You said a bunch of words that meant nothing at all while taking the bait because someone made fun of your 'god' of choice.

Give yourself a hand. Or, rather, another.

The difference between the TRUE psychologists that thought being gay was a disorder and the religious peons that think gay is absolutely wrong is that those psychologies have been dis-proven and reversed, whereas those that believe that we were made in that 'gods' image refuse to believe that being gay is anything but a choice.

Mainstream scientific thought has often been wrong, and wrongly applied to justify inhumane actions. The thing about the scientific method is it is self-correcting. People expect results to be overturned. People anticipate that theories will be improved. You don't usually see religious people say "this dogma is probably wrong" or "I'll publish this revelation for peer review to see if I've overlooked some mistake."

(And if anyone is tempted to assert that the Council of Nicaea is a process equivalent to peer review, I'll just add that journals of science need to be published more than once every 1700 years to keep up with the latest developments.)
Americans need to keep their guns so they can protect themselves from gun violence just like Nancy Lanza did. And like Chris Kyle did. And like Gabby Giffords did. And like Tom Clements did. And like Michael Piemonte. And Joseph Wilcox.

Some people expect scientific results to be overturned. Others have a different attitude about it.

Heterodoxy in religious history happens more slowly and more dramatically compared to schism in science. But of course, there are more examples than the Council of Nicaea.

Is that what the chart was saying?

The Dark Ages left people without the ability to read or write. There was no science, no math and no tools.

I thought the chart was simply saying during the dark ages religion spread.

While in the Renaissance art and innovation spread, for example, and the world as a whole really went far.

When there was only religion, how far did the world go?

the idea that there were no scientific advances between the fall of the Roman Empire and the European Renaissance is a little silly... innovation is almost always cumulative and gradual.

some of the biggest advances during that time period came from highly religious Muslim nations in the middle east.

looseliam makes the mistake that irrational overrational minds seem proud to make every now and then: the quotation that he dismisses by missing the point was not referring to an accurate term but pointing to an era in Western European history in which everything turned around a church and her perverse use of the belief in and fear of God as a means and excuse to trump up freely a social and political system that oppressed people's minds and bodies, and which can be referred to as "Dark Ages" or as "Loopeypalooley" or whatever other name you like.

If loosey's problem is with accuracy, then he could well indicate that "Dark Ages" is often wrongly equated with "Middle Ages", while Dark Ages is in fact a shorter period within the whole Middle Ages era.

"Dark Ages" is an Eurocentric, therefore Westerncentric, therefore Anglocentric term: nothing is considered to be worth a shit until is has been discovered or sanctioned by the EuroWesternAnglo- world: that's why what is in origin used to refer to a local, particular period of a part of the human people, it is used, understood and believed (proof on your own post) to refer to the whole of human history. Since it is the West that is now (still) at the peak of civilized achievement (remember the FDR speech?), everything in the course of human history is considered from that distorting vantage point, and is one of the three points of faith whose cracking is a bigger challenge to the stability and future sane development of the Western heritage than any terrorist, military or/and economic threat: the loss in the faith on democracy, science/rationality and progess/continuous upwards development in the future.

As for the "juvenile and predictable" claim, what would righteous seniors become without their own juvenile and predictable rant on others' juvenile and predictable PranKts.

While there are some delightful bits here, there's also, predictably, an immense amount of ignorance and stupidity represented. Loki pinpointed a good item of that and has dealt with it well. Rather than get in new arguments with people whose faith forbids them from thinking clearly about the matter, I have some favorite pieces of my own to contribute:

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

It looks like the Pope has devil horns LOL. Maybe it isn't an optical illusion after all. He's a disgusting man who has helped enable the molestation of countless children. He condemns homosexuality while ignoring pedophilia within his own ranks. He's against condoms more than he's against AIDs. He tells people not to worship money but is surrounded by gold and other riches. He's against Halloween and most the Harry Potter books/movies but has no problem with the genocide and sex-slavery in his precious Bible.

It's time the Catholic church be disbanded and the money put towards building the infrastructure necessary to help feed the world's poor.

Nope, my point was against the fact that you seemed to single out a particular pope while they are all the same part of the same mingled mass http://awsomeborgcubes.webs.com/BorgCube.JPG

The Methodist church are doing this in my country. They have sold off almost all of their buildings to fund community rehabilitation programs.

Yeah, those devils under angels' feathery, like this guy justify that saying that, at the end of the day, "others" have abused more kids than the Catholic church ever has... because they so.

No, we were already on the subject of that particular pope and he's also the only one still alive and currently relevant. I'm willing to bet that the further we go back in history the more disgusting they tend to be.

Yep. I wish I could link you to the "debate" on Cuatro in which he was very satisfied with himself, tapping the tips of his fingers together while he slipped in and out the tip of his tongue on his lower lip, after having declared that, as horrible as the cases of paedophilia in the Catholic Church may be, they still have made suffer less children than "other people".

I find that this entire thread to be seriously Blasphemous, with the exception of a very few that display Romney, Santorum, and Palin, etc. All else is Blasphemy.

    Don't forget this one:

who many people still think was murdered by Vatican insiders because he intended to clean things up.
