I don't recommend NXT for casual wrestling fans as it's not very well produced and they almost NEVER have any of the big TV superstars on... but if you're a more hardcore fanboy like myself, there's a lot to enjoy. Matt Striker and Josh Matthews make a fun commentary team and the pairing and rise of Tyler Reks and Curt Hawkins as "The Mid Card Mafia" has been a personal highlight for me... And as I mentioned, there's the love triangle of Derrick Bateman / Maxine / Johnny Curtis, all of whom are portrayed as being completely crazy.

Derrick and Maxine have been a bit of a power couple on the show. They fell in love earlier in the season and Derrick proposed to Maxine in the middle of the ring. They've even earned the couple nickname "Beta-max." But they are ALWAYS sparring with each other, with Maxine complaining that Derrick doesn't focus on her enough and Derrick paranoid that she's cheating on him. Now add Johnny Curtis to the mix... Maxine went on one date with Johnny over a year ago, but he has continued to pursue her and had tried to drive a wedge between Maxine and Derrick... The homoerotic part comes in because it honestly seems like Derrick and Johnny are more interested in each other than Maxine, because while they both pursue her, they spend most of their time sneaking up behind each other, whispering into each others ear. At one point, Johnny was rubbing Derrick's shoulders and telling him that he wasn't a real man and Maxine deserved a guy like Johnny. And they are always talking to each other THIS.CLOSE to one another, seemingly moments away from making out.

The writing is terribly clunky and most of the storyline turns are barely earned, plus none of them are particularly good actors... Most scenes end with someone screaming at something off camera, hitting whatever prop is around them or with one of the guys listening into a conversation from around a corner... But it's fairly entertaining stuff if you're in the mood and the WWE posts each episode up on YouTube on Wednesday/Thursday every week.
