    Re: The walking dead

Okay, so I've caught up with this whole thread and with the series. I've recently started getting into Zombies this past year. I've watched all the "...of The Dead" movies by Romero and the 28 days/weeks later. The former reminding me of this series' introduction. I also loved Zombieville and Woody Harrelson's fine ass bubble butt playing in it. Can't wait for the interpretation of World War Z with Brad Pitt next year. Brad Pitt just doesn't accept whatever role, and I certainly didn't expect him to accept or play any Zombie-related movie. If it's anything like the book and with Brad in it, it WILL be good.

I've only JUST now caught up with TWD. Wanted to watch it since last year, but never got around to it. I've recently re-instated my Netflix account and saw they had the first season, so I had a marathon and loved it! Then I bought the first two episodes on iTunes and was all caught up by yesterday's new episode.

As someone in the first page mentioned, that poor horse! I watched through the end of the credits JUST for the AHA disclaimer that no animals were harmed! phew

Comments on the show; I love it. I'm in lust with Rick and sometimes Shane. I like how they keep it human. Someone on this thread mentioned it perfectly; Zombies are more of an afterthought and it's more about how people cope with an epidemic.

Last night's episode was pretty good. Can't wait to see how it turns out. For Rick's wife, I know you want to satisfy your sexual needs, but think about what you might bring into the world (in the show.)

Also, does anyone know where I can read/buy the comics? Reading this thread makes me want to read them more. It's like Manga, usually better than Anime counterparts.

I hope you guys are watching "Talking Dead," the after show discussion, which follows the initial broadcast by two hours. It's very insightful.

I didn't see season one but I'm always skeptical of zombies. There is no such thing as a perpetual machine nor a perpetual animal. Tissues break down and when they do a body can't function anywhere close to normal. If it does, then one is dealing with the supernatural. However, a rabinous zombie, one who isn't dead at all, does make sense. Anyhow here are some of my thoughts:

    1) Yes, I'd drink the water from the well as long as the zombie was no longer in it. Yah, right! What were they thinking???

    2) Yes, I'd go out in the dark all alone to take a pregnancy test. Was the bathroom occupied??

    3) The quiet moments like the one in the pharmacy make me nervous. In reality a zombie hoard could happen upon them so it wasn't believable to me.

The lost girl must be integral to the TV story plot. I hope so. In terms of action, the story line is plodding along a bit too slowly for my tastes. Most of last night's episode could have been edited to 30 minutes imo.

To be honest I don't need to see another zombie for the rest of the season. I just want to see where these mother fuckers end up.
No you're not the only one. I TOTALLY agree.

I'm more interested in seeing the characters evolve and cope with their situation. And that's what the comic prioritizes, too. I don't know what people were expecting from an AMC drama, tbh. A mindless action show? lol

    Anyway...

Rick & Hershel's exchange about God = awesome. And Daryl is really growing on me. Also, Andrea and Shane have an interesting dynamic.

Having said that, I can't wait for them to move on from The Farm. It's not the most interesting setting.

    1. Seriously. XD

    2. That's the FIRST thing I thought as well. Where's the restroom!? Seems like she WANTS to get bitten. To make it more believable (and to cleverly use the dragging effect some new episodes seem to have), they should've had her knock to see if the inside restroom was occupied. Then, knowing it was, she took this approach. Instead, they gave us what they did and left us scratching our heads.

    3. I thought for sure one would pop out in the pharmacy. XD

Also, a lot of people mentioned/asked how was it that the zombies weren't able to smell them being so close to them when supposedly they're supposed to be able to smell them fairly easy. The only situation I believed was the Daryl and T-Dog situation. A better explanation should have been given as to why they were able to hide so close to where the zombies were walking and weren't sensed.

I still love the show but I'm really beyond even caring whether or not they find Sophia anymore. I get that they need to have stuff going on to keep the characters at the farm, but 4 episodes searching for a little girl is dragging out far too much.

    2. It's not like she needed to know in a hurry even if someone was in the bathroom. Jeeesh. I'd say if you need a knife to protect yourself, then being out alone to tinkle on a plastic stick ain't such a good idea.

Actually the hiding-under-the-car scene was discussed in "Talking Dead" The zombies don't have a heightened sense of smell or hearing. How can they, everything is rotting so as long as everyone was still and out of sight, they could hide.

I guess looking for Sophia puts the characters in a more vulnerable state and makes for better TV. Daryl looks like he's going to get in big trouble on this week's episode, while on the search for her.

