    Basically.

This season started off really interesting, the pacing was great, etc.

Then it gradually just...sort of petered out. Oddly anticlimactic.

    Re: The Walking Dead [merged]

Okay, yesterday I finally saw the finale.

RIP Andrea. I miss you already. Although it may sound odd, she was my favourite character for a long while until Glengie got interesting. Andrea brought some sense of humanity and reasonable doubt to ALL goings on, which was perfect for this show where every character just basically turns out paranoid, gun-crazy or a Walker.

I thought the episode wasn't strong enough for a finale but it was a strong episode altogether. The governor finally loses what remaining marbles he had, Carl's tough kid facade is starting to show cracks - perhaps he'll finally break down in season 4. I'm 50/50 on Carl - I think he could turn out as a great char but the writers aren't really working with him yet. I thought that one episode where he went out on his own was fucktastic tbh!

With Merle gone and Michonne in, Rick's team [why do we not have a name for them yet?? O.O] is finally in good shape - they fended off the governor's final mass attack with ease and cunning, and everyone chimed in. It was organised and well-played. The only thing missing is some internal struggle / affair that could ruin it [think Shane-Lori-Rick, Merle-Daryl etc etc... that all put dirt in anyone's plans].

The season finale was one of cutting off loose ends: Milton turning, Andrea killed, Governor finally giving in to his murderous tendencies. I hope season 4 will tell us more about where he came from as TO ME he always seemed more like an escaped criminal rather than a concerned citizen with a masterplan.

The Andrea-Milton thing... I sooo 100% agree - I was shouting at the screen telling her to get on with it but noooo she had to be all sensitive towards Milt. As much as Andrea could be a tough ass, she could be soooo stupid sometimes.

Personally, for me, season 2 is still my favourite season. LOADS of character development, lots of subliminal intrigue and tons of Walker action. Season 3... I didn't like the constant switching at first between the Prison and Woodbury. I never liked the Governor, and he never sparked ANY form of sympathy for me, which means it becomes hard to actually see him as a character and only as a one-sided villain. The second half of the season though, got way more interesting. In fact, the later episodes with little teams going here or there were SO STRONG, and really showed what this season lacked: Character development. Who did we see most in this season? Right, Rick, Michonne, Daryl/Merle and Andrea and the Governor/Milton. That was it. It's like the rest of the gangs didn't matter, which is a far cry from what happened during Season 2, where we got to know EVERY single person more closely [apart from a few].

I hope Season 4 picks up the quality of Season 2, whilst continuing on the storyline of Season 3. Oh yeah, and someone better make mince meat out of the Governor - I don't care who it is anymore that does it, I just want him DEAD.

Speaking of eye-candy...Andrew Lincoln basically is fading away. He looked so different/healthier in S1 episodes. Now he's so gaunt. ;__; Somebody feed him.

Anyway, one of the main things I'm looking forward to for S4 is Michonne and Rick's budding friendship. It makes me squee. I really loved their little adventure episode this season and I love how the finale had Michonne thanking him, finally, for taking her in. So cute. <3

Best news is not Michonne has a legit reason to hate the Governor, I didn't think she really had a great reason before, but now she does.

I sort of agree. That guy trained and was brainwashed by the Gov and went to the prison to kill, he was the enemy. Given a chance he certainly would physically over take a young boy and a old one legger and blast them if the opportunity came up. Carl has already seen this with other hostile young humans that posed a threat and were taken as a hostage.
No reason to give him a chance in a even more chaotic fucked up attack setting with dangerous biters and humans all over with no safe haven.

You know when the house is on fire you don't take time to pack and carry luggage you get the fuck out as fast as possible.

Unlike many of you I think Carl while seemingly cold and annoying has not shown any aggression or Gov like tendencies to those not deemed a threat. He helped the other group of people that were cast out of the prison and headed to Wood bury. Michonne and Carl make a good team.
Carl needs some direction and he is a mad , rebellious, coming of age kid. I think he will be a powerful part of the series next 2 seasons.
Still think it will be him to handle the Gov next season for exactly the way he acted on the season final. He won't hesitate to blast the Gov like Rick or Andrea could have when they had the chance.

    Re: The Walking Dead [merged]

OK, to cure my Walking Dead craving (like True Blood) I broke down and started reading the comics. I found those "compendium" comic books where they binded the comics together into a giant book. The first one is 1-48 and the second is 49-96. I got the first in ebook (my preference) mainly because its less bulk and easier to keep up with since the actual book itself is kind of big (like a nice Webster Dictionary) and the pages are not numbered so keep a bookmark handy and sort of an idea of where you are, I suggest stop reading in between books as oppose in the middle of one. With that said, let me say they are really great and fast moving for the most part. It has some things the tv show has but they appeared at different times and happened to different characters and my are they graphic. Michonne is a beast and so is Andrea, they are just as bad ass as Rick if not more. Carol is the simple bitch in the comics, I easily disliked her, she was just needy and I think they put those traits on Andrea in the tv series and that tore her character down. I am intrigued as to how they are going to work with the Gov next season and if they will put him with other nemesis to take on the prison. I'm already into the second book and I have had to slow myself down because book 3 isn't out, lol.

