How can fun. be considered a new artist? They've been recording/releasing since 2009!

Frank Ocean! I hope he sweeps everything. To be honest looking at this nomination list 2012 was a pretty weak year for music.

The official guidelines for Best New Artist are as follows: "For a new artist who releases, during the Eligibility Year, the first recording which establishes the public identity of that artist." Note that this is not necessarily the first album released by an artist. Since fun. just released Some Nights this year, they are eligible. This would also explain why Maroon 5 won the award after being out for a while.

    As for the major awards,

Record of the Year - Stronger
Album of the Year - Some Nights (fun.)
Song of the Year - Stronger
    Best New Artist - fun.

    Those are my picks.

To be honest I'm not feeling any of the nominations. Unless Gaga/Adele or someone important is performing, I'll be tuning out.

I hope Fun wins at least one of these nominations

"Call me maybe" song of the year?
"We are never gonna get together" record of the year?

I thought the popularity stuff was out of this event. To be honest, these songs are the typical teen pop singles. I like them but...cmon

Glad that Justin Bieber was out of the Grammies nominations

burst of additional performers for next month's Grammy Awards was announced Thursday morning, with current nominees Carrie Underwood, the Lumineers and Jack White set to take the Staples Center stage on Feb. 10.

In addition, there will be duets featuring song of the year nominee Ed Sheeran and six-time Grammy winner Elton John, as well as a pairing-up of country hitmakers Dierks Bentley and Miranda Lambert. Bentley has a nomination for best county solo performance this year while his duet partner is up for best country album, for "Four the Record."

They join previously announced performers The Black Keys, fun., Mumford & Sons, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift.

White, a nine-time Grammy winner, has three nominations this year: album of the year, best rock album ("Blunderbuss") and best rock song ("Freedom at 21"). Folk-rockers the Lumineers are up for best new artist and best Americana album for their self-titled debut. Such a good performances lineup! Well, except for Taylor Swift. I could not care less about her.

But Elton John?! How freaking awesome is that? I can't wait to see him.

Also, I am excited about what The Lumineers are going to come up with for their performance. They were really, really good on SNL. I was really impressed.

Justin Timberlake to perform at the Grammy Awards

The Grammy Awards still have the ability to surprise. The Recording Academy unveiled this morning that Justin Timberlake will perform on the Feb. 10 telecast, his first musical appearance in support of his first new solo material since 2006.

Timberlake, a six time Grammy winner and two-time nominee for album of the year, will release "The 20/20 Experience" on March 19. Still a mystery -- for now, at least -- is whether Timberlake will use the Grammys to unveil a new song, or perform his recently released "Suit & Tie," his retro-minded soul single that features an assist from Jay-Z.

The Grammy Awards will air live except for the West Coast on CBS. Timberlake's "Suit & Tie" was at No. 4 last week on the U.S. pop charts, and has thus far sold 315,000 downloads in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Timberlake, in his relatively short career, has a long history with the Grammys. In 2009, He was asked to host the telecast (he declined), but he did perform that year with Al Green. The two staged a last-minute take of Green's "Let's Stay Together," a performance added after the Chris Brown assault on Rihanna forced the two off the Grammy broadcast.

The Timberlake performance is a big coup for the Recording Academy. There's no shortage of star power slated to perform at this year's Grammy Awards, with the likes of Taylor Swift, Jack White, Rihanna, Carrie Underwood and the Black Keys among those on the roster, but an appearance by Timberlake is tantamount to an award show event, as it gives the Grammys a performance from an artist who hasn't recently appeared elsewhere on television.

The 2012 Grammy telecast drew 40 million people -- its second-biggest audience ever behind the 1984 telecast that saw Michael Jackson sweep the awards. Yet interest last year was buoyed by preshow drama that can't be replicated, as viewers tuned in to see how artists would respond to the sudden passing of Whitney Houston a day earlier as well as to witness Adele's return to the stage after vocal surgery.

Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Sting to Join Forces for Grammys Performance

Kelly Clarkson also confirmed to perform on Feb. 10; Beyoncť, Prince and others added to presenters list

With the 55th annual Grammy Awards less than a week away, another performance has been confirmed, and it's of the all-star collaboration variety.

Bruno Mars will take the stage along with Rihanna and Sting for a special performance, the Grammys announced Feb. 4. The awards show also added Kelly Clarkson to the list, apparently performing in a separate routine.

As for the Mars-Rihanna-Sting, collab, no details have been given, though Mars has admitted that his smash hit "Locked Out of Heaven" was influenced by Sting and the Police. Could this be what viewers are in store for, with Rihanna somehow fitting in?

The Grammys also announced several presenters for the show: sixteen-time winner and current nominee Beyoncť, nominee Hunter Hayes, Jennifer Lopez, actor Pauley Perrette, and recent Billboard cover star Prince.

Others already confirmed for performances on Grammy night include Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, the Black Keys, Maroon 5, and Elton John, along with nominee Ed Sheeran.

The Grammys will air Sunday, Feb. 10 from Los Angeles' Staples Center on CBS from 8 to 11:30 (EST).

CBS Sent the Grammys’ Producers a Memo to Make Sure Everyone Wears Clothes

Apparently CBS is still on high alert about nudity nearly ten years after Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction. The latest in their constant crackdown is the completely nuts "Wardrobe Advisory" memo they sent the Grammys. It includes lines like "Thong type costumes are problematic" and "Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack." Come on, CBS — don't you know that Justin Timberlake is performing and America has missed his buttocks' fleshy under-curves? Read the full note below and accept that you won't see "female breast nipples" Sunday night.

    Date: February 5, 2013, 10:39:56 PM EST

Subject: 55th GRAMMYS: Standard And Practice Wardrobe Advisory
-kindly confirm receipt of s&p standards-

    ***GRAMMYS 2013***

CBS Program Practices advises that all talent appearing on camera please adhere to Network policy concerning wardrobe.
Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered. Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic. Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could possibly expose female breast nipples. Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible “puffy” bare skin exposure. Please avoid commercial identification of actual brand name products on T-shirts. Foreign language on wardrobe will need to be cleared. OBSCENITY OR PARTIALLY SEEN OBSCENITY ON WARDROBE IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR BROADCAST. This as well, pertains to audience members that appear on camera. Finally, The Network requests that any organized cause visibly spelled out on talent’s wardrobe be avoided. This would include lapel pins or any other form of accessory.
