Carl Sagan asked that 30 years ago. He was wondering if the universe needs a creator, why wouldn't a god? And if a god doesn't need a creator, why would the universe?

Never been any answer other than crickets. Or "Hey! Look over there!" or "Because they aren't the same thing" followed by "In what way does a universe necessitate being created by a god while a god necessitates no such creator" followed by crickets or "Hey! Look over there!"
Americans need to keep their guns so they can protect themselves from gun violence just like Nancy Lanza did. And like Chris Kyle did. And like Gabby Giffords did. And like Tom Clements did. And like Michael Piemonte. And Joseph Wilcox.

Sorry Kuli but that's a lame answer, and you're deliberately avoiding even attempting to address it.

    "Who made water wet?"

No-one, BUT THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION IS that a chemical process fused hydrogen and oxygen atoms to create a compound that remains in a liquid state at room temperature.

    "Who built the Alps?"

No-one, BUT THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION IS that the process of plate tectonics within the Earth's crust caused the African plate to push northwards into the Eurasian plate, thereby folding the crust and over millions of years creating the mountain range known as the Alps.

    So, let's try again....

    Who created God?

Or if you prefer the long winded question....

What was the process that led to the 'birth' or 'manifestation' of an omnipitent super-intelligence in the creation of our Universe, and where, when, and in what form did this 'being' or 'lifeform' originate?

Because a Creator by definition has none in turn, else it isn't a creator, just an intermediary.

The inevitable shallow answers to the questions posed.

Nothing made water wet; it's inherent in being water. And nothing built the Alps; they were generated.

God was not created; that's part of the nature of being God -- God is generated, by Himself -- self-generating, as the answer to Moses concerning God's name reveals.

It's the materialists who insist it has to be turtles all the way down.

We know that GOD cannot create himself, and that he has always existed through all eternity, even before the Big Bang, he is PURE SPIRIT. Though we cannot see him, except in the form of His Son, the second person of the One GOD, the Trinity...we can know him through various means, as mentioned in many threads in this forum. The few means that we can know him, not just by Faith, but by way of deep Prayer, Meditation, and Contemplation. Another means of knowing GOD, is by way of experiencing his Divine Presence in our Lives.

Another dodge! Yes, every atheist can imagine a god existing beyond time and without beginning. We're still waiting for an answer as to why those same attributes couldn't just apply to the universe itself. Still crickets from those with the theist hypothesis.

It's not a dodge, it's basic sense. By definition, a Creator has to be self-generating.

Why the universe isn't self-generating is the atheist's problem. The believer understands that the universe itself is evidence that there's a Creator.

Funny shit my ultra-religious Christian cousin says on her Facebook page. (I don't say any of this to her directly, but because she and her family are homophobic, are always trying to indoctrinate us, and dropped me from last year's Christmas card, I don't feel so bad talking behind her back about the very thing that makes them this way.)

So thankful that God's 'Plan A' was for Jesus' sacrificial death and not mine. Praise God we serve a risen Savior! Happy Easter (weekend) to all!
Plan A? LMAO. After reading the Bible it seems like Jesus was more like Plan C. Plan A would have been hoping that Eve didn't eat from the forbidden tree so conveniently placed within her Earthly reach. Plan B would have been when God caused the global flood and killed everybody except for our great great great great great great great great great great grandfather Noah and his incestuous family, who are strangely all white. Then Plan C would have been God becoming his own son and sacrificing himself so he can forgive us for the clusterfuck he created with Plan A and couldn't quite resolve with Plan B, despite his infinite power, wisdom, and foresight.

The same day she also posts about her child's "shark teeth" which is an understandable concern but apparently might not be a problem yet (adult teeth are coming in before the baby teeth have dropped). I find it odd that while she'll be praying to god to fix it, and while she's so sure that God will do that before saving the hundreds of children who die every day from preventable starvation, disease, and violence, to help her kid's privileged tooth problem, that she's still making an early dentist appointment, you know, JUST IN CASE.

Strange how our prayers can change so quickly, but yes, we will pray they come out in the next few weeks. The dentist receptionist said the dentist doesn't usually see patients just due this problem but says I can bring ***** in if I want.
If the old tooth/teeth come out sometime in the next few weeks, then praise Jesus! Praise God! Praise the Holy Spirit! Their prayers have been answered. Much money will have been saved in dental costs. Suck on that atheists! There's your proof right there!

But why did God allow so many kids with REAL problems to die in the meantime? He works in mysterious ways!

    Noah's Ark - the boat.
Noah's Arc - god's sign (a rainbow) that his highly unpleasant murderous rampage of drownings was over.

    Imagine the in-breeding that followed!