Just found The Walking Dead a few days ago on Netflix. I'd heard about the series but was reluctant to watch because typically I don't find that particular genre entertaining. Boy was I wrong. Just goes to show that a good story and a decent script can work. Now that I'm all caught up and have the DVR set for Sunday night's, I can sit back and hate Shane with the rest of you. I think his character is well developed and wonderfully flawed. Makes for a great villain.

The hearing is bad too? Isn't that kind of strange, though? Especially when they don't want to shoot, since the noise would attract walkers? Oh, and in the first season when Glen brought back the car with the alarm still going off.

Anywho, I thought about it. One reason why the season is going slow is because they're not in the big city....so now walkers are spread apart....There may be some that come in packs, but even then, it's not like the amount of walkers all over Atlanta.

With that being said, I enjoyed this week's episode. Poor Darryl! I would kiss his booboos to make them all better.

If they don't stop finding the girl or move on, I will just watch the show for Daryl. Shane is turning out to be a great character on the show. I kinda supported his argument to move on. Rick is taking everything too seriously. Talk about having a hero complex. Glenn is cute. No character development for T-dog. Kinda disappointing because he is the only black person there and I do believe he has a story.

Andrea, what the fuck?. If I was there, I would have climbed up the RV and kicked her dumb ass down. And the fact that she got over it fast just pissed me off.

Where are all the badass female characters? Laundry, cooking, crying, pissing on pregnancy tests in an open field.... it's a zombie apocalypse in the 2011, not in the 1890s.

I imagine there are zombies in the barn for the same reason there were zombies in the basement of the apartment complex at the beginning of Dawn of the Dead (1978). Some people have a hard time killing family members and close friends, even if they are already dead. Plus the old man did say he believes there is going to be a cure... nature's way of correcting itself?

Rick is supposed to be kind of overly emotional at first. In the comic he grows to be very cold and calculating.

But Shane lost points with me in this episode when he told Lori that the only people he cares about are her and Carl. WHAT ABOUT RICK, YOU ASS? HOW DARE YOU.

    1. Andrea needs to have her ass kicked. At least two people told her not to shoot, but she did it anyway. She is just one fuck up after another. I'd shoot HER in the leg and leave her for the walkers.
    2. It's obvious the old man doesn't want them there. Take a hint and leave.
    3. Burn the barn before you do.

Find her alive or let us know she's dead. The thing that gets me is they could have just shown us a scene of her alive or dead to let us know.

I think the writing is really good and part of good writing is the presence of quieter scenes for thorough character development.

I'm surprised that Hershel commented on the group's naivete, something to the effect that he doesn't understand how they've survived so long. He's the one with zombies in the barn! How can anyone sleep at night knowing that one of them might crawl out and make their way to the farmhouse?!

I have a feeling that the hunt for Sophia will soon end. Just a hunch.

Does anyone else watch "Talking Dead," the aftershow discussion?

Excellent point I had not thought of that. My feeling was why doesn't the ole man just burn the barn down since it's not as if he will ever use ut again; but now I think you may be on to something.

I guess in his mind those people are still living? If there were a cure, I'd doubt it would bring those people back to life. It would probably work on someone who's been bit but still alive.

I believe the creator said he's not going to follow the comics just because he'd like for the show to have it's own...thing...or something.

I don't think there would ever be a cure for rot decau and death either. If a zombie cure ever appeared in zombie genre I think it would have to be administered after a bite before the victim actually died.

I don't think the old man sees it that way.

I think the old man, aka Hershel, does see it that way. Why else would he keep a barn of zombies? As the graphic novel explains it, those are his neighbors and friends. As the men were running towards Daryl, Rick said Hershel wanted to deal with any zombies who came onto his property. I guess we know why.

Still, you are right. Once flesh starts to rot, I can't imagine any cure bringing it back.

The Sophia Is Missing storyline is totally made up for the tv show.

Honestly, I still enjoy the show, but I feel like the writers really screwed up by placing a minor character at the center of this season's first major story arc. Nobody is emotionally invested in Sophia so we simply don't care if she's missing or not. So you have most of the audience wishing that the show would just move on. Even Sophia's mother can't be bothered to go out and look for her, she's moved on to helping throw dinner parties instead of desperately trying to find her daughter.

At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if they drag out the Sophia plot thread into the second half of S2. Tbh, the show hasn't fallen in quality overall, it's just Sophia. Sophia is ruining shit.

