Lazaro was very flat last night. I'm still a fan and would love to fuck his little brains out and I'm sure his fans will keep him there (he has the most Twitter followers of any alumni this season), but he needs to step it up big time. Hometown girl Amber did well, though. I don't know if it was Whitney-esque as Nicki mentioned, but it was still good nonetheless.

I don't know if I like that they're revealing the full voting results. It just seems like a ploy to keep the fanbases of the chosen ones from getting too complacent.

Seems my hunch that Lazaro had the best chance to win out of the guys was correct, though.

seeing that adolescent hormonally driven teen girls often decide the final outcome of the show, isnt having not so manly male contestants weaken the possibility of another male winner this year?

I think 4 out of the five guys are gay. Curtis got sent home so that leaves 3 out of 4.

I don't like the way they are doing results either. I don't read blogs or twitter or do Facebook so I don't keep up - and since any one person can cast as many as 50 votes by app gives a lot of power to any group that decides to throw a wrench or a bouquet of roses to any contestant.

Not as committed as yet to the show since only Burnell moves me in any way at all. Jolley I listened to without looking at him because I see plexiglass every time I look at him. He sounded good though. Lazaro, though he has a good voice, seems like he is on the verge of a breakdown any time he has to speak at any length - like when Keith asked him after his song why he chose the song and he looked pale and nervous.

When Candice walked on stage to do her song she was as confident as any singer I have ever seen and she totally hit all the right spots in the right way. I was not as bowled over by Amber as the judges wanted me to be.
I think you mistake me for someone who cares.

Lazaro is the number one male singer this week! So pumped. He wasn't actually even good this week. Glad Curtis went home. I just wasn't feeling that.

Lazaro can't sing for shit, but he IS a fuckable white guy, so naturally he placed first among the guys. If it weren't for his stuttering, he'd probably be beating the girls too.

They had a ton of gay guys this season. Well, this is the only full season I ever watched before but still seemed like a lot to me lol. I didn't give Curtis any votes because his last performances weren't good and he should have auditioned for BET's Sunday Best, a gospel competition. The top picks were my top picks too. I like Devon the most out of the guys even though his last performance wasn't great. I love his voice. Kree, Candice and Amber are my favorites out of the girls.

My mistake. I meant to say fuckable non-black guy (since fuckable black guys don't go far on this show either). Next week is Beatles week which means you know Lazaro is doing "Imagine."

Ouch, not much buzz for AI this season. That's understandable. Still enjoyable I think. This season definitely is going to a girl. I think (hope) Kree and Candice will be the final two. They are both so naturally talented and confident. Paul Jollie leaving this week was the correct choice. Lazarro's time is coming sadly too. He just lacks the consistent talent and confidence required. But still nice to see him make it this far. I'm so sick of Jimmy, way too much airtime. He does not need to be a regular fixture each week. His advice is always way off and misguiding.

'American Idol' Ratings Dip, Big Brands Still Line Up

In the heyday of "American Idol," the notion that it could fall ratings victim to a zombie slugfest or standard crime drama would have been laughable.

That was then. With Fox's singing contest shedding about 20% of its audience so far this season to hit new lows, it's been leapfrogged repeatedly in total viewers by series including the CBS procedurals "Person of Interest" and "NCIS."

In a harsher blow to a blockbuster that once ruled the advertiser-adored young adult segment, "American Idol" has been overtaken this season by AMC's "The Walking Dead," despite the addition of glossy new "Idol" judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban.

But in its 12th season, "American Idol" is managing to hit the right notes with sponsors if not always with fickle viewers: It has retained its status as TV's advertising leader among series and the loyalty of its biggest backers, including Ford and Coca-Cola.

"It's still a top 10 show," said Brad Adgate of media-buying firm Horizon Media. "Compared to several years ago, it's not the ratings force it once was. ... But even if it loses 20 percent" again, it's still valuable to Fox.

And there's this confident prediction: When it comes to advertising dollars, the series "will have the top price for the 2012-13 season," said analyst Jon Swallen of Kantar Media. Last season, "American Idol" grossed a leading $836 million in ad revenue. But the trajectory inevitably is headed down.

At the start of the 2011-12 season, "American Idol" was collecting about $500,000 for a 30-second commercial on its Wednesday episodes, said analyst Deana Myers of SNL Kagan. That put it in an exclusive top tier, along with NBC's "Sunday Night Football."

By May 2012, when Phillip Phillips had been crowned the winner, the singing contest had posted its lowest-rated season since it debuted in summer 2002, and "Sunday Night Football" had snatched the No. 1 ratings spot away from singing contest for the first time since 2003.

The result: The current 2012-13 season began with prices cut to $340,000 per spot for the higher-rated Wednesday performance night episode, Myers said. (That figure that is expected to rise as the show heads toward its finale and, presumably, bigger audiences.)

It's true that growing cable competition and the fragile economy have made the broadcast ad market vulnerable. But by comparison, ABC's sitcom "Modern Family" saw its fortunes improve, with its rate of $250,000 per commercial for the 2011-12 season rising to $330,000 at this's season start.

