The Vitameatavegimin episode is my favorite.

Second is the episode when Little Ricky is born.

One of the reasons for its great success (besides Lucy's genius, of course) is the "three camera" filming technique which Desi invented. It became the standard for recording sitcoms until fairly recently.

    Ah, such a great show!

Saw some recently...one of which Lucy went to a vineyard and wound up fighting some lady in a thing full of grapes.

Another she and Ethel each wanted an outfit by a famous designer, so Ricky and Fred got the idea of making outfits out of potato sacks and buckets. The designer saw them and made them one of his designs, but Lucy and Ethel had already burned the originals.

    Ah, so many good memories.

I miss that old Nick @ Nite lineup. Lucy, Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Facts of Life, etc. <3

My favorite episodes include Vitameatavegamin, the one where she stomps the grapes, the ones where Fred and Ricky dress as burgalars on the ledge, and the candy factory.

i loved lucy too but my favorite sitcom is 'my three son's'. it seemed more real to me as a kid, ironing board in the living room, the dog tramp sleeping on the furniture and oatmeal for breakfast. robbie [don grady] was easy on the eyes too. i have all 380 episodes on dvd and watch it often.

I loved the episode where Lucy thought that Ricky was having an affair with a female dancer, and she disguised herself in this hideous costume and tried to spy on him. And the hilarious part was that Ricky knew all along and he let her make a fool of herself. She was so out of place! I think this episode is from season one.

Don't know how far this thread will go, but I definitely loved the old Lucy episodes.
    Faves?
Too many to list...I'll make up the titles... fans will know the episodes:

    "Vitametavegemin" (sp?)
    "Grapes in Italy"
    "William Holden in Hollywood"
"The Bet on Telling the Absolute Truth"
    etc.

Yes, Lucy should always beloved. She is still being copied to this day by other sitcoms. The program was truly funny without using one fart joke, poop joke, jokes about sex, body parts, etc. It had genuine humor rather than going for the cheap and easy laugh.

The trips to Hollywood and Europe are great.

I also really like the episode when Ricky puts Lucy on a schedule because she is always late.

Btw, imagine showing a sit com now with the husband spanking the wife because she was "bad." lol

I enjoy all episodes. I like the loving cup getting stuck on Lucy's head. I like all the episodes of the road trip to Hollywood. Vivian Vance was Ethel on I Love Lucy and Viv on the later sitcom, which never grabbed me the same way.

Re: Do we still Love Lucy?

I liked pretty much all of the episodes. One of my fav's is the one where Lucy was making a home movie (Western theme) and accidentally taped it over Ricky's tape. I didn't really like the episodes w/ a lot of singing and music. Lucy will always be a staple of American comedy. My only problem is that I can't find the re-runs on TV. I'm sure it's on, but I guess when I'm not at home.

I will always be a fan of Lucy.......I own the entire I Love Lucy series on dvd and just bought the first season of The Lucy Show......not the same, but still funny. I don't think there will ever be a time that she's not on tv somewhere in the world at any given time. Almost 60 years and STILL going!

I will always love Lucy. The woman truly is the queen of comedy and when you look back at that show it's a wonder how advanced the program was for it's time. Not only did it center around an interracial relationship but it regularly reflected a feminist sentiment. But most importantly it was consistently hilarious. Even when you've seen an episode a hundred times you can't help but laugh the hundred and first time.

One of my all time faves that no one ever seems to mention is the charm school episode (with Natalie Schafer, Mrs. Howell, as the teacher) - extremely well made and funny. As someone mentioned, the tell-a-lie bit is funniest at Carolyn's when they gather to play bridge. The pioneer women episode is also good. There were some not as good, but they made 179 episodes, and many are wonderful.

I Love Lucy was truly funny as was many of the comedy shows from that era. Sitcoms today are all about laughing at other people embarrassing themselves or making idiots out of themselves. I just don't think that's funny.

  29. #29

Re: Do we still Love Lucy?