Either part of the team begins to branch off, or they still stay on Hershel's farm. So even though the search for Sophia led the group to the farm, I feel like there are more things that are coming off from this. And now we see that there's a flock...errm...herd...party of zombies in the barn.

I think Shane can sometimes look ugly as hell (long hair) but I like men whose head is shaved or completely bald. When Shane shaved his head, his sex appeal (imo) went through the roof! I think it was hot the way Andrea groped him. I wished it was a dude that had done it though, preferably Jimmy (Hershel's kid). The other males are unattractive, with the exception of Glenn and Rick, both of whom are already taken. Jimmy hooking up with Shane or maybe even Daryl would be good, not only to satisfy my needs, but it would certainly spice up the series as they are doing a great job of showing real-life issues (i.e, Lori's pregnancy). Showing a character turn to extreme ultimatums would bring another real-life issue come to light. He can't really get off with family, Glenn has Maggie, Rick has Lori, Sophie's mom is older. The only other option would be Andrea, but she's bitchy as fuck. He doesn't even have to be gay, Jimmy would really just want to satisfy his hormonal needs?

I think it's picking back up. Can't wait for next week, though I thought today would be the finale.

The only problem for me was when the lady that took the momma chicken from its chicks and broke its legs so they wouldn't be able to get away from the walkers. The "no animals were harmed" disclaimer is found in nearly every episode (even in some where no animal is harmed), but it was missing today. I'm hoping they just forgot cuz I would hate to think those chicken's legs were really broken, though I doubt it.

Maybe it's the animal lover in me but I was more bothered by the chicken getting its legs broken than the people who have gotten eaten the past couple of episodes.

I love this episode. The last scene between Lori and Rick.... brilliant. I dry-heaved when Andrea and Shane had their moment.

Major major major fucking spoiler in this picture:

Don't view it if you know you can't handle it. Not sure if real though.

They had some pretty explicit crotch grabbing in last night's episode.
Everyone wants to be heard. No one wants to listen.

    OH. MY. GOD. [/Janice]

That HAS to be real. I'm trying to look but I can't find anyway of how it can be faked! Oh crap, Sunday can't come soon enough!? Maybe that is why they were running in that one sneak peak!?

That's the scene that stirred my interest the most. I actually rewinded it a few times!!

Not surprising at all. At least maybe now the show will get interesting, although it did pick up a little bit in last night's episode.

Last night's episode didn't have a lot of action, but my jaw literally dropped when she grabbed his crotch.

If only it had been Rick instead of her

I'm loving all the screen time Glenn is getting. He's so adorable. I loved Maggie's talk with him because I do think people take advantage of his generosity/niceness.

The exchange between Dale and Shane made very little sense. It seemed so random and forced. Like they've now decided that Shane needs to be a stereotypical villain.

I should rewind it a bit to see if Shane gets excited during the grabbing

And I hope the picture is a fake. She has to turn into a zombie-killing warrior child :/ She said in her interview "I will survive."

I really dislike Dale now, which is a shame because if not for Andrea, he'd be one of the best characters. But the way he's obsessing over her is just creepy and ruining the rest of his character for me :\

I like Andrea more now, but her smugness is still bringing her down. I kind of feel that maybe she's just trying to prove something to the rest of the group, so I hope she'll level out soon.

I hope Sophia really is a walker. At least that would be an interesting end to this boring side-plot.

    Re: The walking dead

    Some thoughts:

The confession of Lori's affair with Rick was too easy for my taste. Rick more or less said I can understand that you thought I was dead and it happened and Lori slowly said yeah. I think they were carrying on beforehand. I'm thinking back to the first episode when Rick and Shane were in the police car and Rick was saying Lori was acting like a moody bitch, etc. and I'm thinking it was because she was already fucking Shane. Shane was exciting, a badass, etc where as Rick was just a laid back family man.

I also think they were fast to want to teach the kid to use a gun when they were so against Andrea using one even though they thought she was suicidal.

There's something to be said for this season when a grabbed crotch is more interesting than the story.

OMG! Did anyone else notice that's the same doors as the BARN? Unless its some other random barn, maybe Sophia snuck made her way into the barn and got bit and was stuck in there?

Actually the Shane shooting Otis part was pretty interesting to me. In fact, Shane is pretty much the only interesting character at the moment.

This week's episode was fantastic. Glenn is becoming more interesting a character, Shane had his hot scene with Andrea, Andrea is becoming a much stronger character, Rick found out about Lori's run in with Shane, I like how Dale is trying to protect Andrea... When Shane threatened him... so good.
