If someone posted about this yesterday, I missed it. I didn't want October 12th to go by without remembering Matthew Shepard's death. The brutality and wantonness of his murder still haunts me.
RIP, Matthew

Spend the afternoon. You can't take it with you. ~Annie Dillard
He'll always be remembered.
Thank you for the memorial.
The best remembrance is to take time with a young gay man, and help him in whatever way you can offer encouragement.
Thank you for the Remembrance. Never Forget (REAL not the other Never Forget BS) One person...ONE...NOT a FAKE MASS. ONE ONE ONE......

I am working on what form my JUB reincarnation will take...
I just returned from the Bear To Make a Difference Gala fundraiser for the Matthew Shepard foundation. It was a wonderful event that raised over 100,000 for the foundation. It was an emotional evening especially when you see how strong Judy Shepard is and hear her speak. JustUsBoys has given over 15,000 to the Matthew Shepard foundation over the last few years. While losing Matthew was one of the most horrific events of its kind in this country, the change it has made in people's lives is amazing. I'm headed to bed tonight but I'll be posting some more photos from the event here tomorrow: https://www.facebook.com/gayagendasite?ref=hl
The internalized and systemic homophobia in countries and communities allowed this to happen.
The good thing though, is that his death was not in vain. It has been a lightning rod for gay rights and speaking out against hate.
RIP. Remembering the brutality of his death just makes me feel so ... helpless. Who knows maybe I will have to face the same fate soon. Better get out of this fucking country. But how do you escape all your past connections?? Oh I am maybe talking rubbish, sorry.
Anyway, rest in peace matthew.

I think other victim of hate crimes get overlooked because the focus goes to Mathew Shepard.
As I have said before, the guy who was my first boyfriend was murdered with a baseball bat.
(I do not say this to get any sympathy) Mathew was not the only one who died for being gay.
Aaron Webster was killed on Nov 17 (2001) Just over month from now
All the victims need to be remembered, not just one person

(Sorry, it is a pet peeve now that I think about it)
update:
I decided that the thread is about Matthew and I was doing what people do on twitter: they don't always think before they tweet. this is about Matthew and he was sadly the one to be the face of abuse in gays
If this was a 'victims of gay bashing' thread and only Matthew was mentioned, that would be more appropriate for me to call for 'fire and brimstone'.![]()
In keeping solemnity for Matthew, we remember them all. There is no limit for honoring the dead, especially those who suffered unthinkable deaths for being gay.
Thank you for voicing love for Aaron, as is most appropriate in the light of the remembrance.

Thank you Hard up. Well said. Thank you for the comment in my comment section ;-)
It is good that Matthew is the face of gay hate crimes. His tragic death brought life to an issue that needed to be adddressed
