Re: Toons
We're having some issues again with some of the cartoons/CGI/anime/hentai/eroge/yaoi images being posted in several threads.
This stems from a legal issue back in 2008, where the United States Supreme Court decided that depictions of minors in real or other forms in a sexualised situation may be considered as child porn. See : here.
This opinion has also been adopted internationally by the numerous agencies combatting child sexual abuse.
For some reason, some members are finding this complicated to understand - when in actual fact it makes everything so much simpler!
In a nutshell, the main thing you have to consider before posting an image (whether it's a photo or a drawing) is "Is the subject over 18?" If the answer is 'NO', then don't post it!
If you don't know or aren't sure, then research it, and if you're still not sure - don't post it.
For instance, TinTin (according to Herge, the author) is 17. Shaggy and Fred (of Scooby Doo) are 17. The vast majority of characters in the Avatar and Naruto series are also under 18. InuYasha - although 200yrs old - is purposely drawn to look 15.
And that's another thing that can cause confusion. It isn't just about how old they ARE. We also have to consider how old they LOOK. It doesn't matter that InuYasha is 200yrs old. He is drawn to look 15. It doesn't matter that Daniel Radcliffe was 18 for the last 2 Harry Potter films - his character is under 18. Edward Cullen in Twilight may well be 109yrs old - he will forever look 17.
I appreciate that it isn't always obvious, and it isn't always easy to research, so if an image gets removed, please don't 'go off on one' and abuse the mod that removed it or throw your toys out of the sandpit - we've spent a lot of time getting to the stage where we remove it!
The rule we work to at Mod Towers is simply "If in doubt, take it out". We're not here to spoil your fun - we're here to keep it legal.
So, "When in doubt - leave it out."
And of course, we're always grateful to members who report images that they feel may portray minors or may have been overlooked by the Mod Team.