Another test is coming in May. At the annual "upfronts" in New York, broadcast networks will gather billions of dollars in advertising commitments for the 2013-14 season based on their series' past and predicted viewership.

In its 13th year, will the "American Idol" share of that bonanza shrink as much as this year's ratings?

"You're going to see a significant drop" in May, said Deana Myers of SNL Kagan.

But "American Idol" can claim to be a winner for Fox despite its weakened condition. Yes, "Idol" is averaging about 15 million weekly viewers this year, compared to its 2006 peak of 30 million, according to Nielsen figures.

Yes, the audience's median age has jumped more than 18 years, to 50.4, from season one to last year - meaning that youth-obsessed Madison Avenue is facing consumers more likely to be eyeing retirement funds than a prom date.

And yes, the show's alumni include success stories Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson and Carrie Underwood, but more recent winners, such as Lee DeWyze and Phillips, have yet to prove themselves as stars in music, movies or elsewhere.

"Idol" also faces a crowded talent contest field and younger challengers like NBC's "The Voice."

A second, spring edition of that show debuted Monday night and was up 9 percent over its fall premiere with 13.4 million viewers.

But there is value yet to be found in the aging but still sturdy Fox show. Not many shows can draw weekly audiences of 10 million-plus today, given the splintered media world in which broadcast, cable, online amusements and video games clamor for consumer attention.

"American Idol" remains one of them and, given the challenge of keeping younger viewers from hopping to the next big thing, does a credible job of changing up its bells and whistles to keep the fickle engaged.

Reality-show touches, such as housing contestants together during filming, helped freshen the show. This season, exiting judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler were replaced as Carey, Minaj and Urban, pop stars with presumably younger fan bases, joined mainstay Randy Jackson.

The show's major sponsors appreciate what they are getting. Ford, AT&T and Coca-Cola all returned to the "Idol" fold this season despite the ratings slide. (None would comment on future advertising plans.)

"American Idol" has the right demographics for Ford, and the company's "longstanding collaboration with Fox remains a great thing for us," said Ford spokeswoman Marisa Bradley. "Idol" will help launch a new Ford Fiesta model that's "perfect for the younger generation," she said.

But keeping up appearances for that generation is costly, as the revamped judging panel showed: Fox and producer FremantleMedia North America agreed to pay close to $18 million to Carey, $12 million to Minaj and a reported $6 million take for Urban.

After the show's finale in May determines the fate of contestants, the upfronts will reveal what's in store for "American Idol" itself.

"What will the marketplace determine the value of `American Idol' to be?" said analyst Adgate. "That goes a long way to deciding, from a revenue perspective, what direction Fox wants to take the show," including production costs and the paycheck for judges. Then it's up to the prospective audience to vote.

Girl please. Even the producers are tired of you, which is why they had Jimmy call your ass out on your lame excuse last week. Look, you're hot and you have an affliction so just go take your rightful place on Glee and get your stuttering ass off the Idol stage already.

I hope that's sarcasm... all that's missing with his performances are lyrics to the song on the screen and a bouncing ball highlighting each lyric he sings because that's just what he does... karaoke. Devin leaving over Lazarro was a huge letdown, but Devin lacked that "oomph" to be the next idol so it was either he left now or later. However, I can't say the same about the remaining 6 (that's excluding Lazarro of course). If any of them leave before Lazarro I am boycotting this show entirely. The Voice is on though, with way more talent and hotter judges so that's fine.

Lazaro is surely going to outlast at least one of the girls. It'll be a reverse season eleven situation where all of the remaining girls are going to split each other's votes and allow the two remaining guys to keep slipping through. It's part of what helped Haley and Miss Piggy get to the final three in their year, since all of the other girls were eliminated in fast succession and the guy votes were spread thin across six contestants.

Lazaro has a nice face but he seems a little oddly shaped and it stands out more so with the 1 size too small out fits they like to dress everyone in. and he is not a great singer, average at best.

I am still in Burnell's corner but I know he won't last . I know there are Kree fans here but I just don't get electricity from her while I do feel Candice every time. She is a phenom.

All those tryouts and so few real great singers.... if Idol wants to stay relevant, concentrate less on bells, whistles and manufactured controversial judge placements and get back to contestants with talent with interesting backstories..or even boring people who can just sing the hell out of a song! The bestresult with be a top ten that anyone can be good enough to win the whole thing... instead of a pimped one or two and some decent if flawed singers who just serve for dramatic fodder. Enough ratings lost this year MIGHT help lead toward that direction,if the Idol producers are not completely full of themselves and don't value being part of a declining, increasingly irrelevant cultural relic.

For the guys especially, how can there be so many thousands of tryouts and so few standouts?

This season doesn't interest me at all. I don't like the "pre-fabricated" aspect of this season. It was obvious that the people who run the show (and maybe the judges too) were looking for a way to prevent another consecutive white guy from winning. And that's the only real reason a girl will win. The girls this year AREN'T particularly talented. There were girls in most of the previous seasons who were seriously amazing, and none of these girls would've stood a chance against them.

