House Rep "Slavery was a blessing,in disguise";"Integration made white people dumber and lazier."

    Girls, tea.

“… the institution of slavery that the black race has long believed to be an abomination upon its people may actually have been a blessing in disguise. The blacks who could endure those conditions and circumstances would someday be rewarded with citizenship in the greatest nation ever established upon the face of the Earth.”

The rest of what he said -

Now Arkansas, you didn’t think we forgot about you, did you? We know, sometimes it’s hard to compete in the news cycle, what with Minnesota Republicans campaigning in liberal synagogues on Yom Kippur and Texas Representatives telling Pakistani-American law students to go back to Afghanistan.

But guess what, Arkansas? Today is your day!! Because one of your state representatives, Jon Hubbard (R-Jonesboro), has written a veritable treasure trove of derp-nuggets. And then after Hubbard wrote all those derp-nuggets, he set them down, took a deep breath, read them over again with a clear head, and decided “yes, this is exactly what I want to say; this is brilliant,” and then he sent them off to a publisher, had them bound into a book, and began selling it on Amazon. It’s called Letters to the Editor: Confessions of a Frustrated Conservative. Let’s have a look!

Derp Nugget #1: Slavery was actually a blessing for black people.

“… the institution of slavery that the black race has long believed to be an abomination upon its people may actually have been a blessing in disguise. The blacks who could endure those conditions and circumstances would someday be rewarded with citizenship in the greatest nation ever established upon the face of the Earth.” (Pages 183-89)
Derp Nugget #2: Wouldn’t it be great if black people stopped being so ignorant all the time?

"Wouldn’t life for blacks in America today be more enjoyable and successful if they would only learn to appreciate the value of a good education?” (Page 184)

Derp Nugget #3: Integration made white people dumber and lazier.

“… one of the stated purposes of school integration was to bring black students up to a level close to that of white students. But, to the great disappointment of everyone, the results of this theory worked exactly in reverse of its intended purpose, and instead of black students rising to the educational levels previously attained by white students, the white students dropped to the level of black students. To make matters worse the lack of discipline and ambition of black students soon became shared by their white classmates, and our educational system has been in a steady decline ever since.” (Page 27)
Derp Nugget #4: If only black people would be more inclusive and contribute to society.

“… will it ever become possible for black people in the United States of America to firmly establish themselves as inclusive and contributing members of society within this country?” (Page 187) [Dolt Ed. Note: Totally!! We can't think of a single black person who has contributed to American society.]

Derp Nugget #5: Immigration will lead to “extermination”:

..the immigration issue, both legal and illegal… will lead to planned wars or extermination. Although now this seems to be barbaric and uncivilized, it will at some point become as necessary as eating and breathing.” (Page 9)
Derp Nugget #6: WTF is this supposed to mean????

“American Christians are assuming a similar stance as did the citizens of Germany during Hitler’s rise to power.” (Page 158)

I don't even know where to begin. It's just....it's so......I just can't comprehend anyone even thinking thoughts like those. And to think he's an elected official. What does that say about his constituency? I'm thoroughly disgusted.

When I created a similar thread (out of astonishment and disbelief at such nauseous side-effect of freedom of speech) it got closed within minutes... for baiting... presumably (for I was never told why exactly... and ironically).

Ignorance is alive and well to the surprise of no one. It's only logical to expect that with the capacity of humans to be intelligent and thoughtful, that we would see the opposite as well. At least his 'colors' are evident and people can know what to expect of him.

This man is an ignorant fool. I encountered many like him when I worked for a school district in Kansas. Completely out of touch with reality, only thinking emotionally and driven by religion-inspired fear and intolerance. It amazes me that we, as a species, appear to be devolving, rather than evolving into more enlightened beings. This kind of idiocy should not be tolerated in an elected official. He needs to be fired/impeached/let-go and relegated to something more suited to his level of intelligence, such as being a greeter at a Wal-mart store.

am i supposed to be surprised or outraged? you think he's the only person that has said that or thinks that way? you're in for a rude awakening. everyone is prejudiced to some shape or degree myself included. there are some prejudices that are harmless like preferring blue cupcakes over red and there's some that are harmful like racism. as fucked up as it sounds, i've grown to accept that prejudice is a part of human nature. it doesn't mean that i have to tolerate it, can't speak out about it or diss the people that are like that douchebag but there's really nothing you can do to combat about that. as long as there's humans on the planet, they'll be prejudices around. you won't know what love is if there was no hate.

hell, i don't even have a problem with people hating, being prejudiced, whether they hate fat people, homophobic, racist, sexist, and etc because that's just what people are going to do. i DO have a problem when people feel the need to express their feelings out in the open whether it be through words or action in order to hurt people like this idiot. you don't have to like me because i'm black or whatever the case may be but as long as you don't affect my livelihood where i can't survive, are trying to make things hard for me where i can't put food in my mouth, make money, are hurting me in some shape or form, then there's no issue.

We are seeing the true face of the Republican Party. Normally they keep it behind closed doors and present a carefully calculated image, especially during an election season. We just happened to get a glimpse behind those doors.

just playing devil's advocate, but personally, I think I'd rather be living as the descendant of slaves in the US than stuck in a slum in Somalia.

although, it's a hard hypothetical since, if the slave trade to the colonies never existed, none of their descendants would exist. given the choice between never existing at all versus existing as the descendent of slave, I think I'd choose the one that still gets me created... and of course, the slave trade not existing wouldn't have guaranteed their freedom since slavery was prevalent in Africa (and Europe) before the trans-Atlantic slave trade, and it continues to exist today.