I didn't know that. But he can't even use that as an excuse because he was referring directly to the boat which was apparently found on a mountain in Turkey.

Hopefully the mods will tolerate this since it's an extremely powerful and very important message that the entire world should see. Obviously, the best interests of this child and every other like him or her are the top priority here.

I understand that when you say "we" you mean you and like minded people. So I'm not going to bother you about that.

I do have a question though. Only because I've seen you post about your religion before and I know that you're sincere. My question is about the holy trinity.

The way I understand it. There's God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. God is Jesus, but God is above Jesus. Jesus is the Holy Ghost, but Jesus is above the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is both God and Jesus, but it's below both God and Jesus.

Now, saying that's all true, or at least that all three are the same entity, God sent himself down as Jesus with the purpose of being crucificed for the sins of man. Then, while being crucified, Jesus says "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do" to himself, God.

So to me, none of that makes any sense. I can look at it and say that it's all crazy and none of it is true. Maybe this is a strawman arguement, but I tried my best with the knowledge that I have about the bible.

My question is, how do you justify this? Or do you even have to? What have you expereinced in your life that has made you feel different?

Or am I just completely off base with my understanding?

My question is, how do you justify this? Or do you even have to? What have you expereinced in your life that has made you feel different?

Or am I just completely off base with my understanding?
First off, the three persons of The Holy Trinity are equal to each other. Secondly, the easiest way to explain the Trinity is to find 3 long waxed candle wicks and hold them together, then light the top....How many flames are there? Now pull them apart and tell me how many flames there are. Bring them back together, and how many flames are there? The three leaf clover doesn't do justice to the easiest explanation of the Trinity. For great effects...do the wick experiment with all lights out and at night.

It makes perfect sense, but you're all over the place with it. Here's something that works as a key:

As an ancient Creed puts it:

    The Father is God, the Son is God, the Spirit is God;
    The Father is not the Son, nor the Spirit;
    The Son is not the Father, nor the Spirit;
the Spirit is not the Father, nor the Son.

It's easy enough to grasp, as mathematical operations:

    As God, 1 * 1 * 1 = 1
    As Persons, 1 + 1 + 1 = 3.

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. No, it's definitely wood, though they've recovered some that shows early signs of petrification.

There are at least three different claims to being the Ark. One was disproven by NASA; I forget the details. Another is totally the wrong shape -- a craft of its shape and dimensions wouldn't have lasted half a day on the supposed world-wide 'ocean' even if it had been "calm". There are reports it's actually of wood, but there's dispute on the dating... which is irrelevant anyway; a boat that wouldn't last the forty days and more doesn't qualify.

Someone ventured the notion that the wrong-shaped one was an Ark shrine built by unknown monks, who wouldn't have known the proper shape or size.

As for the remaining one... since there's no evidence for a global flood, and since the Bible doesn't actually say that, if it's really a boat, there's the interesting question of how a local/regional flood tossed it that high.

BTW -- sorry, Mikey, but even if that one really is a boat, there's nothing to make us believe it's Noah's, or even that it ever floated anywhere. Don't fall into the trap of thinking it's so because it would be nice if it were.

    I totally love that one.

It reminds me, there's a thread everyone should visit, over in CE & P, title something like "Show this to your conservative friends". A college student who got a leave of absence to study the matter does a superb presentation on what the Bible has to say about homosexuality. The true beauty is that he does it from basically conservative principles.

    2. A=C
    3. A=D
    4. B≠C
    5. C≠D

From line 3 we know that A=D. Thus line 5 can be rewritten as C≠A. And now line 2 becomes irreconcilable. I think this is called "Woo woo Mathematics."

Your little list is irrelevant. The graphic demonstrates that under different operations, different conditions apply. That's quite common in math.

And in science, you don't "disprove" something by trying to force your preferred form of math on it, you take the data and find math that works.

The diagram comes from the data in the Bible. The math is chosen to fit the data.

In short, you're being non-scientific in your approach. I think this is called "irrational".

The stories of men are considered "Data".

    Who is avoiding science again?

I thought in your abortion thread you claimed I was finding information to support my conclusion yet here you do the exact same thing. You find some unverified unproven information and PRODUCE mathematical data to support it.

so science isn't about disproving unverifiable claims but is about finding "math" that proves the "data" in the bible to be true?

For theology, the Bible is data.

No, you weren't using any information at all -- you were invoking metaphysics.

"Unverified unproven information". Odd -- the question was what the Bible had to say about the Trinity. That presupposed that the Bible is the relevant data set. I showed what the Bible says, and further showed that it can be mathematically modeled.

Science is about taking your data set and making sense of it. Frequently that means finding a mathematical model for it. What the data set is, is irrelevant.
