i never thought of lucian freud, who claimed to have sired 40+ children, as homoerotic. his images are certainly arresting, and he is to be commended for his unappealing subject matter, but they've never done anything for me 'downtown'.

Now I'm posting Egon Schiele it's maybe time to try to give some explanation from my side (btw, thank you for your comment PhunkSpunk. It makes me think over again what I'm doing):
I've got a preference for naked men or the suggestion of them, explicit or not and maybe that's my limited/simple feel for art, kitsch, farty arty or whatever.
If a painter is gay but only painting red roses, it's not interesting for me.
And indeed some artists make the male beauty ugly, but I think that could be sometimes fascinating too.

But otherwise please still feel free to add your contributions or opinions too.

Ciinro, the thing I love about Freud is that his subjects are often in decrepit states. Recalling the great Lorenz Hart lyric, their figures are "less than Greek". But nonetheless they do have a strong sensuality to them, if not outright eroticism. Sagging breasts, etc, are, among other things, a great opportunities for studies in light and shading, and Freud is arguably the painter of light since Cezanne. He's a painter's painter: is brushwork is breathtaking.
