Why did our government lie about the attack in Lybia? They claimed it was a protest, then days later the truth emerged that it was a skillfully planned terrorist attack.
Do they not know something like this can't be hidden?

Maybe they THOUGHT it was a protest at the time, and they didn't get all the facts until later? I mean, if they knew it was a skillfully planned terrorist attack before it happened, they probably could've stopped it.
I'm not saying the government doesn't lie - I just don't think they're lying just to lie.

All governments lie ... about everything ... all the time.
They certainly do when it behooves them to do so. But it doesn't always behoove them to do so.
Lex
Because they have the power to do so and get away with it.
In many cases, because they feel they're expected to know what's going on,so they go with a good story rather than wait for the facts.
"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "![]()

Give a man religion, and he'll starve praying for a fish.
Because governments are run by people, and people lie naturally. Sure there are things they lie about because they're stupid, but I wouldn't expect them to not lie about things.
LOL! And they say that there are no government conspiracies. Bwaa haa haa!!!!!!!!!!!

exactly, that's what cracks me up. whenever someone gets skeptical or questions whatever the government says or does, people think they're crazy or have something wrong with them but yet they agree that the government does in fact lie about things.if they believe that the government does in fact lie, then they would have to agree that the government can't be trusted therefore putting its credibility in question. so all these people clowning government conspiracies but at the same time saying "i believe the government lies from time to time"...

I don't believe they lied. Why is it inconceivable for you that at the time they thought it was just protest gone violent and then after further investigations they found out it was a terrorist attack?
Let me ask you this. Suppose I ask you tell me now what is 340586 x 32? Tell me now, don't use a calculator. Suppose you tell me now that you don't know. Then later on you use a calculator and figured out the answer, does this mean you lied when you said you don't know?
By the way, people who say government lies all the time on everything are lazy thinkers. I'm not saying they don't lie. But trying to use a smart-ass comment to define our government like that is lazy thinking. You guys should go join the tea party.
There are no WMD in Lybia
With knee-jerk journalism on some media outlets, the government may not want the incident to be fanned out of proportions before it can devise a way of containing the situation. At this stage in the Iraq and Afghanistan withdrawal policy, sending the US troops into Libya for a new war is irresponsible, both to the army and to the tax paying public.
Lies are probably so it gives them time to sort their shit out. Now it's changing its mind on telling the truth, perhaps they've lined something else up as a reaction to the killings...
Humans lie. Governments shouldn't.![]()

For the very same reason that fire burns.

Because to be lied to we crave.

Our nation's founders never intended for professional politicians to exist. They intended political offices to be held by ordinary Americans like you and me who would serve for a few years and then go back to their previous professions. Unfortunately, once professional politicians came into the scene, ordinary Americans like you and me haven't got a prayer.
Why not elect good honest people into the government? Because there are too many dumbasses out there. All a politician has to do to get elected by these dumbasses is say they believe in the judeo christian god and science is the work of the devil. Oh, and say things like legitimate rape on national television.
The only way in hell good honest people can get elected on a regular basis is if the nation's average IQ goes up by like 40 points. In the mean time, we just need to work with what we have (which I admit is just shit regardless of how you look at it).
I've gone through this... there have been lies by the government, but crazy conspiracy theories carry very little weight. I've thoroughly discredited the 9/11 conspiracy theories. The government can't keep a secret though... they can't even keep state department cables a secret... there are always leaks.
The attempt at discrediting those who disagree with the conspiracy theory bullsh*t is a nice try... but fails completely.
But in this case there is no lie. It could have appeared to be a protest... the whole disturbance was probably planned as a cover for the attack itself.

Government conspiracies are for lazy thinkers... as has been said.
And people lie to others all the time.. stop trying to change human nature. We aren't robots. But in this case there was no lie and I demand to see proof where there was. And if one is demanding that politicians never lie, they better do the same in their life to people around them... if they don't... HYPOCRISY.
Because you don't know what you don't know. You only know what you know at the time and you present the facts as they are revealed. That is not lying. Don't blame the government for not having ESP. When things happen very fast and 5000 miles away it takes a while to sort everything out. I'd much rather have that than a knee-jerk reaction based on few facts which could do serious harm. Now I'm not saying the government never lies but I am willing to accept this explanation in this case. If it turns out to be wrong however we the people need to hold them accountable.

Government lies because people cant handle the truth, that there is no 'American Dream' just an American scheme to ship your job overseas, work you to death, and steal your retirement and home so that Mitt Romney and his greedy cronies can keep stealing your future from you.
Because because because because because.
