Re: The Great Gatsby - Another gorgeous Baz Luhrmann Film

I saw it last weekend and loved it. First off I agree with Cupid Boy the 3D was unnessissary but the film it's self was highly enjoyable. Sadly I haven't read the book, which being an ex English A level student is a crime to say but I'd say the film got the gist of the story, well the romantic side anyway. The only major quarm I have is the music. As a seporate album it's great but hearing a baseline beat and the vocals of fergie and Q-tip while seeing a serposed 1920-30s party is just about awkward really. Florence Welsh's song and Larna del ray? No idea how to spell that, their songs were great and they fitted more with the film but I am a huge fan and so most probably biast. But yes over all an enjoyable film would defiantly recommend it.

Fitzgerald's style of writing and portrayal of characters in his novel allows little creative leeway if a director wanted to stay true to the story. Having read the book I kept that in mind as I watched the movie. I enjoyed it for the most part.

Overall, I really liked this movie. I decided to reread the novel and then watch the movie. It definitely helped me get reacquainted with the story and I was surprised by how much of the book, I'd forgotten.

I think all of the leads did a good job and while I felt the visual style was over the top at the beginning of the movie, I got used to it by the end of it. I would definitely recommend going to see it.

I wasn't in love with that aspect of the movie, but thankfully it was a pretty small part of it. I felt it was jarring.
