The Chicago band, Maps & Atlases, have announced their sophomore effort entitled, Beware and Be Careful, and a release date for April 16th in the UK and a day later on the 17th in the US. Below is an intriguing little video for the announcement which right at the end features some new music being played at what looks like a school disco!?

Simian Mobile Disco are set to return with their latest LP, “Unpatterns,” on May 14th. For now, we have to content ourselves with an album teaser, which features lead single “Seraphim” and video of an installation by Kate Moross of ISO tudios.

SMD have always stretched genre with their brand of electronic music, but apparently “Unpatterns” will take this to the next level. Indeed, if “Seraphim” is any indication, the new LP will not function as the remora fish of current electronic music trends.

The duo have also announced additional international DJ dates in support of “Unpatterns,” with stops at New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge, several Winter Music Conference shows in March, and other North American dates in May and June.

Mute are pleased to announce the release of CARTER TUTTI VOID's Transverse, a unique collaboration from Chris Carter & Cosey Fanni Tutti (Throbbing Gristle) and Nik Void (Factory Floor), out on vinyl, CD and download on 26 March 2012.

Transverse is a unique collaboration, created especially for the legendary Short Circuit presents Mute festival at the Roundhouse, London in 2011.

The tracks were prepared in the studio and then performed and recorded live in front of an audience. Outside of the trio, these recordings were unheard prior to the festival and the popularity of the performance left many being turned away at the door.

Mute is proud to make this ground breaking recording available and to be working again with two of electronic music's true pioneers and one of its new trail blazers.

Said The Quietus of the performance: "…a warm embrace, creating a deep connection… Carter at the back manipulates the electronics while on either flank, Void scratches noise with bowed guitar and Tutti plays while singing vocals that she mangles and distorts… there is no nihilism in this noise, nothing but a deep and wonderful sense of love."

    V2 (10:05)
    V3 (09:06)

I don't know if this has been posted but Fiona Apple is slated to release a new album this June. and in tradition to her quirkiness, she will have another super long album title, it will be titled, "The Idler Wheel is wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords will serve you more than Ropes will ever do"

Patti Smith to Release Her First LP in Eight Years in June

Album will include tunes written for Amy Winehouse, Johnny Depp

Patti Smith has just announced details of her 11th studio album, her first collection of original material since 2004's trampin'. Banga will be out on June 5th through Columbia Records. The first single from the album, "April Fool," featuring Television's Tom Verlaine, was released today on iTunes.

Smith recorded Banga at Electric Lady Studios in New York City. In a statement, the singer-songwriter says the new album was inspired by her dreams as well as her observations of an increasingly complex and chaotic world:

"There is an exploratory spirit in the songs that make up Banga, including a melodic overture imagining the voyage of Amerigo Vespucci to the New World in 1497 ('Amerigo'), a rock song for the people of Japan in the wake of last years earthquake ('Fuji-san'), a classic ballad in memory of Amy Winehouse ('This Is the Girl'), an improvised meditation on art and nature ('Constantine's Dream') as well as a birthday song written for her friend Johnny Depp ('Nine')."

The album was recorded with Smith's regular collaborators, Tony Shanahan, Jay Dee Daugherty and Lenny Kaye; featured guests include Tom Verlaine, Jack Petruzzelli and Smith's own children, Jackson and Jesse Paris.

Smith will be joining CBS correspondent Anthony Mason for a live, in-studio conversation at noon. Watch the live stream of the interview here:

Moritz Von Oswald Trio will return in June with an album for Honest Jon's entitled Fetch.

The album is Moritz von Oswald, Sasu Ripatti (AKA Vladislav Delay) and Max Loderbauer's third studio outing, and is described in a press release as showcasing a "darker and more driving mood" than previous work. The album was recorded in the late summer of last year and features live contributions from Marc Muellbauer (bass) and Tobias Freund (effects). Instrumental overdubs, meanwhile, come courtesy of Jonas Schoen (flute, bass clarinet, saxophone) and trumpeter Sebastian Studnitzky.

