To destroy a thing is to dispose of it as an absolute master and to act as one having full and independent dominion over it; but man does not possess this full and independent dominion over his life, since to be an owner one must be superior to his property.... Finally, for a sane man deliberately to take his own life, he must, as a general rule, first have annihilated in himself all that he possessed of spiritual life, since suicide is in absolute contradiction to everything that the Christian religion teaches us as to the end and object of life and, except in cases of insanity, is usually the natural termination of a life of disorder, weakness, and cowardice.

It's 4:20am right now, and I have to be up in 4 hours to go on a date. Whether I take a nap or stay up all night, I'll still be sleepy during the date, and I'm dreading that. Wish me luck.

it weirds the shit out of me seeing these masculine looking gay guys in porn, fucking each other in a masculine acting way but when you see them sitting down during their interviews, they're extremely flamboyant. it's like . i'm expecting them to act all masculine and their voices to be extremely husky but they're the total opposite. it's also weird that there aren't that many porn stars that act effeminate or flamboyant during their performance. sometimes, it's cute depending on the porn star BUT other times, it's a huge turn off because the porn star acts too oversubmissive. i perceive the oversubmissiveness as being completely fake.

There was once a woman I worked with who was a compulsive liar.

Well, I'm the type of person who very seldom gets overtly angry, but when I do, it's like somebody dropped a nuclear bomb. So once when I lost my temper with her, I shouted at her all the things I'd been bottling up for the two years prior.

Part of this was,"Everybody laughs at you behind your back because you lie so much. You're the laughing-stock of the crew."

She became so upset that she sobbed hysterically into a pillowcase. It was pitiful to see. It's been five years ago and I regret it bitterly.

Re: Confess something that might surprise others or damage your reputation on JUB - 2012

here's a confession... I excused myself from dinner tonight, went to the bathroom, and threw up just about my entire meal.

I'm not bulimic, though I probably could be easily enough because I've gotten really good at making myself puke. this is something I try hiding from my friends as best I can, but I've got a condition where my stomach produces less acid than a normal person. the practical effect is that I need to chew my food really well, to help my stomach break it down. if I don't, I get a really terrible feeling that can last for hours while my stomach breaks down the food unless I force the food out.

not really a problem when I'm on my own and don't mind spending an hour to eat a meal, but it's occasionally an issue when I'm out at restaurants and feel self conscious about eating slowly, so I try and speed it up (or if people make comments about how little I'm eating, as happened tonight)

the upside is that because of the low stomach acid, puking really isn't a terrible experience. doesn't feel much different than the food just coming back up (eg: no bitter/acidic taste in my mouth).

i'm doing one hell of a good job controlling my temper on the boards. it's difficult but i'm trying. when i see something that hits a wrong note with me, i just try to keep it moving even though i really want to say something to so and so. over time, i guess i'll become used to it where i can deflect whatever or disrespect someone's tossing my direction.

and i'm not even dissing anybody but yet some people are twisting around my statements as if they're made to be insults.

^I know how you feel, RJ.

On the Internet, all we see is words flashed on a screen. We don't see a smile, a twinkle in the eye, or, alternately, a sneer, so I think it's much harder for a man to restrain himself on an Internet forum than it is in real life. It makes it worse when people tell you,"Well, that's what the Internet's FOR--so you can be yourself."

So it's easy for a normally reticent man to unleash his demons online. I think everybody's underaware of the psychological damage he can do to others on an online forum...

Don't let 'em get you down, RJ. You are a very unique presence on this board.

    Fuji,

    You ARE doing very well.

Some of what your sensitivities strikes you as disrespect are only people
trying to bring you on board the fun and games and teasing.

Some people need time to accept that others have changed and/or are
'trying like a motherfucker' to do so. Truth is, you started on the proverbial
wrong foot and then shot yourself in it more than once.

You just keep working on the person you really are under those layers and
    them peeps will come around.

How come you aren't posting in the thread you made to blow shit off?

thanks, man. the web is a home away from home. like if things are really messed up or going horribly, here's where it's at. the world offline is crazy and then having issues on top of that with nowhere to turn to or people to talk to so there are very few options to go with. then to have people on the internet no trying to basically bring the same experience that you try to escape offline online. geez... it's messed up. it's like some people really want to see someone else go down just to go like "we told you so". terrible.

yeah, i agree. i was roaming around with the same mentality that i grew used to having. i did shoot myself in the foot starting off on the wrong foot. well, i'm learning my lesson even as much as it hurts. a lot of things i've fucked myself over with and i'm paying for it now. probably might pay for it forever but hey.... *shrugs*

as for other people getting it or not getting it, it really doesn't matter because at the end of the day, it still falls on me to take the higher road. it's that i used to fighting all the time and trying to get the last word. to walk away from something is like saying that "i lost" even though it's not that. it's not saying that they're wrong or i'm wrong or who's right. i guess i need to get used to enjoying life, being happy and not being angry, sad, anxiety ridden and whatever. too used to having bad days and being negative, angry at the world than actually being happy, smiling or whatever.

as for the venting thread, posted in it yesterday. haven't really been feeling angry recently. more of exhausted and anxiety ridden.

RJ, I see about three people who give you the most grief.

Each and every unique person on JUB has an enemy or two on this board. The great President FDRoosevelt said,"I ask you to judge me by the enemies I have made."

That being said, I think you might want to put one or two of them on ignore. It'll save you a lot of grief, and might even preserve your membership, because if you get nasty with them, then it'll be you who gets into trouble instead of them. I speak from experience.

