    Life Of Pi

Based upon the best-selling novel by Yann Martel, 'Life Of Pi' tells the story of a young man's incredible survival at sea against impossible odds. A remarkable technological breakthrough in 3D epic adventure, Pi is an emotionally captivating experience that will inspire, touch and transport audiences to a place of discovery that they will never forget.

From Academy Award Winning Director Ang Lee, comes 'Life Of Pi', starring Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan and Tobey Maguire, this December in theatres near you.

Wow. The trailer looks absolutely stunning.

Life of Pi is such a fascinating book. Cannot wait to see how they bring it to life. David Magee is adapting the novel and I have seen the other two films he wrote - Finding Neverland which is one of my very favourite films, and Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day which was also wonderful.

    High hopes.

What can exciting year for film this has been!!

I loved the novel and am curious to see how it adapts to the screen as well. It's fresh and I'm interested in just about any big budget film that isn't more regurgitation.

The trailer is scintillating. If its bright, magical tone carries over to the whole of the film itself I think I may be a little taken aback, though. I don't think the book is quite so adventuresome. It's meat is made of real and grueling desperation. I want that part.

I am not sure if you dug into the story as much as I did afterwards, but the naming of the tiger in the book is absolute genius.

Check it out. Just wiki the name, or google it.

    So interesting.

I hadn't read about that, neat. (But if you haven't read the book, folks, beware possible wiki-spoilers.)

It's very odd trying to comprehend this sort of thing about the publishing industry, too:

The novel was rejected by at least five London publishing houses[1] before being accepted by Knopf Canada, which published it in September 2001.

I know publishers have meaningful rationales, but from the outside this sort of rejection is unfathomable.

Yes - it is unfathomable also that Pride and Prejudice was rejected for publication at one point in time also.

I read this book several years ago and unsurprisingly saw the ending from a mile away. I really don't understand the hype.

Not really. The author went to Trent University, which is embarrassing to put on anyone's resume. A lot of publishing houses, from my own experience, want a CV.

For me, rejecting a good novel on the basis of a middling resume is nonsense. I'm not reading the CV.

The history of literature is full of these sorts of weird decisions, from James Joyce to John Kennedy Toole.

Oh, I don't disagree! A good book is a good book regardless of whatever the author has accomplished in their life, but what you've achieved is frequently examined.

A bit surprised nobody is discussing this movie. Probably my favourite of all the 2012 release. Saw it three times already. Great visuals, the 3D use was AMAZING, even better than Avatar. Story wise Ang Lee stayed quite faithful to the book but put a few twists on certain things. Really wished it had done better in the states when it comes to box office, but it`s pulling great numbers in pretty much else where in the world. So quite successful in general so far.

For people who disliked the book on here, yo should really give the movie a shot. I have friends who hated the book as well, who got dragged to see the movie by me. And all of them ended up at least liking it somewhat. This movie really needs to be seen in 3d on a big screen and it would not be the same watching it later on DVD/Bluray.

He had spend last four years working on this movie. And it paid off.

Congrats to Lee and the whole team for getting 11 oscar noms! Really great news.

Hopefully this will push the US box office past 100 million soon.

This is going to be utterly superb - the novel is one of the most beautifully tragic and ingenious books I've ever read, and by the looks of it, this adaptation is nothing short of excellent. Now I can't wait to see it!

Interesting. I had a more positive reaction. I thought the movie was excellent.
I'm pretty tired of the 3D craze, especially wearing those stupid glasses over my own glasses, lol. But in this case I thought it was the best use of 3D in a movie I've seen yet.

Agreed. Many critics said this is the best 3D use in a movie they had ever seen. That flying fish scene, oh my gosh.

Both Thor (2011) and Prometheus (2012) had better 3D.

    OH.MY.GOD.

Thor was converted to 3D in post-production. A typical money grab move by the studio. Prometheus on the other hand I give you that one. Pretty good 3D use.

It was still more enjoyable for me than the 3D in Life of Pi. Maybe it was because fast fluttering creatures don't work well for me in 3D and there was the humming bird and the flying fish in Life of Pi.