I've heard that this season there is "a new threat" introduced. A theory/rumor I have heard is that the threat is starvation. This will lead the survivors to resort to cannibalism, or at least spend half the season contemplating it. Which is sorta clever, it would make the distinction between them and the walkers even more blurred. (actually, this was already done in the Walking Dead episode 2 video game by Telltale Games last year).

Shows like True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, TWD will always get snubbed. But it doesn't matter, since the true winner is the ratings and what people are talking about.

Shows like Mad Men and 30 Rock, can win everything, but both are huge rating failure that don't draw the attention that TWD does.

The Walking Dead was the number one show in the 18-46 category for all of 2013, to me that is a huge and major accomplishment and the Emmys can suck it!

    Starvation seems inevitable.

But if the instant of death is what triggers the turn from expired infectee to 'walker' then cannibalism means they'd be consuming zombie flesh.

    Wouldn't that make them turn?

There has been nothing in the story that indicates eating zombie, or infected, meat makes them turn into full zombie. Everyone is already infected dead or alive, so it probably makes no difference. But freshly killed human no doubt is more appetizing than one that has already been a walker. But FYI the Walking Dead comic had a group a people called "the Hunters" who were cannibals.

One common theme in S04E01 was food: the pigs, gardening, and the starving woman. With a new apparent mysterious disease killing the pigs, it is likely to threaten their other food sources too. Food is about to become much more scarce for them. And I think the starving woman (and her dead husband) were part of the Hunters. She was hungry for Rick as much as her walker husband was.

That's because in season two, AMC cut TWD budget to give it to Mad Men.

Poor special effects or not it's still one of the best shows out there but Rick's intenseness needs to be dialled down a wee bit.

It seemed the woman was hiding a lot more than just her walker husband, and there was definitely some underlying weirdness going on with the things she said and even didn't say. The question of cannibalism is looking entirely plausible at this point.

Rick's head is going to finally explode when he's forced to gnaw (ha ha ha) on that moral quandary.

I think you may be on to something. I read the comic books and there was some cannibalism in the book that came into play. Not exactly sure if they will bring that to tv but you never know. I'm still wondering why she wait until Rick finds her to kill herself, why hasn't she done it all this time she was alone with her "husband"?

Season 3 and Season 4 (so far) have too many walkers, IMO. It's like all walkers all the time. I liked the suspense and mystery (and existentialist apocalyptic feel) at the beginning of Season 1 and the internal turmoil of Season 2. Now it's like a shoot-em-up type of game. Having too many zombies dilutes the effect.

I agree with you on this one. I just finished up season 3 few weeks ago and starting season 4. I was thinking to myself are the producers focusing too much on the visual effects and not enough on the story?

I actually tend to disagree.. Seasons 2 and 3 seemed... tame.

Think about it.. There should be MILLIONS of zombies. That's fear right there!

One little detail I picked up in the episode before last was when Rick noticed something odd about dead earthworms in the compost they were feeding the pigs.

Yeah, thankfully no one saw fit to make us witness that twice.

God, I hate that hypocritical prick.

Me too, I've disliked him since the very beginning. I'm so annoyed after watching this weeks episode.

Spoiler: (Highlight this box to see the hidden message.)

Rick constantly goes back and forth between not wanting to be in charge, but then making really douchebag decisions for other people of his own accord. I think what he did to Carol was much worse than what she did. I'm not saying that she was right or not but she had good intentions and was only trying to protect people - especially the kids, so then it pissed me off when Rick went on to say she was a threat and he didn't want her around his kids. That just made him seem like a dick taking the moral high ground. Half of the show is about him making morally questionable decisions (he's killed people for less) but then anytime someone else does the same it all becomes so black and white all of a sudden.

I fucking hate Rick now. This might have just ruined the whole series for me.

Carol has been my favorite character from the beginning. Oh well.

WOW...I have been thinking...I have been so addicted to this show since Episode One and now I have no more interest in watching...just completely lost me last night. I will read the spoilers and recaps just in case I hear she will appear again.

Cry me a fucking river. So the show isn't like you want it to be. It won't be affected with 3 or 4 less viewers.

    She'll be back.

It will be interesting how the rest of the group takes this new development.
Wasn't the whole point of creating "the council" to make the more wise, informed, best decisions for the group, wasn't Carol part of the council?

I would not feel comfortable trusting Rick now.

I would not trust him either....I hate the man now. He used the same reasoning to justify his own actions and I bought it....I sympathized with him...and now he is going to turn into a sanctimonious coward and send Carol potentially to her own death for probably protecting HIS children when he was too weak to do it himself?

I hope when he tells the others about what he did someone will see him for the fraud he is. Shane saw it. They should have thanked her for at least trying to do something about it and for trying to teach the kids how to protect themselves. The reason so many of them died in the first place was their refusal to understand what was happening around them...she did a great job whereas he is still struggling.

The only good thing for me was when she left she kept her dignity and showed her real strength which was 100 x more than his ever was. He is weak...and foolish...and he has failed.
