I had read the Prime Minister wasn't very happy about it either...I think he made a post somewhere (maybe Twitter?) about Justin showing up in his overalls...and tried to play it off as a joke because he (the Prime Minister) was going to wear overalls too. But you can tell he wasn't very happy.

Maybe that was part of the reason why Justin was booed so much at the Grey Cup (which happened on the same day I believe).

But I'd tend to agree with you that with the number of wardrobe changes in a show he'd have at least a couple of racks of clothes backstage and seems that they'd have something ready-to-go, on-a-moment's-notice more formal (or something more dressily casual) on the rack for an impromptu VIP visit, photo op, press event, last-minute charity appearance, etc. - whatever unexpectedly comes up. How about... the Fresh Prince? Will Smith was a young rapper who had a few comical hit songs ("I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson", anyone?), who was thought to be charismatic by a TV producer, who then cast him in a network series. The rest is history. Justin is nothing if not charismatic, and certainly has a better pedigree of success at age 18 than Will Smith did. Let's predict that future for him, ok? Besides, don't you think Will Smith looks back on his early days with a laugh, and a good deal of embarrassment over his clothes and style?

You may recall that Usher was discovered on Star Search, signed to a recording deal by Babyface and LA Reid, and released "Call Me A Mack" when he was 14. Being discovered on a TV show like Star Search in 1993 is like being discovered on YouTube today. That seems like a very good comparison, actually.

Each new album by Usher brought him more fans and more acclaim, more awards and then some movie roles. He's in is third decade of success, with no sign of stopping. Justin just won 3 AMA's, including Artist of the Year, and clearly his career is on the upswing. Why aren't TV and movie roles almost a given for him in the coming years?

Usher may have had a chrome-plated sports car when he was 18, I don't know. There wasn't this horde of attack-at-all-costs paparazzi 20 years ago, so every move Justin makes is photographed and sensationalized. But I think these fake-scandals steels his resolve, and makes him more determined to succeed. What did he say when he got his first AMA this year? "Suck it, bitches?" Something like that.

Only time will tell. But betting on him to flame out spectacularly is not the smart play.

While I said I agreed 100% with the first comment, re-reading it now I realized I don't. I agree it's very possible (and probable) that 30 years from now Justin will be embarrassed by some of the things he is doing now. However you make some very good points. I don't think comparing Justin Bieber to Vanilla Ice is a fair comparison.... the same way that it wasn't fair to compare Vanilla Ice to Eminem when he first stepped on the scene. Eminem is obviously way more talented, and the fact that he still has a career (however lucrative you may argue it to be at this point) is proof.
