Trayvon supposedly beat the shit out of him, but there was no bruising, blood or DNA on his knuckles, just some minor cuts which could have been there before the fight. Aside from cuts on the back of his head (easy to self-inflict), George was well enough to not require anything from paramedics other than a quick check up. If I had my head continually bashed on the sidewalk, I'd be getting x-rays and head scans at a hospital to check for swelling or concussions.

The cherry on top is how every time GZ tells his side of the story, a part of the story changes.

I'm amazed that a part of the population thinks that if someone shoots another person dead (without any solid witness around), the shooter can claim self-defense, then go free based on his word and some inconclusive/conflicting evidence.
Even in the interview with Hannity -- probably as friendly a venue as he's likely to get -- he makes statements that sink him. He admits he was following Trayvon, admits that he engaged in an action that could have been seen as life-threatening... he does all the prosecution could want, to provide the material to establish that it was Martin who was covered by "Stand Your Ground".

Mix Zimmerman's own testimony with that from the experts I've suggested, and he's in seriously deep, because it aims at the conclusion that the law does not protect him but it would have protected Martin.

Legislative intent always matters -- it's a standard way for courts to decide what a law is supposed to mean. Sure, it's more often examined by higher courts, but in this case it could be critical.

Did ya'll hear what Jorge did to Queen Barbara Walters yesterday? She flew down to Florida on Wednesday to interview Zimmerman (after The hammer) and before she could get one question out he demanded ABC give him a 30-day paid stay @ a Super 8.....LOL..

Babs said HELL no!!!!.....So he called her while she was taping The View and tried to make things right....Babs didnt shut him down so he'll either be on The View soon or 20/20 changing his story all over again...

So the next 6-plus-months we'll see Zimmerman doing every interview under the Sun...They need to get this trial over with NOW...

Isn't paying for interviews (either directly or through gifts, perks, etc.) a journalistic no-no?

It's obvious that GZ's lawyer is milking his cash cow for all it's worth. Any lawyer with half a brain would have told him to shut the fuck up and stop talking to the press.

Rumor has it that Zimmy's last set of lawyers dumped him because he set up his donation site against their advice and kept trying to contact the media.

Well a Radio host/lawyer said yesterday that O'mara promoting Zimmerman's Media tour is a brilliant strategy...The case is being tried in the public 100%..When they go to trial half the Jury will want to convict Jorge and the other half will want to acquit...

He said O'mara is genius @ what he's doing....

Actually it is, the press coverage and the debate in the masses have been entirely one sided. Zimmerman needs to get his side of the story out.

But every time he talks, he gives ammunition to the prosecution. My favorite is that when he came up to Trayvon, he reached into his pocket. Trayvon was already scared; seeing this stalker reach into his pocket would make me think "Weapon!", and I presume it did the same for Trayvon -- so if indeed Trayvon then swung and struck Zimmerman, the teen was the one acting under "Stand Your Ground".

I agree, it is important that he gets his story out so we can understand the full picture of what happened here, I don't think that getting that full picture will exonerate him at all though, he is ultimately the one at fault for setting the stage for this tragedy.

That's what his upcoming trial is for, Stardreamer. Zimmerman should let his lawyer, the witnesses, and the evidence do the talking to support his innocence. Showing up on Faux Noise and spouting some half-assed excuse is hurting his image, credibility and case.

Which would be true if the rest of the world would let the story lie until the trail, as it is he is being tried and convicted long before the trail in the public but is he being convicted of the right things? If we learn the wrong lessons from this case, it will be no better than if we learn no lessons at all. They have tried keeping him shut up and it is not helping things.

Yes, but all this blather on both sides is just opinion, and holds no water in court. A lot of people already think he is an idiot and/or a psycho. All he is doing by talking is confirming it. Anything he says will taint his image and credibility, so keeping quiet will only benefit him.

The Death Penalty? So you agree with the Prosecution when they charged him with 2nd Degree Murder?

What's interesting about this Case is that BEFORE everything went Global The Sanford Police Dept. did investigate the case. The Investigator advised the SPD to Charge Zimmerman with Manslaughter. The SPD said they didn't feel there was enough evidence to arrest & charge Zimmerman and The State Attorney agreed...They tried this Case @ the Police station before the Courts even knew about it...

Then Tracy Martin got upset when he realized his son might have been killed for no reason at all...He's a Truck driver..Now imagine coming off the road and finding out your son was killed by a neighbor that lives in your gated community....Then the Investigator tells you the SPD decided not to arrest the neighbor and there's nothing that anyone can do about it.....