The basic recording sessions for the album apparently only lasted four hours, pointing towards yet another live and fluid set of tracks that values improvisation over careful deliberation. Nonetheless, von Oswald is keen to stress that each cut is a separate entity—something made obvious by the non-uniformity of the track titles. (Previous albums featured similar titles like "Pattern 1," "Pattern 2," etc.)

    Tracklist
    01. Jam
    02. Dark
    03. Club
    04. Yangissa

Fetch will see release on June 18 via Honest Jon's Records.

Lo-fi pop experimentalist John Maus has announced a new collection of demos and previously unreleased material, aptly titled A Collection of Rarities and Previously Unreleased Material. The record will be released via Ribbon Music on July 17 in North America and elsewhere on July 16.

These sixteen recordings span 1999-2010 and have been remixed and remastered for the release. Many are culled from Demos 2011, digitally distributed via Maus' website. Five of the tracks have appeared on previous compilations, including "No Title (Molly)", from the Domino/Ribbon zine/flexi release for Record Store Day, Smugglers Way. The tracks "Angel of the Night" and "Lost" are previously unreleased.

This is Maus' first release since his excellent 2011 full-length We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves. The collection will be available digitally as well as on CD, with a limited edition of 3,000 vinyl copies available (including 500 on translucent pink vinyl).
Check out the tracklisting as well as Maus' upcoming summer dates.

Re: 2012 Most Anticipated Music Releases

"Techno producer Ital has a new record called Dream On coming out on 11/5 and today he let go of the video for single “Boi,” a visual collaboration with the artist Aurora Halal. It’s a jarring bit of spliced-up imagery which contrasts a little with Ital’s relatively more laid-back approach. Watch it below.

    Ital - "Boi"

Music written & produced by Daniel Martin-McCormick
Video produced by Aurora Halal and Daniel Martin McCormick
from the album 'Ital - Dream On' (Planet Mu 2012)
    http://www.planet.mu/discography/ziq327

    01 Despot
    02 Boi
    03 Eat Shit (Waterfalls Mix)
    04 Enrique
    05 Housecapella
    06 What A Mess
    07 Deep Cut (Live Edit)

With his second release for Planet Mu this year, 'Dream On' is more of a full-length outing for Ital aka Daniel Martin-McCormick and a much more substantial record than the popular and critically acclaimed 'Hive Mind'.

On 'Dream On' Ital takes his experimentation with house and techno forms even further, creating impressionistic deconstructions from the tropes of early house and techno. Sunny chords, laid back drum shuffle and rhythmic vocal loops are picked apart and threaded with a rich psychodrama of delirious textures, tidal chords and uneasy roughness and dissonance.

Having spent over 20 weeks on the road since the completion of 'Hive Mind', 'Dream On' reflects the raw energy of the live show and the touring mindset: the heady, dream-feel of house, cut with both dub's fracturing smear and an understanding of the power of distortion, honed from years working in DIY and noise.

'Despot' starts the album with a trancey bassline punctuated with off-key vocal stabs, the form of the track brutally prized apart with pitch-shifting seasick chords. It's the longest track and and a powerful opener. 'Boi's' mix of stuttering vocal loops, aqueous chords and frantic drums is tainted with sorrow and loss. It's got a nervous energy, always feeling like it's going to topple in on itself, lapsing from ravey propulsion into nauseated hiss and back again.

'Eat Shit (Waterfalls Mix)' is broken and distressed techno in miniature, making the most of distortion and echo to create shimmer and splinters of noise over rough, murky percussion.

The dark center of the album, 'Enrique', strips things back to a cavernous ambience with molasses-slow vocals and a heartbeat drum, building into pulsing tones and scratching noise pulled across the spectrum. Another miniature, 'Housecapella', is deep house smudged and deconstructed into weightlessness; it's over before it begins to drag you in.

'What a Mess' sounds like music rotting; running epic, wilting chords, soaring melodies and hysterical vocals through curdling effects. 'Deep Cut' finishes by rubbing warm, emotional deep house tones, shuffling drums and claps against harsh electric guitar-like drones. 'Dream On' takes you out of the ordinary and drops you into Ital's dislocated dance.
