    Re: Should prostitution be legalized?

Yes, absolutely. The criminalization of prostitution is a prime example of the way corrupt legislators subvert the system to their advantage. As they know if they legalized it, they'd have to pay more for it, due to the overhead costs of a storefront, license fees, etc. As obviously, prostitutes will have to pass their increased costs on to customers.

^^^^^^ This. Moreover, prostitution is legal The Netherlands.

I'm actually conflicted about this issue.
But this is due in part to the fact that it is illegal. Right now prostitution can only happen on the streets, in back alleys, in shady places, or clandestinely. Legalizing would take it out of these places in my opinion. if it was less of a tabboo, then those being forced into it would be better equipped to fidn their way out. As it is now there's a bit of a vicious cycle, especially for those who are forced into prostitution (often times as a result of drug addictions their pimp/dealer have developed in them to keep them stuck in that life). If they go to the cops they're gonna get arrested, and all kinds of shit in their life is gonna be fucked up. Many don't come forward to police because of shame/ fear of prosecution etc.

Legalizing prositutuion would give the prostitutes a safe place to go for their job, probably a way to track and monitor so that people aren't being forced, and most importantly would eliminate the pimps (who are really the biggest problem in the whole issue) Plus there's all kinds of stupid costs related to fighting prostitution that could possibly be gotten rid of. I remember a lecture in my Criminal psych class one time about prostitution, and the costs and things... when you look at it, legalizing it would make the whole industry safer, would cut down on several types of crimes which tend to be closely linked to prostitution, and would allow cops to spend more time focusing on chil prostitution, and other cases where kidnapping is involved, instead of investigating every hooker on a corner.

But I'm rambling a bit. just my thoughts.

    Re: Should prostitution be legalized?

definitely yes!! its they're own body that's being used so the government or anyone else has no say to that! but its still depends like taking drugs which is not legal because it will ruin someones life it may not be for the user but may also to the people around him so its understandable, but for prostitution being illegal its none sense?!

Yes. If you wanna use your own money to get sex from someone willing enough to loan their bodies for payment, why should I say no if you are consenting adults?

It's the oldest profession in the world. Why not? IMO marriage is just legitimized prostitution anyways at least till the 20th century when women started to earn equality.

It should absolutely be legal. People have the right to do whatever they want with their bodies, including rent them out for recreational purposes if they chose.

That is a crime like forced labour is a crime.
So this defense to banned prostitution is not a good one.

If the laws were tightly written requiring age and health certification, maybe some form of counseling if the prostitute wanted it... Why not, it's their body.

Yes, one of the reasons it's not is because it can't be taxed, but neither is taking a girl out for dinner or buying her a gift. The person who earned the money was taxed and should be able to spend it on a hooker if they want to.

I pay to take a guy out for dinner and drinks in the hopes of getting laid: not prostitution
Take the amount I'd pay in dinner and drinks and pay someone for a shag and save time in the process: zomg you sexual deviant

Being a whore doesn't necessarily mean one just sells his or her body outright.

Legalise it; regulate it; tax it. Done.

Maybe one day the world will stop being a bunch of repressed, homophobic, puritanical twats.

Prostitution should be legal but restricted to certain spaces like a bunny ranch, because if something serious happens like an outbreak of a new strand of Aids or Hepatitis is detected the prostitutes are like top candidates to be exposed to this head first (no pun intended), that way health authorities can contain the spread and find patient zero fast.

Absolutely. Put the agency in the hands of the sex workers and not the police and pimps who take advantage of them due to the illegality of the act. Put the police to work protecting them instead of harassing them. But, try to keep the underage kids out of it. At least the under 16s. Provide better youth services and addiction counseling.

I strongly oppose the legalization of prostitution, because it would lead many to believe that it is "okay" to sell yourself out.
It would also have moral consequences, and the spread of STDs would increase.

Prostitution is the refuge of the incompetent. (ehehehe... f*ck you Asimov.)
What about those who sell their dignity in absence of sex - politicians, lawyers, executives, etc.? You don't have to have sex to be a whore.

Just remember, your morals are no more right or important than anyone else's, even if they disagree.

I can't stand the prostitution business to be honest. I find it absolutely disgusting. Yes it's the woman's choice to sell herself - but what type of sane woman on this planet can stand up and be proud of being a prostitute? That's not a real job. Please. I've seen first hand what it does to the women who work in those places, and it's terrible.

    Totally agreed!

If your cock slides into my ass, it automatically connects to your credit card account for a charge...good for 10 minutes. It recharges every 10 minutes as long as your cock is still in my ass. If I get a "denied" message from your account, your cock gets ejected; and my ass is shutting down for business.

if somebody wants to make money off of their body for sexual purposes, then they have every right to. as long as they are of age though and consenting to it. there's are people outthere that are doing it against their will or are sex slaves. it should be regulated by the government where brothels are taxed. if i were president, i'd legalize prostitution in all 50 states.

It is not right to be a whore, it is not right to sell sex, and if it were legal many would get the impression of the opposite. It would become okay, and later it would become "accepted".
It is not right by whose standards? From where are you deriving authority to say what is morally prudent or not?