Tracy Martin did what ANY Parent would do and that's get legal help and PRAY the Media will shine a light on his child's death...Remember Tracy Martin had to take this to the Media because the Sanford police Dept. said they didn't have the evidence to arrest Zimmerman even after filing the Investigator's detailed report...When did the Police Department become the judge & jury? And how long has this been going on @ that Police station?....It makes you wonder....

In other words folks...The Sanford Police Dept. tried to protect Zimmerman because they knew him but they actually made things worse for everybody...had they charged Zimmerman with Manslaughter the Chief would still have his job, the city would not be on the Map in a bad-light and the Department of Justice wouldn't be up their Ass....

So for all you Zimmerman supporters that are UPSET that the Court has released evidence to the Public you really should back-track and do your homework on this case....The Sanford police Department decided to protect their Favorite neighborhood wanna-be-cop...Evidence-be-Damned....You would already know this had you been following the case...

So you can't blame the Publics emotional State entirely on the Court & The Media...The Sanford police Department got the ball rolling....Police stations around the country are watching this case and HOPEFULLY they will use this case as a cautionary tale....You have to let the system do what it was put in place to do..........

But from LEGAL point of view, as I understand it from the way the law is written, they'll have to let him go. I don't think "original intent" is going to help here, any more than it did with the Second Amendment.
It will be appealed. And appeals courts regularly, especially with new laws, ask what the intent of the legislators was. Decision by the Oregon Supreme Court do that regularly, and I'm sure other jurisdictions do as well. Part of the function of the courts is to see to it that what the legislature meant to pass is what the law is treated as meaning.

Of course, lawyers and lawmen will always try to extend those meanings, even to the point of getting someone trying to explain that it's against the law to steal pubic property arrested for "harassment".

From that point of view, we should hope that the jury comes down hard on Zimmerman -- it might send a message to cops around the country who "enforce" laws that don't exist but which they think should.

Now they're saying that "Zimmerman" failed out at a local community college. There's no crime in failing out of school, however, it illustrates a trend that he continues to do: lie! "Zimmerman" said he graduated.

*BUMP* of old thread, because there's breaking news in the case!

I didn't want to start a whole new thread but, of course, the Grand Jury thing was a good while ago.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Forensic tests made public Wednesday show that George Zimmerman's was the only DNA that could be identified on the grip of the gun used to fatally shoot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

I thought as much. If they were fighting over the gun like George claimed, there would have been Trayvon's DNA on the gun like skin, sweat or blood spatter from the so-called "closeup shot".

I'm getting an "Oops! Not available!" response from Yahoo on that link.

Here is the case where a vigilante thought he was playing a fantasy game. Death and blood are parts of those games, and he never thought reality would be so different if it came forth out of his fantasy cop good guy bad guy.
Meaning simply the fool was out of his league and over his head but liked the authoritarian role play or macho protector of the town home community for the cop we would never be because of this very mental fact.
Like the volunteer fireman who sometimes results to arson to see a fire, then when caught regrets the fact he could never wear that uniform.

If he has lunch with his attorneys, it's billable.

I don't know, but if his attorney helps him try, it could well be billable.

"Trayvon Martin's family has reached a settlement in a wrongful death suit they filed against the homeowners association of the sub-division where Martin was killed, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Portions of the settlement released Friday do not specify how much money Martin's family will receive, but according to the Sentinel, the figure is believed to be in excess of $1 million. The settlement does, however, state that Zimmerman is not part of the agreement. Lawyers for Martin's family have made it clear that they still plan to file a civil claim against Zimmerman at a later point."

George Zimmerman's 'Stand Your Ground' Defense Deadline Looming

    Reuters | Posted: 04/29/2013 6:59 am EDT

    By Barbara Liston

ORLANDO, April 29 (Reuters) - Prosecutors in Florida want George Zimmerman to state publicly at a court hearing on Tuesday whether he will pursue his immunity defense in the 2012 shooting death of teenager Trayvon Martin on the basis of the state's "Stand Your Ground" law, or waive his right to use it.

Prosecutors asked Judge Debra Nelson in a motion to remind Zimmerman "that should defendant in fact wish to waive any pre-trial immunity challenge under this statute, he may not attempt to do so later, particularly once trial has commenced."

I don't understand this. In my last post Huffington said if he waived the rights he would not be able to ask to waive them later. This link says he can waive them later. Something is amiss here.

Zimmerman waives 'stand your ground' defense -- for now

By Erin McClam, Staff Writer, NBC News

George Zimmerman, charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin, waived his right Tuesday to seek immunity under Florida’s “stand your ground” self-defense law before his June trial.
