Do you need to take a break to move forward?

Many times during practicing piano, when somehow I'm not improving after hours of practice if not declining, I have to stop. Then I do not practice for a day or two and somehow everything becomes smoother and easier for me, as if I had had a burnout before.

Then I notice that I almost always do the same thing to everything else: learning how to drive, working on a written assignment, playing puzzle/card games, answering essay questions during exams, etc etc etc.

Is there any of you who do the same thing?
come now, my child. if we were planning to harm you, do you think
we'd be lurking here beside the path in the darkest part of the forest?

Sex. I just can't keep going and going and going. Have to take a nap for a few hours before orgasm again.

That's with me too. Sometime just pushing on just makes you even more frustrated and more likely to not improve as much as you'd intend

I do something similar when making decisions. I find if I sleep on it, I have a clearer perspective in the morning and not always the one I made the day before. Sometimes our brains can be on overload and we need to stop thinking about things for awhile.
Everyone wants to be heard. No one wants to listen.

Re: Do you need to take a break to move forward?

For piano, after the first 3 hours, it becomes rote. When I was still in uni, I would do 2.5 hours in the morning, 2 in the afternoon, and 2.5 at night, all in between my classes, anything more than that is ineffective.

On the other hand, when I wrote papers, I'd barrel through the whole thing even if it was a 30 pager or something like that. My hyperfocus turns on and I write better if there's a time-crunch.