Well, it was made legal here about ten years ago. Hasn't really changed anything apart from people not getting arrested and brothels being more open about their business.
But it hasn't changed public perception about the trade, probably hasn't done anything to improve the behaviour of exploitative brothel owners and hasn't stopped street prostitution (don't think that's legal, but have no idea). The trade wasn't particularly big before, doesn't seem much bigger now.
Just means that people make a decision based on their own morals (and probably their own need for discretion) but not the law.
Blah blah blah, something enigmatic sounding...

I do not have authority but I have an opinion that I am pretty much willing to spread. Morality exists for a reason.

    Let's just agree to disagree.
Bollocks. Morality was created by man and is thus fallible and changing. Look what was 'moral' and 'acceptable' thousands of years ago that we, today, discourage.

But yes, I agree we disagree =]

[QUOTE=Coward92;8418406]It shouldn't be legalized. It should be rooted out and crushed.
There always will be people who are willing to sell their dignity, but it doesn't mean, that I have to approve of it.
I strongly oppose the legalization of prostitution, because it would lead many to believe that it is "okay" to sell yourself out.

"Rooted out and crushed?" About as much a chance of that happening as rooting out and crushing extra-marital sex, be it hetero or homo.

Commercial sex threads appear frequently here, and I've been surprised to find that over the two or three years I've been posting that I'm the only man who writes about his own experiences as a whore. I thought "escorting" was something a good many gay men in their twenties did for greater or lesser periods--generally lesser--while engaged in or on their way to other endeavors. My hustler buds were largely other college and grad students, or recent graduates and young professionals out for bucks and a good time. Maybe it's the places I've lived, but I've always imagined a lot of other young guys were doing the same.

Legalize prostitution? Of course. The only problems I would see are that some of us on both sides of the transaction would prefer to avoid any official record of it--forget registries and social security deductions--and that the "illicit" status of commercial sex can add a certain thrill.

As I've written before, I had a great time selling my ass. Many fine men, and some awesome sex.

Yeah, you may be right. Perhaps it was just the places I was living and the company I kept--I often hooked up with guys at clubs or gyms who had the same sideline that I did. Perhaps once you're involved in the scene you understand and/or interpret (rightly or wrongly) behavior in ways you otherwise wouldn't.

My best straight friend/sometime workout partner tells me that during his trainer/waiter/would-be actor years many of his fellow t/w/a buds straight and gay were escorting on the side, and that he turned down more than a few offers, including porn, to do so himself. He's outstandingly cute. Would have been a big hit.

I once worked at a small, privately-owned gym. Found out that the handsome former bodybuilder owner (a cop, no less!), had a very small stable of GFP bodybuilders he repped.

But again, maybe I've got a particularly skewed view of the subject.

    Re: Should prostitution be legalized?

Of course it should. It's an absurdly puritanical hypocritical double-standard which makes it illegal in the first place. Prostitutes of both sexes and all persuasions will always be working, and there will always be calls for their services. (And as we know from the news, the sort of people who trumpet the loudest about the evils of the sex trade are often the greatest users.) If it's lawful, then there can be some sort of proper legal protection for them. As there should be.

I've seen first hand what it does to the women who work in those places, and it's terrible.
    Just women?

I have seen a lot of moral prostitution, more than sex prostitution. I've seen a lot of people in a work just to pay their bills, proud or not. I've been one of them, I'm still one of them.

Of course it's one choice to pay for sex or not...and it's one's choice to rent out his body or not. If "prostitution" means somebody getting paid to do a desired thing in return with their body, then it can be applied to many things besides sex. I've often said that people such as attorneys and politicians are doing the EXACT same thing, except it's not sexual in nature.

And looseliam says the same thing, too! L., I don't always agree with you, but your post here and the one a little bit earlier that preceded it, are so entirely spot-on!!! You have said a number of things over the years that make me think, as well.

You might want to note that his first paragraph was actually FROM SOMEBODY ELSE'S POST, but it wasn't clear because LatimerRd made a mistake on the Quote function and it didn't "print" as one. Yes, that happens...easily.

Being intimately involved with the topic of this thread, LatimerRd's comments here are valuable and relevant. I'm vaguely sure that I remember he had a thread about this topic maybe two years ago, and I think I made some heartfelt and very favorable comments in it. I'm even thinking it may have been a thread about wanting to become and escort and "What's involved with it?" or something, I'm not entirely sure, but it's all good.

I have every bit as much respect for prostitutes as I do for many/most "mainstream" occupations, and don't let anybody kid you into thinking that it's easy and fun. If one is to be good at this, and unless that person is über-versatile, a prostitute is going to deal with situations, fetishes, etc. which may be profoundly uncomfortable. And, not only DEAL with it, but in such a way that the client doesn't become uncomfortable because the sex worker can't 100% deal with the request. This is a very special skill, way over and above the obvious things such as "being a fantastic cocksucker" etc.

Absolutely, I am entirely for it being legal, even to the degree that I'd like to see it NOT taxed, but I don't think that will ever happen.
