I think I can identify there Pat Robertson, Fred Phelps, Sarah Palin, Kirk Cameron and Michele Bachman as the usual suspects, but I'm not sure about the other two... although I think I have seen before the Bijou Video gay man with the banana.

It would have to be in a dome.

In all fairness, you do not need to be a religious person to have a small mind ... specially when that mind devotes a huge chunk of it to some very specific field, out of which it has received very little training.

There was a guy in Spain, a "science reporter" (just another fucking average journalist undercover) who wrote a book (La razón estrangulada) who pretended that being trained in stuff like chemical formulation would allow you to deal more rationally, more effectively with ANY OTHER subject that comes long... a guy using magical thinking to defend de power of rationality.

I am so glad that Kulindahr takes the time to pop into this thread now and again to censoriously correct the 'errors' in many of the posts ... I would hate to think that I was laughing at something that was theologically unsound from a Christian perspective.

I'm not interested in "theologically unsound", I'm interested in lies about the subject.

Would people laugh at jokes about LA that were based on LA being built on the slopes of a volcano? or about Boston that rested on that city being in a desert? A great deal of the "humor" here is of that sort -- based on sheer stupidity.

    What's funny about lies?

The real joke in this thread is that atheists think they're educated. The content of a great deal of the alleged humor is that they're proceeding with less grasp of the matter than a high-school dropout religious fundamentalist.

The worst thing...is not energy depletion, economic collapse, conventional war, or the expansion of totalitarian governments. As terrible as these catastrophes would be for us, they can be repaired in a few generations. The one process now going on that will take millions of years to correct is loss of genetic and species diversity by the destruction of natural habitats. This is the folly our descendants are least likely to forgive us.--e.o. wilson

The fact that they're funny, apparently. I don't believe in any "gods", so things being lies or truth are immaterial - I just want to LAUGH.

Well ... for example ... 'The Bible™' is full of lies ... and yet parts of it are utterly hilarious.

Okay -- in proportion, yeah, it's funny.

BTW, are you going to go see Noah?

In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

Actually, in terms of property taxes I like a proposal I saw: only the portion of the property occupied by the building, and only the portion of the building used for worship or religious education, should be exempt. Big spreads of decorative lawns, gyms, swimming pools (I've stayed overnight at a church with a swimming pool), etc. shouldn't count. Parking lots are debatable.

But the big thing is to stop government funding of religion by ending the deduction for donations to religious causes.