The "ignore" feature is underused, in my opinion.

you know, honestly, i would do it BUT i honestly think that it's not necessary. i still need to work on myself especially with my self confidence and self esteem. if my confidence and self esteem was high enough, i wouldn't be so insecure and fragile where i can't even take a joke or sarcasm.

^I think you're being a little bit too hard on yourself, RJ.

Do you know or remember Margaret Thatcher? <scratches head> No, you're probably too young. She served as Prime Minister of the UK in the 80s.

Anyway, she was a very strong woman, so they called her "the Iron Lady". Once she said,"Words are corrosive. Even the most hardened of us is affected by them."

Everybody's sensitive, RJ. Some of us are more sensitive than others, of course.

I think you're blaming yourself too much.

Okay, Loquacious Lefty the big mouth full-of it-officer is stepping a moment.

Wipe the wouldn't & can't words from your lexicon.

Would, Could, Will and Try are to be added and used.

Fragile is for eggs, no one here can kick you in yours...ergo, no fragile here.
Insecure is for learning, everybody has that...some just do a better job hiding it.

There is a scroll on your computer that works even better than ignore and allows
you to be more selective rather than blanket ignoring. Sometimes and someplaces
anybody could have something important/interesting to say. Pick and choose,
scroll or delete as applicable.I still don't put people on ignore, not even the ones
    that did me.

This place is a school, classrooms, playgrounds, library, gymnasium and showers.
Use your faculties and their facilities.

LL is rapped out now... done...

^Southpaw, I don't agree about the "ignore" feature.

Sure, you can just scroll past the bad guys--but why would you want to?

I look at it like swatting a fly. Either you can be macho, keep wiping that fly out of your face, and tell yourself how tough you are....or you can get out your flyswat ( put on "ignore").

Anime are usually cartoon adaptations of manga... the latter coming in a variety of themes, length, formats, targeted audience... the successful/popular ones are usually made into anime.
Some have one episode long story line, some have story lines stretching on several episodes or (a) whole season(s).
There are also anime that are adapted from successful video games, or others that are directly made as TV shows or full length movies for theaters...
Basically I'd say anime are equivalent to US TV series except they're drawn... also the greatest number of them are made for younger audiences but some are meant to adults..

    ie : EBICHU !!!!

I don't agree with the ignore button either.

Real life doesn't have one, and if you can't hack hearing something you don't like here, you'll never be able to take it in real life.

IMO- if someone says something you don't like to hear, chances are pretty good they're probably right.

Even if you don't like to hear it, more then likely you can still learn something from it.

You can't put yourself out there and not expect back some kind of criticisms.

If you don't want to hear it, don't put it out there to talk about.

I think the ignore feature is perfectly fine, if you're using it because you don't like opposing opinions or criticisms on the stuff you put on here then you're using it for the wrong reasons. I've used it and still do for people who constantly post with trollish behavior or people who have a tendency to say completely ignorant things in threads constantly.

I've taken people off of ignore on here only to be reaffirmed as to why I person on ignore in the first place.

i'm not down with that sort of principle at all. how am i supposed to know how someone is going to react to anything that i post? i understand if it's something that is clearly offensive or will be taken the wrong way but i've seen people in here get offended and upset over simple petty things. there's been a few times where people have caught feelings over things that i've said that i thought weren't a big deal to get riled up over. i don't think i should be getting super paranoid over what i post because i don't know how people WILL react. i've actually been offended and annoyed at other people have posted on the boards not even pertaining to me but i certain didn't wild out over it. i simply kept it moving which is why i get annoyed when i see the same persons telling me i can't say this, i can't say that WHEN i pretty much have to tolerate whatever they say even if i don't like it.

some people can dish it but CAN'T take it. if you're going to criticize or ready to trash someone over something, please be ready to take it when it's YOUR turn. i also think it's funny when someone is intolerant of whatever someone else does and then expects the same person to be tolerant towards them. you want people to move according to a certain way YOU want them to but yet you're unwilling to do the same thing for them when they're not liking how you operate. sometimes, the person is clearly in the wrong too BUT they're not willing to see it through how the next person sees it.

you have people actually taking SLOPPYSECONDS seriously. when i saw that there were some people in here that were really catching feelings over SLOPPYSECONDS calling for him to be banned, i was like "are you serious?"

I agree with all of this.

Some people serve us very well as critics who can teach us, but...

...some people are mean and nasty 100% of the time.

    It's not a black-and-white issue.

That's just it... you never know what's going to set someone off.

I've been in the same boat, where, I've said stuff I thought was very profound, and not gotten any responses, and there's been times I've made some dip shit comment half joking and gotten a ton of responses both good and bad.

There have been times I didn't like what I heard back. There were times they were actually right. There have been times where I had to take a cold hard look at myself and realize I was wrong in my way of thinking - even if I wasn't always willing to change how I thought/felt.

There will be those who genuinely want to help, those that want to bait, and those who will be negative no matter what you do.

(I could fully understand why someone would want to ignore SloppySeconds though )

    ^Actually we agree, Borg. ^

Some of the time, you learn from an argument. The debate we had about the pictures is a good example because it was recent.
I would never put any of the people involved in that debate on "ignore".

But some people are mean and nasty 100% of the time. You can't learn from such a person, nor can they learn from you. Discourse of any kind is futile. I put people in these category on "ignore". The Spanish Conquistador and CowPatty were in this category until very recently.

BTW, SS is on ignore, too. Poor soul, I don't understand a word he says.
