i thought it was just as good as the first one. i didn't see it in the theater but it's definitely worth movie ticket prices. i have to see this in 3D. how do you know they're making a 3rd one.

The only way this movie is going to get 3 stars if it's out of 10.

I don't know but if it survives being Eaten by Hunger Games then a 3-Peat will probably get the green light...I predict part 3 will be all about Percy's Son...

Re: Wrath of the Titans (Thumbs Up)
I did not like Clash (2010). They put a bra on Medusa. Really? Are audiences that sensitive now where they must be protected from mythological creatures being exposed? It just shows what is wrong with movies today and paranoia with the MPAA. Of course, that was not my only issue with the film. The original told the story much better. And Sam Worthington being miscast as Perseus. Among others.

Re: Wrath of the Titans (Thumbs Up)
Isnt it time someone in Hollywood got together a Good screenwriter, Director and team of Actors to tell the story of Medusa?
Medusa gets a bad wrap and there's a back-story about her before the Snakes....There's a boatload of actresses that could play her but Angelina Jolie comes to mind...

^^^Who do you think should be cast other than Angie?
Some other Chick-picks I can think of are Uma Thurman..She gave us a decent Medusa for about 5-min in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief ...Uma needs a strong come-back Flick and I know she could pull it off...
Let's not over-look that BAD-Ass Milla Jovovich from the Resident Evil franchise...She'd ROCK Medusa...
And I think the HOT Zoe Saldana would do the part justice...

Re: Wrath of the Titans (Thumbs Up)
Hmmm. Not so certain. It would require an actress that passes as universally beautiful. One that can evoke jealousy from other very beautiful women. Yet, she would need to be able to make us feel pity for her; not an easy task for a beautiful person.
The actress would need to be willing to be shown bare breasted. I know this may sound shallow. But in most art of Medusa that I see, she is in fact depicted as bare breasted. This makes sense, as any woman who is horrifically cursed for life by a goddess would not be concerned about her modesty. Showing the contrast of her most beautiful features with her most horrific on the same body is essential. That's the point of the curse.
Angelina certainly fits much of the description. I recall her role as Grendel's mother in Beowulf which I liked. She had a similar task to look beautiful and yet have a sinister character. But she may be getting too old to play the part.

Re: Wrath of the Titans (Thumbs Up)
Depends on which version of the Medusa curse you go with. In one version, she is very sympathetic from start to finish. In other versions though, she was cursed for wicked deeds.
In most versions I've seen of her though, she is topless. That shouldn't be changed just to appease people who can't stand to see breasts under any circumstances.

Wasn't taking this movie seriously until reading this thread. Would it be necessary to see the first one to have this sequel make sense?

The fact that Sam Worthington is in it means it automatically is at least 6 out of 10 regardless of the content.

Re: Wrath of the Titans (Thumbs Up)
just saw it. i give it 3.5 outta 10. i went for the special effects, which were ok. always neat to see monsters smashing people/stuff, but that was the only reason to bother going. otherwise it was a choppy, nothing new, horrible use of bad greek mythos, which did not even have one flash of hot dude ass in it.

Go see it on IMAX and in 3d .. UNBELIEVABLE !! The special effects are AWESOME ! I thought it was much better than Clash (and Clash was a good starting point too) Anything with Sam Worthington is worth going to see I could have sat in the theatre for 3 hours and been very happy. I will definitely go see it again.

I almost thought this was a joke until I realized you're all serious. I thought it was horrible, as bad, if not worse than the first one. 3/10 for me.

Re: Wrath of the Titans (Thumbs Up)
If you turn off your brain for two hours than yea... its a popcorn movie. IMHO, the movie failed to live up to the promise from star, Sam Worthington that it would be better than the 2010 film. That first remake was flat, empty and devoid of anything holding you firm to the character's journey through the story. Perseus was a whiny bitch in that movie and the Gods came across as campy. I also felt that the monsters were too fluid in movement where I failed to feel any kind of real character coming from them. Medusa was not scary or realistic from a character perspective. If a woman were cursed with an unsightly deformity like that, she would not be cackling like she does in the movie, she'd be in torment. I also believe that she would want to either be killed for being so horribly cursed or be enraged in the knowledge that men would come to get her head and use it as a weapon. That is what the remake should have brought across. The sequel comes across as overly rushed, where you are thrown into the action with little character development. I would have scuttled the Bill Nighy character as his only purpose in the movie is to open the door to the labyrinth that leads to the underworld. Even then, the heroes pretty much stumble there way through this impossible to make your way through labyrinth in 5 minutes screen time. The movie is also mislabeled as The Wrath of The Titans, I only saw one Titan. So yea, there will likely be another installment to addresses the other S in the Titans title. I should hope that the studio sees fit to scrap it and start from scratch. Firstly, I would never have shown the Gods or any scenes with the Gods in Olympus. Instead, I would maybe alude to them through symbolism in background imagery; clouds, shadows, statues moving in the background, something spooky like that. Something implicit and less theatrical. I would also cast an actor who is of Greek or Roman heritage as the main character. Medusa could have been played very differently, the original played it well. She scared the crap out of me when I was a child, the stop motion added to her otherwordliness. The CGI creatures have no characterizations other than being things to kill or things to fear. I could understand Kronos being so old and ancient that he just doesn't understand humans and his kin, that he would want to just slaughter them. The quick change of Hades was also a bit sudden, I thought he only feeds off people's hate... whats up with that? Oh well... continuity aside the movie felt small in many parts, I didn't get any sense of urgency and so I didn't care who lived or died. Still, these movies are nothing other than cash cows for the studios. I can only hope that someday someone in Hollywood will finally decide to make an intelligent remake with good ideas with a strong belief in the audiences' intelligence. Bigideas mixed with ancient stories/myths is a good starting place for epic movies, just don't forget that characterization and character development is key. That new movie from Ridley Scott seems to have the right idea and so I hope that doesn't turn out to be a big disappointment. Even though they are largely different movies, they both borrow mythology as the motivation for their stories.
Anyway, If I have to rate this, I would say that it is slightly worse and no better than the 2010 movie.

Well I enjoyed it. Boyfriend and I went to see it for our 3 year anniversary.
Ya there was a few inconsistencies with traditional Greek mythology, but these were mostly minor, and easily overlooked. The graphics were pretty good, and in 3D, it looked amazing.
It amazes me though, how many people on JUB know more about making a movie than Hollywood