Bullshit. The main difference between the Democrats and the Republicans is that the Republicans don't bother pretending they care. There are plenty of hardcore racist Democrats, even those who get elected to office. They're just astute enough to know that letting their racism show will probably end their political careers for that side. They'll gladly take their money and votes, but don't ask them to eat dinner with you...

There are TWO in the Great State of Arkansas. And, no, the Arkansas State GOP is NOT happy with them.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas Republicans tried to distance themselves Saturday from a Republican state representative's assertion that slavery was a "blessing in disguise" and a Republican state House candidate who advocates deporting all Muslims.

The claims were made in books written, respectively, by Rep. Jon Hubbard of Jonesboro and House candidate Charlie Fuqua of Batesville. Those books received attention on Internet news sites Friday.

On Saturday, state GOP Chairman Doyle Webb called the books "highly offensive." And U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford, a Republican who represents northeast Arkansas, called the writings "divisive and racially inflammatory."

Hubbard wrote in his 2009 self-published book, "Letters To The Editor: Confessions Of A Frustrated Conservative," that "the institution of slavery that the black race has long believed to be an abomination upon its people may actually have been a blessing in disguise." He also wrote that African-Americans were better off than they would have been had they not been captured and shipped to the United States.

Fuqua, who served in the Arkansas House from 1996 to 1998, wrote there is "no solution to the Muslim problem short of expelling all followers of the religion from the United States," in his 2012 book, titled "God's Law."

Fuqua said Saturday that he hadn't realized he'd become a target within his own party, which he said surprised him.

"I think my views are fairly well-accepted by most people," Fuqua said before hanging up, saying he was busy knocking on voters' doors. The attorney is running against incumbent Democratic Rep. James McLean in House District 63.

Hubbard, a marketing representative, didn't return voicemail messages seeking comment Saturday. He is running against Democrat Harold Copenhaver in House District 58.

The November elections could be a crucial turning point in Arkansas politics. Democrats hold narrow majorities in both chambers, but the GOP has been working hard to swing the Legislature its way for the first time since the end of the Civil War, buoyed by picking up three congressional seats in 2010. Their efforts have also been backed by an influx of money from national conservative groups.

Rep. Crawford said Saturday he was "disappointed and disturbed."

"The statements that have been reported portray attitudes and beliefs that would return our state and country to a harmful and regrettable past," Crawford said.

U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin, R-Ark., kicked off the GOP's response Saturday by issuing a release, saying the "statements of Hubbard and Fuqua are ridiculous, outrageous and have no place in the civil discourse of either party."

"Had I known of these statements, I would not have contributed to their campaigns. I am requesting that they give my contributions to charity," said Griffin, who donated $100 to each candidate.

The Arkansas Republican House Caucus followed, saying the views of Hubbard and Fuqua "are in no way reflective of, or endorsed by, the Republican caucus. The constituencies they are seeking to represent will ultimately judge these statements at the ballot box."

Then Webb, who has spearheaded the party's attempt to control the Legislature, said the writings "were highly offensive to many Americans and do not reflect the viewpoints of the Republican Party of Arkansas. While we respect their right to freedom of expression and thought, we strongly disagree with those ideas."

Webb, though, accused state Democrats of using the issue as a distraction.

Democrats themselves have been largely silent, aside from the state party's tweet and Facebook post calling attention to the writings. A Democratic Party spokesman didn't immediately return a call for comment Saturday.

The two candidates share other political and religious views on their campaign websites.

Hubbard, who sponsored a failed bill in 2011 that would have severely restricted immigration, wrote on his website that the issue is still among his priorities, as is doing "whatever I can to defend, protect and preserve our Christian heritage."

Fuqua blogs on his website. One post is titled, "Christianity in Retreat," and says "there is a strange alliance between the liberal left and the Muslim religion."

"Both are antichrist in that they both deny that Jesus is God in the flesh of man, and the savior of mankind. They both also hold that their cause should take over the entire world through violent, bloody, revolution," the post says.

In a separate passage, Fuqua wrote "we now have a president that has a well documented history with both the Muslim religion and Communism."

This from two members of the Party of Lincoln.
I find the Chastisement of the Democrat relative silence on the matter from the Republican leadership interesting - one might think that not touting it up, and letting the Republican leadership handle the condemnations would be considered statemanly - not playing the story for "cheap points" at every turn.

It's people like these two who keep the reputation of certain states so so bad. And there are lots of people in the states who would and do sorely disagree.

As to the post above about a suitable job, like "Greeter at Walmart" - I don't think so.

    Maybe as a honey dipper.

The "religious right" - yeah, that's it. Makes me sick.

So much for the party of Lincoln, the big tent and party of inclusion. PS are you related to Todd Akin?

Don't get me started. I'm trying to stay "enlightened" and not let my baser instincts out - it wouldn't be pretty, and I don't want to get banned.

    DF,
It's really not THAT much text to read. I try not to bias articles when I share, or at least not too much.

Yahoo inserted more text in lieu of the pics than I realized, which makes it a bit more confusing.