It appears as though Angie's going to win, but something tells me that Kree is actually the one who's gonna pull an upset and win.

Last week when Lazaro forgot his words, I didn't like it when Burnell said "This is a competition". Oh please, it's not like Burnell stands a chance to win. He's already been in the bottom 3, and he's one of the least likely to even come close to winning. Just for that snide remark, I hope Lazaro ends up making it past him.

Well, if fans could only vote once it would prevent all the slam voting for teen girl favorites,or the vote for the worst types. The problem with the show isn't guys winning but not enough interesting talents with great voices. The show should just stop marketing controversy and they will find the best controversy would be having so many potential winners it's HARD to whittle down.... great looks and backstories are fine if everyone out there really did have enough talent to make it conceivable they could go all the way. But I guess doing the logical thing is the last option if at all on the producers minds.

I can't believe Devin got sent home. He and Amber have the best voices to me. Candace is good too but I find Amber's voice more interesting.

I don't know why all the focus is on performing when it's what these artists create in the studio that makes them a star and gives them something to perform. That's what it all boils down to so I think they need to focus on actually recording songs on the show. It's hard for me to judge them because I try to imagine what an actual song from them would sound like. An artist doesn't have to be a perfect performer to make hit songs in the studio.

Actually they do make recordings of the songs and sell them online. You can buy anyone of the songs sung in the top ten on itunes or like places. A lot of the singers have had good success in past seasons on itunes without winning the show.

Burnell only said "I did what I was supposed to do." He didn't call out Lazaro. This is wrong in so many ways that Lazaro was is top 3. That's completely another planet with a different view of singing. Lazaro forgets words in a song and especially duets and and always blames something else. " I never heard the song before - the band was playing the wrong key - I didn't have enough time to practice." And he is a characture. Total bs. I knew that Burnell was going home and now you and I know one of the more talented girls will go before Lazaro. And if he ends up winning then good on the judges and the producers because he'll never sell. And how can those judges think that there are 3 girls more talented than Candace? That girl is stellar.
I think you mistake me for someone who cares.

    Re: 'American Idol' Season 12

I thought I would be watching this season but I'm over this show after randomly turning in and seeing the Rock n Roll fail night. At this point, if you're a dedicated viewer of this show you kind of look like one of those people playing the violin when the Titanic was going down. At least that's how I see it. And I'm not trying to insult any of the viewers. Just an opinion.

Idol once commanded a massive audience and dedicated following, but it should have gracefully bowed out of the spotlight years ago instead of dragging the show along forever and in the process making sure it loses all credibility and just crashes and burns. Ratings continue to erode rapidly, the show has posted some of its lowest ratings ever (includes Season 1 ratings) and is now beginning to lose to both Modern Family and The Voice in the 18-49 demographic. The public seems to be rapidly losing interest.

This show has become more of an outlet for people to relaunch their careers (see: Jennifer Lopez) as opposed to actually finding talent. Mariah Carey will undoubtedly try to score a 19th #1 single and maybe a new album #1 with the show as her career has fizzled out a bit (not like she needs the money really). Nicki and Keith Urban will probably be doing similar things.

I think the show started going downhill when they added in Kara. It's not that Kara alone ruined the show. It's just that there was no sense in adding in a 4th judge and throwing off the dynamic that already existed. If it isn't broken, why fix it? And instead of correcting the mistake right there they messed it up more in seasons to come. Paula and Simon leaving definitely hurt the show. The J Lo, Randy, Steven combo was mediocre at best.

    Peace out Idol.

Vote For The Worst, the usual alliance of tweens and cougars who have nowhere else to put their hormone vote this season, and a few hearing-impaired guys in this thread.

Please... lol. I'm not the only one who feels the same way about Lazarro, Native Son. He forgot his lyrics... again. And will continue to do so. His performance was "HIS" best so far, but he's still the worst. Sorry about it.

How can you even rank them? All of Lazaro's performances have been flat, inert and unmemorable to me in exactly the same way. It's like listening to the sound my printer makes when it's out of toner.

Excellent point, but the "Lazzy" fan girls (like some people on this thread ) will defend him no matter what because they have a little school girl crush on him.

He was referring to the fact that Lazaro forgot some of the lyrics. He also followed it up with "This is a competition". As if he stood a rat's ass chance in hell of winning. If it had been a duet with his friend Candice and she happened to forget the lyrics, you and I both know he wouldn't have said a single thing about "doing what I was supposed to do".

Yeah except Candace is a consummate pro who doesn't forget her lyrics and is outsinging them week to week. Lazaro has been terrible each week, forgotten his lyrics multiple times, always offers some lame excuse about not knowing the song/not having enough time to practice, and doesn't give a raw fuck because he knows the combination of his backstory + looks + worster-votes will keep him in the competition. Burnell had every right to resent that and call him out on it.

Devin and Jimmy called out Lazaro too btw and it's the only time all season I liked Burnell, Devin or Jimmy.
