Republican Congressman Claims Someone Broke Into His Office and Installed Linux
A Republican congressman from New York, Michael Grimm, claimed yesterday that someone broke into his office on Staten Island and installed Linux on a server computer. This wiped out sensitive polling and voter information, he claimed. Grimm called the incident "politically motivated" and described it as "an assault on democracy." He compared it to the 2011 shooting of Arizona congresswoman Gabby Giffords.
"...one officer said to me today they see this as a crime against the government,
because I am a sitting United States congressman and
they take it very seriously. You know, especially
in light of what happened with Gabby Giffords, we're not in the world today where we can shrug things off."
Unfortunately for the congressman, police say his claims are not true. Computer forensics experts have looked at Mr. Grimm's computers, and report that they are untouched. In fact, police say there is no evidence anyone was ever actually inside the congressman's office. What happened was that an eighth-grader threw a chunk of concrete through one of the congressman's office windows, in an act of vandalism.
The eighth-grader, who has not been named because of his age, admitted his act to a counselor at his school. He said that he and a friend had committed the vandalism over the weekend. No motivation was given.
Grimm's office has not responded to queries from the media as to how he could have believed that Linux had been installed on at least one of his computers, when no such incident occurred.
Grimm is currently under investigation by the FBI for possible illegal donations during his 2010 campaign.

I wish someone would break in and sort out the mess on my old laptop. That WinXP ran like a donkey trudging through mud.
