I hate this overly-hyped up song and MV.
I really don't see anything special about it. At all.
Balls to the walls hella fuckin awesome.
How sad that this song managed to get into a local radio station when there are better artists and songs from South Korea.
I don't give a crap about the song. But I think it's interesting that a hit with such momentum is coming from this corner of the world.
Is something actually happening popularly with our sense of what's foreign?!
The language sung and the people in the video is the only thing foreign IMO. I could hear similar songs like this in any club or MTV.
I think most people enjoy the song and video just for comedic reasons. Not because the song is actually any good. I could be wrong though.
Balls to the walls hella fuckin awesome.
I finally give in and watched it. Had been trying to avoid it as my freinds keep talking about it lol. The ice rink near my place even has a competition for it with money as reward.
while I agree with the notion that Americans are esp taken with this video because of the absurd, wonky Asian thing, I feel like the lyrics are not given enough credit in this thread
sure the beat is pretty standard but I think the social commentary is pretty interesting
I mean its a hell of lot more interesting than lyrics from say the wonder girls which always seems just be written in second person and telling some guy about how they're meant to be loved.
I found this when it was only 10k views and loved it since. The fact that the guy doesn't fit the typical Korean male pop artist and seems to exude confidence makes this song a whole lot better.
It's a fun song and video to watch. There's no need to be judgmental over a song that's brought a lot of smiles to millions of people.
The guy in the yellow suit is hilarious.

This song is blowing up in the United States! I even heard it on the local Top 40 radio station.
Apparently "Gangnam" refers to a really wealthy neighborhood in Seoul, South Korea. I don't understand Korean, but apparently the song is supposed to be about him singing about a girl who is nice and sweet by day, but wild & a party girl at night.
i think this is a disservice to the cause of worldwide (well US) recognition of Asian music by relegating it to token novelty.
Jeremy Lin's stellar showing and popularity has improved perception of Asians (particularly Asian male and sexuality)
Psy reinforces the William Hung-esque absurdity ( same as that real life doctor turned side kick comic token Asian actor in the hangover )
^what do you mean absurdity?
PSY showed exactly what Asian men are. They have humor, self-confidence, and a different definition of masculinity. I don't want him to invade USA with the typical "attributes" of a masculine men. Those are for white-obsessed men.
If people misinterpret his joyous tune and attitude in the music video as "asian being weird and crazy" .so be it.
I said Asians and you said Korean celebs?
You can't use celebrities as a mean to measure what the majority of people are like. Celebs are like the 1%
Read this article today. Thought some people on here might be interested since it's subject has already been brought in the thread.
PSY And The Acceptable Asian Man
Pretty interesting.
So this song is literally dominating the world right now.

I don't really get it but all my friends are so into it. I guess it's okay but I don't get people's fascination with the song
I find the girl in the train oddly pretty thoughBut don't really see the big deal with the song.
Thoughts?

No, no it is not that time. It will never be that time!
I put it on the TV with my boyfriend and we try to copy the whole routine
xD
theres a thread dedicated to this in the entertainment section though lol
yea the girl in the train is hyunah. she used to be in a girl group called wonder girls...and then a girl group called 4 minute...she does some solo stuff too
Her song, "Bubble Pop!" is pretty catchy as well
I heard this song for the first time on the radio. Only I guess it was an edit, because when it's supposed to say Gangnam Style, it says Orlando Style.
Oh, Florida.
I refuse to let my ears experience what is sure to be an aural holocaust. I'm still pissed I happened upon a station playing Call Me Maybe. I could have done without hearing that.
Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day.
Give a man religion, and he'll starve praying for a fish.
I do this often and have tried to get others to join in. Most comply. Its cute.
pop culture phenom that will be his 1 hit wonder.....sad that usa only takes notice to make fun of it....he'll be forgotten soon
My brother showed this to me earlier. I don't get the fascination with it neither.
It's the Macarena of our time, imo.

Navy Gangnam Style
That song is absolutely not my usual type of music but I love it. Just f*cking hilarious.
You don´t have a soul. You are a soul. What you have is a body.
not sure why you feel the need to start another thread on this when we've had one for 3 weks!

I find the Korean original version weird to say the least, I think it is popular because it is comedic and it went viral.
As for the Navy version, that's hot, some nice floppage around the 23 second mark, I did not see any black guys in the Navy video, is it because these are all officers? I am assuming they are officers by their uniforms.
Oh yes, this version is much preferable! Strong, healthy thighs and pert pelvic action! I'm inclined to play it agin with the sound turned off.![]()

I am at work so I did not have the speakers on so I was spared the actual "music" but my eyes feasted!
I like it because its a catchy tune, has a fun dance and movie to watch, and it isn't in English, so it adds to the comedic factor of trying to figure out wth is going on.
Also, the article thatgirl posted was pretty interesting. I have to agree that he is very non-threatening like other asian pop stars seem to be. He doesn't look like he is trying to hard, and being a solo artist helps 100%
Dream as if you will live forever. Live as if you will die today.
It hit #1 in Canada.

^#2 in the US, probably #1 next week I don't see anything stopping it
I don't understand the popularity of the original but certainty appreciated the Navy version. HOT!!
For all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest are these, 'It might have been.'
It has got to be EXCEPTIONALLY rare, that a single from outside of the UK/US/Australia hits no1 in the UK music charts. This song from South Korea has gone down a storm.
If it didn't include the 'heeeeeeeey, sexy lady' lyric, possibly wouldn't have. Very refreshing though.
Warwickshire Born 'n' Bred.
I've heard this song on the radio all the time but didn't know who and what the song was about.
I thought he sang "gamga star ..." ? what ever that means.
Over 330 million views. I'm impressed.

This is treated in another thread.
