to threaten us with (she never rarely used it though). During one of the quieter parts of the sermon, my younger cousin pulled it out and held it up as high as he could, and yelled out, "Spanking Spoon! Spanking Spoon!"

I, and my grandmother were horrified.

LOL yeah they like making you leave the service if you're laughing about anything. Towards the end of senior year my friend and I would start laughing about things on purpose just because we knew they'd make us go sit on the bench outside and wait for it to be over and then we could screw around.

.... and I know how everyone on JUB is going to read that.

Max, if you might someday feel inclined to tell us all how you got an 800+ credit rating, I think you'll find many interested readers.

As far as I can tell, very few people ever reach that rating. Before life threw me some curveballs, my credit rating was 770.

You two probably picked my two favorite Bob Seger songs. So kudos to you both.

Here's an oddity. When I became interested in the history of pop music over the years, I looked up the music of my youth. And I found the Bob Seger's second highest charting song was "Shame on the Moon", which hit #2 in 1983. When I was thirteen. And, like most 13-year-olds of all time periods, I was an avid consumer of pop culture at that time. And I don't remember that song at all. Admittedly, I was getting much of my music from MTV at the time, and there was no video for it. But "Baby Come to Me" by Patti Austin and James Ingram hit number one that same month - it had no video, either, and I knew that song really well. Did my local radio stations just skip over that Bob Seger song, for some reason?

I would guess "We've Got Tonight' would have been on a slower, ballad type station, and not mixed with the more upbeat MTV "pop" music ?

Bob Seger's most popular song was probably Old Time Rock and Roll because of Tom Cruise dancing in his tighty whiteys.
    But his best songs are;
    Roll Me Away
    Night Moves
    Turn The Page
    You'll accompany Me
I've been a Seger fan since the 70's.

Well, "Baby Come to Me" is a pretty simpy ballad, and I knew that one. It's odd that I didn't know "Shame on the Moon".

Depressingly enough, Bob Seger's highest charting single was "Shakedown" from Beverly Hills Cop II.

I'm frustrated with myself because I know I can do much better in my professional endeavors, but I just can't figure it all out.
It sucks to feel like you have so much potential and "drive", but know not what to do with it.

I just don't feel passionate enough about anything to completely throw myself into it.

I have always secretly felt that the great majority of what you can actually 'make a living at doing' in our reality in western societies is pretty limited and pretty dull. Some type of paper pushing.

Seconded. Sort of. I think I've figured out what I'm good at, and I can think of how to make some coin at it. (Not a lot, but some.) But then comes the tough part - selling others on the idea. And this sucks doubly because 1. I've had a tough time really explaining the ideas to people, and 2. I'm a terrible salesman. I have to basically walk up to people and say "I have this idea that will work great, so give me some money to make it happen, and it'll be worth it in the end." And I'm just terrible at that.

You're right. You suck at it. I read this and thought, "Used Car Salesman".

Yeah--it takes a lot of thinking outside of the box these days, I guess? I think. You really have to work hard to do something/and present yourself in a way that no one has before. I'm just trying to find the box in general. Not trying to toot my own horn, but I know I am capable of doing something memorable--but I just have to pull it out of myself.

get your mind out of the gutter. lol

I know what you mean. Oddly enough, I think I'll have that part down once I figure out what the hell I want to do with myself. What would life be without a few hurdles, right?

All my hurdles feel like they're the size of goal posts... and I hate you for making me use a sports reference!

My biggest hurdle isn't that I underestimate my own abilities - I think I've got a good grasp on that. It's that I always overestimate everybody else's. I assume everybody else has everything all together. They know precisely what they want and how to get it, they can sell it like nobody's business, and they walk in, shake hands, and leave with a lifetime contract. And they both look over at me like "What's this insecure guy with his 'potential ideas' doing here?" I have to keep reminding myself...well, not that I'm on the same level as THEM. More like they're on the same level as ME. They're as insecure and fumbling around as I am. So they don't really have a leg up on me, even if I feel they do.

They do, in as much as they're the ones holding the cash you'd like to part from them.

I think entrepreneurship would be fun but I think it's so much harder to do today, with such huge, established, global mass-production competition and so much cost of startup today that I almost feel like we missed the time to really do that by about forty years. :/ I mean my grandfather literally, bam, rent a small office and he's a law firm. In his time. Today it's such a nightmare of filing for a corporate identity or becoming an LLC and having the right kinds of insurance for your business and fees and licenses and then on top of all of that you have to work your tail off to *maybe* not fail in your first 2 years and the odds are against you. Oh and someone in China is doing what you're doing for 10 cents on the dollar. :/ And people are buying it at Wal*Mart.

get your mind out of the gutter. lol
    Boom chika bawm bawm.

Of course, if I was being totally honest, what I really want to do is lay around in a robe like a greek philosopher and have rich people pay to send their kids to hear me ramble at them all day. Yesssss. Dream job.
