Hmm, that's a good point. But my reasoning is that zombies do in fact want their meat fresh. Not a preference, otherwise you would see them eating dead corpses and then what? Do they stop eating them once they come back as zombies? The general rule of thumb is that they don't attack one another.

Think of it this way; Lions want fresh meat. They're not scavengers. That's a vultures job. Lions want fresh meat.

Okay, what about the guy who hanged himself in the tree and walkers came along and ate his feet and legs turning him into a walker? Do we assume he botched his hanging and he was still alive? Possible but not likely.

^^ Shane would hesitate at least a little bit for someone he cared about, just not a complete stranger. He wasn't even the one who pulled the trigger when the little girl walked out of that barn.

and since Shane was so badass, why didn't she shoot the little girl. I think it was something significant to having Rick do it, just not sure what.

I think the point was that Shane is willing to take bold action when it's easy because it's emotionally satisfying, but Rick is the one willing to step up and take the painful choices on himself.

I somewhat agree with MercuryJones, but I think the scene best supports your argument when you refer to the first episode of the second season where Rick tells Sophia to head back to the group. Because he didn't tell her to just stay put and hide real well, her venturing off by herself was thought to be Rick's fault. And he could've killed Sophia, as a walker, by taking that responsibility of endangering her life. or something.

Here's what I'm wondering: In the comic book, whenever anyone dies he or she is reanimated as a zombie. For example, if someone has a heart attack and dies, she'll rise up again as a walker.

I don't know if that's true in the TV show or not because I can't think of anyone who died without being bitten by a zombie who still had enough of a body left to reanimate.

It makes for a more dire set of circumstances, but if left up to me I'd prefer that the means of infection be a bit from a walker rather than every dead body just reanimating.

Well, they don't really think that. What's-her-name who had sex with Glenn still attached names to the people in the barn. And as someone mentioned earlier Herschel believed that someone was working on a cure.

Also, I think Rick said that Herschel's farm was pretty secluded, so they might not realize how dangerous and how dead the walkers really are.

Well I'm sure the vast majority of people in the world don't view it that way. It's easy to THINK you would have no problem with it, but it's different when your actually in that situation. Hershel didn't know that his loved ones were gone, which is why he was keeping them in the barn. Even though they were a danger to him and everyone else on his land, he believed they were just "sick" and could be helped. Denial is part of the grieving process, so it's not hard to believe that someone would want to believe that a walker is still the person they love, even though deep down they know that person in gone.

I think it has been a part of zombie folklore since the original Night of the Living Dead to play off the scenario or your loved ones being the thing you should fear. It's easy for us to watch it in movies or television and say, "Sure, I'd kill off my sister/brother if they were bit". But in reality I don't think many people could.

I fully admit that I could not "deal with" my familiy if they were bit. I'd have to let someone else do it because I just do not have it in me. That said, I think it would be considerably easier to kill off random zombies whom you had no prior relationship with.

I think many of us survivors would have our own barn to deal with our family.

I love The Walking Dead. Who'd have thought a show about zombies could be so great? I really thought they would run out of ideas but the whole story just keeps getting better.

I don't think I'd ever be able to shoot anyone in my family, even if they had become a zombie.

Rather its your family are not and you are in denial thinking they are sick doesn't matter.
It would be difficult like helping a lover or family member kill themselves at the end of a painful terminal illness, but you can look at the walkers and tell if they are alive and sick they will never ever be anything what they were. It would be a very hard act of mercy to take them out of that hell and lay them down.

I read the official companion guide for The Walking Dead, and Frank Darabont said that he actually didn't want the show to be all action and violence; he intended for it to be more like a soap opera focusing on the human characters, with the zombies taking a back seat like we saw in the second season.


Personally, I think that most of the drama is handled terribly on this show. In particular, the love story between Glenn and Maggie seems very forced and awkward; they have no on-screen chemistry. The story lines with Carl and Sophia were incredibly slow to advance, and while they were the two biggest pieces of the plot for the season, the pacing of them was boring and just felt like a nuisance that was preventing any real action from happening. The execs cut the budget for the show, so they stretch it out by putting the characters out in Mayberry with hardly any action except for a zombie in a well?!




The second season made me lose interest in the show, so i'll wait to read what you guys say about the new season before I bother watching it. The art style in the comics might be a little crude and cartoony, but at least the story moves at a solid pace and has some more rewarding conclusions.

Sophia's mom dealing with her death-death, everyone deciding which was the correct way (Shane or Rick's), the girl collapsing in shock while her father/grandfather is out drinking, Lori going out to look for them and gets in accident and then the two dudes coming into the bar.

The thinner guy did a very good job of playing sneaky, it was a great, tense scene! And what a cliff-hanger! Next week can't come soon enough!

Well..i watched talking dead last night and thats been a huge complaint about this season. The EP said you will be seeing more zombies going forward.

I knew those two were bad news...

Were they really bad news? Any more than what Hershel thought of Rick, Shane, and the rest of their gang when they came to the farm? Yes, the 2 dudes had guns, but so did Rick and Shane when they first came to the farm. I think the point of this scene was to make Rick understand more how Hershel felt when Rick's people first came to the farm. Killing those two guys was actually hypocritical of Rick. Imagine if Hershel first greeted Rick's people the same way.