Of course, I Love Lucy is a classic. Next up was The Lucy/Desi Comedy Hour, which were one-hour episodes featured once a month. After Lucy and Desi divorced, CBS premiered The Lucy Show. After several years, she changed the format to Here's Lucy. Each show after I Love Lucy was a decline. The Lucy Show didn't start off too bad, because you still had Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance, who were still very funny whether trying to use stilts to get into bunkbeds or trying to install an antanae on their roof. Once Viv left the show, it went downhill, with some of the worst supporting cast members ever. Here's Lucy was even worse, with those no-talent kids of hers. With all the scenery Gale Gordon chewed on those shows, it's a wonder the show had any sets left. But I Love Lucy still remains the best sitcom of all time.

I can't stop loving Lucy. She was, is and will be the reigning Queen of Comedy.

I liked when she met Harpo, and when Lucy had Little Ricky. Just thinking about how Ricky, Fred and Ethel panicked is still funny.

The Lucy Show is funny too. I love this clip.

Re: Do we still Love Lucy?

There are really WAY too many to choose from, but here's 10 that I liked:

    1) when Lucy tries to trick Ricky by wearing an Italian wig
    2) when Lucy and Ricky try to break their 100-year lease
    3) when Lucy and Ethel get stranded on top of the apartment after trying to cut the electric wire to the apartment so that Ricky and Fred can't watch the fights
    4) when Lucy and Ethel buy a freezer and two sides of beef
    5) In France, when Lucy's arrested for passing counterfeit money
    6) When Ricky and Fred make fake fashions for Lucy and Ethel out of a flower pot, a horse feed bag and burlap sacks.
    7) when Mario from Italy comes to visit his brother, and Lucy ends up working in the pizza parlor
8 ) when Lucy tries to get her birth certificate from Jamestown, NY
    9) Aunt Martha's Old Fashioned Salad Dressing
    10) when Lucy and Ethel try to paint and redecorate Fred and Ethel's apartment

Of all the Lucy shows the one I love best is when Ricky loses his job. Lucy and the gang dress up various outfits to get Rick back at the club. Fred in drag is just to funny.

Does anyone else love "I Love Lucy"?

I'm wondering if anyone else feels the same way I do.......

Does anyone else love "I Love Lucy"? I watched that show (in re-runs) when I was growing up -- and I still find that show to be hilarious. It's the only show that I can watch over & over again -- and it still doesn't get old!

I get the feeling that Lucille Ball is some kind of "gay icon." All of the guys who have told me that they enjoyed watching "I Love Lucy" growing up (like me) -- are all gay men. Plus, you know there are some drag queen Lucy's out there.

Anyway, how can you not find this funny (even though it was filmed 60 years ago)?

I don't know the "Lucy Ricardo/Carmichael" character could be regarded as an "icon".

The character was a scatter-brained ditz with a knack for getting into trouble.

The real woman was a hard-nosed and manipulative.

    Eve Arden's character was consistent

You would be a little hard-nosed too if you were known as perhaps one of the biggest female stars on television, and tourists & fans were crawling onto your lawn, every day of the week, hoping for a photo or autograph. Her house didn't even have a guard or gate -- you could walk up and ring her doorbell.

Even today, over 20 years after she died, Lucille Ball's former home at 1000 N. Roxbury Drive in Beverly Hills, is one of the most popular tourist stops for people visiting L.A.

Re: Does anyone else love "I Love Lucy"?

By the way, Lucille Ball was supportive of gays -- even back in 1980.

In the Feb. 1980 issue of People magazine, Lucille Ball was asked, "how do you feel about gay rights?"

She replied, "It's perfectly all right with me. Some of the most gifted people I've ever met or read about are homosexual. How can you knock it?"

You're right, the show must have been a top-rater if stars like Holden and James Mason would make guest appearances. I've seen that Marilyn Monroe and Humphrey Bogart did guest appearances on the Jack Benny TV show.

(BTW The reason I'm lukewarm about Lucille Ball is that I hate slapstick and reckon it's irrational that an intelligent person would choose to be dumb.)

    Greatest show ever amirite?

Just being reminded of that Bill Holden episode annoys me though. Because A of all he kind of deserved getting the pie to face for acting like a dickwad, and B of all everybody acts like Lucy threw it at him when it's referenced in later episodes, even though she really just bumped into the waiter carrying it.

^You sound like me watching Gillian's Island.

Gillian is blamed for everything that happens, even thought none of it his fault.
